Potential but with Bugs

  • 2 of 5

The place has potential, but needs to be cleaned, updated, and better maintained. There are bugs, spider webs, stains, dust, film on windows, and trash around the outside of the cabin. The trash issues were not addressed by the manager. The problem is that bears, raccoons, and other animals get into the trash cans each night. The manager just said, "Keep the tops on the cans," but the animals just knock the cans over and remove the tops. Each morning I had to clean up trash from the previous night. Several of the television sets need upgrading, and there is no WiFi. Several of the outdoor rocking chairs are falling apart. There are also exposed nails around the balcony/porches.

It's too bad, really, because it's a large, roomy cabin/house with nice amenities, such as a pool table, hot tub, and great views. I would not rent it again, however, unless I was guaranteed a cleaner, updated, and better maintained cabin.

Could have been much better.

  • 3 of 5

As stated in at least 1 other review, the directions to the cabin could have been much clearer. We planned to cook steaks on the grill the 1st night, but discovered the 2 huge gas tanks empty, and they could not be filled for 2 days since the next day was Sun. Not nearly enough towels and washcloths for 8 people and no blankets. The house and view are beautiful, but the furnishings and decor quite shabby. The pool table has been broken and was uneven and the felt in bad shape. Only one pool cue was in good enough shape to use. Worst of all, each of the whirlpool tubs shot out gunk when jets were on, and one of the downstairs tubs had water standing in it for much of the time we were there. One more thing...if you're planning on cooking much, the frying pans and baking sheets were either tiny and/or in horrible shape. Could be perfect with a little maintenance.

Never got to stay the 3 nights we planned to stay.

After receiving full payment for the rental, the rental company send us turn by turn directions. What they failed to tell us was not only were there gravel roads but the gravel roads included hair pin turns up extremely steep graded hills full of ruts. Took 3 attempts to get up the first gravel hill after sliding down. There was no mention of the difficulty to get to the cabin off the main road and the directions were honestly sketchy and did not disclose everything. We were scared to death by the time we finally reached the home. Also need to mention that the roads are all ONE WAY. You meet a car, one of you is backing up and there is NOTHING to prevent you from falling off the mountain if you don't judge something correctly. I called the company immediately and was told I needed to talk to the manager who would return to the office at 4:00. The outside of the home had been painted or stained that day. All the surfaces were tacky and there was overspray everywhere. The fumes in the cabin were unbearable because of it. I called the manager for 45 min and I kept being told he had not returned yet. The last call I made I told them we were on our way to their convenient....he just happened to walk in at that moment. Scott was so rude and full of himself and REFUSED to let me speak. Never once during our conversation did he hear ANYTHING I had to say, even after telling him to shut up an listen to me at which time he also cut me off and talked over me as he do for the entire conversation. He deserves to be fired!! My parents refused to attempt the drive and stayed in a hotel. The kids played I the hot tub for awhile and came in to get ready for bed. At which time we started finding scorpions on multiple levels of the home inside. We killed about 5 and found others already dead. The carpets had not been swept and the wood floors not dusted. One our kids went to bed, we found a scorpion in one of their beds. We were done!! In 20 min we packed the cars and left at 10:30 at night down the side of the mountain in the pitch black. We rented hotel rooms for our stay and never returned to the cabin. We never bothered to call the office again. They refused to listen to our complaints the first time so there is not way there were going to listen to anything else we had to say. I am asking the actual owners of this property to contact me directly. Your property is being misrepresented and mismanaged. I certain you are not aware

Amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at above and beyond and couldn't be happier. The house is sitting on top of the mountain so while the drive to the house can be nerve wracking the first few times, you get some of the most amazing views of the surrounding mountains and the valley below. It really is secluded and serene, exactly what we were looking for. The elevator was nice to have for my mother in law, and the kids loved playing in the game room and hot tub. We had a few issues in the beginning, but once we informed the rental company they took care of them as soon as they could and checked back to make sure everything was in working order. We can't wait to get back to above and beyond for our next mountain get away!

Nice Cabin...But Dirty

  • 3 of 5

The whole concept of this cabin is wonderful. We liked the layout, the internet, the locations, the view, etc. Our long weekend stay in this cabin was a gift to my parent-in-laws from our family & my brother-in-law's family. My father-in-law is unable to use stairs, so the elevator was one of the BEST amenities. The initial appearance of the cabin was nice. Once we were settled in & began our first evening there, we started noticing multiple problems. The dust on all the decor in the living is at least 1/4 inch thick. It's also really bad on the light fixtures on the 2nd level. There were many broken decorations inside & out. You're greeted at the front door before you enter by a broken bear statue. You'll then continue to find broken things. The dishwasher door will close, but it is crooked, so you must pick up on it & push it to the left. Also, several of the bedrooms appeared to have dirty sheets still on the bed. (hair & stains on pillowcases/sheets) The biggest dissapointment of all would have to be ALL of the "jet bath tubs". Our kids were so excited to play in the tub(since we don't have one that big at home). We ran the first bath & as soon as the jets were turned on, the water was filled with pieces of mildew. We moved the kids to another bathroom to try again, with the same outcome. They ended up taking a shower the first night. We ran the tubs again the next morning, with the same result. We called the offce and were told that we were "seeing hard water & to run a pack of the dishwasher detergent for 15 mins through the tub & jets & it should go away." We did that, then emptied the tub & ran fresh water, with yet again the same result of water filled with pieces of mildew. (Hard water causes white spots on places it dries, not black pieces in pipes) We then filled all the other tubs in the house & each one filled with mildew. Our kids NEVER got to enjoy that part of the cabin. It is sad we paid that much money just to have a lot of dust & dirty tubs & sheets! We did not want to make a big stink while we were all together at the cabin b/c we didn't want to ruin the trip for my in-laws. Once we checked out we called the office back on our drive home. We told Jeannie all the issues & all we were told was"I am so sorry that happened." We won't be using this cabin again or Aardvark Rentals. I hope the owner of this cabin reads this & changes cleaning crew. Bleach run through each tub after each stay is also a good idea!
