ABOUT CAYMAN BRAC:
From brilliant reefs in pristine waters to exotic birds nesting on jagged cliffs, Cayman Brac is home to a wealth of stunning natural wonders. The island’s unique geological features and abundant animal life make it an ideal destination for a variety of outdoor activities including scuba diving, snorkeling, rock climbing, hiking, bicycling, caving, and bird-watching.
DIVING Cayman Brac offers some of the most remarkable diving in the Caribbean. With over 50 major sites, divers at all levels are spoiled for choice. The reefs offer radiant coral, sea fans, and sponges in bright shades of red, orange, yellow, green, and purple. At varying sites, divers often encounter turtles, rays, sharptail eels, angelfish, puffer fish, parrot fish and countless other aquatic species. Divers can also explore the upper decks of a 330-foot freighter that was deliberately sunk and made safe for diving. The ship’s features include a missile launcher, deck cannons, living quarters and more.
HIKING With diverse terrain, unique flora and fauna, and gorgeous views, Cayman Brac’s hiking trails are ideal for an adventurous traveler. All of the trails are easily accessible, with signage visible from the roadside. The two-mile nature trail through Saltwater Pond Reserve covers 38 species of trees and a variety of birds including the near-threatened Brac parrot and vitelline warbler. Or for a challenge, hikers can follow rocky trails up the bluff to reach stunning views.
CLIMBING Cayman Brac boasts some of the world’s most exotic climbing. The island derives its name from the beautiful bluff on the eastern end of the island (Brac means bluff in Gaelic). The limestone cliffs reach up to 43 meters (140 feet), offering unparalleled views. There are over 70 bolted routs on the island, from beginner to advanced, and the number continues to grow.
CAVING The abundant caves on Cayman Brac are home to amazing formations and unique flora and fauna. A number of the caves have historical significance, as they have been used as shelter during the rare severe hurricanes that have come to the island. Popular caves include Peter’s Cave, which offers a spectacular view of the south side of the island and the ocean beyond; the Bat’s Cave, which houses a number of bats as well as owls; and the Great Cave, which offers beautiful formations and large open rooms.
BIRDS A number of striking exotic birds have been observed on Cayman Brac, including the white-tailed tropic bird, the Brac parrot, tricolored herons, the magnificent frigate bird, and spoonbills. Some have formed permanent colonies; others stop by for breeding or on their way to warmer climates. Brown booby colonies can be observed on the lighthouse footpath all year round, but springtime is best for sightings of their fluffy white chicks.
Note to renters: to get the most out of your holiday you will want a rental car in the Brac.

We live part time on the island in our home on the Bluff and in northern california.
The Owner purchased this house in 2011
Pristine waters, nice community very peaceful.
Very private, great location. Love the views.
and a wonderful location. It is right on the ocean and has good snorkeling and diving right out from the house. The accommodations worked really well and we had all the conveniences of home. And we got to meet the owners, Jane & Glen. They are a very friendly couple and made our stay even more special. We will definitely be back!
We really had a good time in the Brac and the diving was outstanding. And the house was so well equipped for our diving gear with such ease to rinse it off and dry. Great place and, again, wonderful location.
We will be back! And hopefully, sooner rather than later.
We had a wonderful time during our stay at Hammock Moon! The house had everything we needed - beds, beach towels, kitchen, lounge chairs, hammocks - to serve as a perfect home during our adventure on Cayman Brac. Jane and Glenn were super kind and helpful. They met us at the airport, took us to the grocery and liquor store, and guiding us to the house when we arrived. They also provided a wonderful guide book in the house that provided detailed information about great spots to dive, snorkel, hike, and explore caves! The second story deck provides a wonderful viewing point for breathtaking sunsets and would be a great place for stargazing if the moon is not full! There is also a large and diverse DVD collection to enjoy after the sun goes down while the sound of the ocean lulls you to sleep. If you're looking for a place to enjoy some sun and adventure and escape the bustle of tourists - you will not be disappointed in Hammock Moon!
This house is great for divers as it has a rinse tank for your gear and a line to hang things as well as an outdoor shower. The shoreline is ironstone - very rough and sharp - so it is a shame it is too rocky to swim in front of the house although my husband did manage to get some snorkeling in.
The house could do with repaired lighting in the kitchen and some tupperware for microwaving. We stayed for two weeks and had to wash our sheets and towels as there were no extras; the housekeeper had locked them up!! We also had to buy toilet paper and BBQ utensils as there were none for the BBQ. The back bed mattress could do with changing as there was a spring that was uncomfortable. We also had a problem with calling out with the info that was left with the house book - for local calls just the last seven digits must be used; this needs to be changed in the book as we had to go to the neighbors to use their phone.
We left a list of suggestions for the owners.
Other than the above the house was private and provided a relaxing holiday.
I could not think of one thing that wasn't available in this beautiful home. I enjoyed waking up to a straight on view of the ocean. The upper deck was another world at night with pitch black skies covered with stars. I arrived on a full moon and left on a hammock moon. Perfect. Location made for easy short trips to each end of the island and a crossover road close by for exploring the bluff ridge and the south side. Great owners with helpful information all through my stay. I am spoiled now!
Although a bit unlucky with the weather (we couldnt go snorkeling), everything else about the house was great. The location, views and facilities were fantastic. Jane the owner was especially helpful and the only regret we had was the fact that we had to leave. Wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be coming back!
This house has amazing views! This is the perfect house to just relax at. Open living room, kitchen , and dining room make for a great area to hang out in to escape the heat, or enjoy the ocean view while cooking, drinking, and dining. The house deck is the perfect spot to watch sunsets. If you want a quiet getaway where you only hear ocean then this is the place. Only a short drive to grocery store and a liquor store. The owner is friendly and very helpful.
Hammock Moon is the most lovely, comfortable, well-appointed place for a get-away. Between the roof deck and the outside seating downstairs, the views are just spectacular - day and night. I was mostly impressed by how well stocked up this place was with every whim I could have had - the kitchen has everything you could need and more, and the bedding, towels, etc. were lush and perfect. It's easy to feel right at home here, and it is a beautiful, extremely clean, neat, lovely and well-maintained home. I will definitely be looking to come back again soon. You can't have a better view, being directly on the water, and the house itself is so welcoming and nicer than staying in a hotel. I had a wonderful visit and can't wait to go back - would definitely stay in Hammock Moon again every chance I get!
