Loved staying here! The apartment is fully refurbished in a neat older building with a beautiful lobby. Check in was easy and security helpful when we had issues with our keys. Found the property to be spacious and comfortable and in a super location only one block from Millennium Park. We did have several issues with our keys not functioning but never had a problem getting them replaced or resolved. Beds and furniture very comfortable and unit was clean. Well furnished although closet door was off the hook and bathroom carpets would be a nice addition. Overall terrific unit in prime location near everything and would definitely stay here again!
Great location as described- walk everywhere: 5 min walk to the Bean, 10 min to Grant Park, 5 min to Red line (subway/train), 15 min to Mag Mile. Close to a Target/Walgreens (5 min walk) to pick up groceries etc. A variety of restaurants not too far away (within 5-10 min you could find a McDonalds as well as Asian, Mexican etc). In room air conditioning worked, water was hot for showers, beds were decent, tv worked, security at front always present and actually helped get us back into room when we locked our room key in the room one day.
Only 4 stars as our room (1806) and the building did have a couple of issues:
* Wall outlet in one bedroom no cover plate & not screwed into box and was "live"- would be a concern if we had little kids
* 3 pans but no pots, but really did not take away from what we were cooking in the room
* No ice cube tray- again not a big deal we just picked up a bag at Walgreens
* Trash room looked like it had not been emptied at all during our stay- no big deal for us as there was no smells
Overall the condo served its purpose as a fairly central place to call home for the week. A good "middle of the road" place at a decent price...
One last thing, we felt VERY safe walking around the loop at all times of the day... don't let the bad rap the windy city has deter you from visiting this amazing city!!
-Very safe with 24-hour security at the door
-Gorgeous old building, very well preserved
-On-site property staff was very helpful getting us settled when we came in
-Much quieter than I'd expected. There was heavy construction on the nearby El station all night one night during our stay, and beyond a slight dull hum, we really didn't hear anything. Certainly didn't disturb us, and we're not used to downtown city noise.
-Beds are very comfy. Extra blankets were also provided.
-Cannot beat the location. Easy walk to El station, Millennium Park, Art Institute, etc.
-Online description was very accurate.
-Wi-Fi worked well.
The not so good. As much as we liked it, there were some issues that kept us from giving the property more stars. It could all be easily fixed, though.
-Main concern is that it looks like there's not a working smoke detector, at least in the apartment where we stayed. There's one in the living area that has bare wires coming out of it. However, it looks like the entire building is fitted with a fire alarm and sprinkler system, so maybe that takes the place of the smoke detector?
-The apartment could use some minor maintenance. There was a hole about 2 inches in diameter in the living area wall and there was some damage to the door to the smaller bedroom. It didn't bother us, but we wanted to make sure we weren't charged for it, so we let the owner know and haven't had any problems. We also had issues getting the front door to close properly. It looks like it just needs to be straitened up so the lock better aligns with the strike plate, but we had to futz with it a good bit to get it to close properly.
The positives definitely outweighed our concerns, and we'd stay there again in a heartbeat. We'd highly recommend to friends and family.
We came for a long girls' weekend. Had a great time. This is a great old building. Doesn't look like too much from the outside, but inside is so nice. Beautiful old wood, mouldings, ironwork, etc.
We had a room right across from the elevators, but still heard absolutely no noise from the inside of the building. The outside of the building is another matter...trains, horns, and sirens all night. But I think that would be true anywhere downtown. And speaking of location...it was great. Right between State St and Michigan Ave. Within a few steps of Millenium Park. Great location. Walked everywhere except for Shedd's Aquarium....we took the bus.
Condo was clean and pretty. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and hair dryer provided. They even let us get into our room a few hours early even though all the condo literature said no way.
I would definitely stay here again.
We were a little taken back by the initial sight of the building, but was quickly relieved once we got into the condo. Nicely decorated room with all the basic necessities. The location couldn't be more perfect for getting around the downrown area and is within walking distance to shopping and great food locations. The door / security people very, very helpful and friendly. Our condo needed more light bulbs and there was a closet door that was off the track, but it did not distract us as much as it would if we owned it. Overall a great place to stay and I would stay there again.
Ideal location inside the Loop near the big park and other exciting downtown destinations, easy public transportation everywhere.
Appartment is basically equipped, WiFi is not reliable and sloppy (get a better one beside elevators!), bring your own can openner.
