About the property

A cosy and authentic base to explore all that the famous Perigord has to offer!

If you’re looking for a cosy and authentic property as a comfortable base to explore all that the famous Perigord Noir has to offer, then our house is the one for you!

Situated in the historic centre of the quaint market town of Le Bugue, the stone-built cottage is easy walking distance to restaurants, cafes and shops, and only a short drive away from all the famous attractions (caves, castles, gardens and the most picturesque of towns, such as Limeuil, Les Eyzies and Sarlat). Having grown up in the Dordogne, I am eager to share what I believe to be the best places to visit, and to eat out, and will provide you with extensive information upon your arrival.

The property has recently been renovated and offers all the modern comforts whilst retaining the essence of a typical Perigourdine town house.

For those of you who enjoy cooking, the hand-made kitchen covers the whole of the ground floor, and is equipped with a large range-cooker , a dishwasher and good quality utensils. Le Bugue’s market on Tuesday and Saturday is only a few steps away and great for local produce.

The first floor’s living room is perfect for relaxing after a day out exploring, and has a comfortable sofa, television and free wifi. The bathroom, also situated on the first floor, has been completely refurbished and includes a bath, shower and heated towel rail.

The second floor’s romantic bedroom has a king-sized bed and plenty of storage space. The bedroom is private and not overlooked.

The house is south facing and enjoys the sun all day long.

The Vezere river is just down the road, with beautiful views of the village and quiet places to sit. The stunning Dordogne river is a lovely 10 minute drive away and a great place to swim and spend a day on the beach.

Ideal for a couple - Free parking – 30 minutes drive from Bergerac airport

A fabulous French home

We had a wonderful stay in Le Bugue with Rosie. The house was beautifully renovated, with everything we needed. Rosie was a welcoming and gracious host, with brilliant local recommendations. An excellent home in a great location for exploring the Dordogne.

This is a large well-equipped charming place within walking distance of anywhere you would want to go in Le Bugue. Rosie was very helpful and responsive to our questions. She also left a handy guide to favorite activities and restaurants. A perfect home base from which to explore the region.

Cute and homely, snug town property

  • 5 of 5

The property was very nice, clean and well appointed. Obviously quite recently refurbished to a lovely standard. The owner had left a guide to the area that was very helpful, making it a no-fuss get away week's break. There is plenty to do in and around Le Bugue and we'd recommend the property and the region to everyone.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Well-equipped kitchen, easy parking, town centrally located for cave visits. Grace provides a book of resources about Le Bugue and activities nearby. Market passes in front of the house on Tuesdays but is so quiet we thought it had been cancelled! Fantastic bakeries and beautiful river view 2 minute walk from the front door.

Could not have asked for anything better.

Le Bugue market on Tuesdays and Saturdays is a great place for local produce and souvenirs. The town also has big supermarkets (Intermarche, LIDL, Aldi, Leaderprice, Farmshop).

There are five bakeries in town, all walking distance. Our favourite is Cauet tucked behind the main square.

Aside from our town, the house is situated in the Perigord Noir within easy reach of the famous caves and paleolithic history of Les Eyzies (15 minutes), Sarlat (35 minutes) with its medieval streets and famous market, and Bergerac (50 minutes), famous for foie gras, wines and ancient architecture. Périgueux (40 minutes) has fabulous shopping, while St Emilion (1h30) offers the perfect excursion to a quintessential Bordeaux wine-country town.

This region is rich in historic sites including the Lascaux Caves, and the fascinating Bastide towns such as Beaumont, Moliéres, and Monpazier which run along the spectacular Dordogne river. Travel by car or by flat-bottomed 'gabarres' (river boats) to see the many magnificent châteaux to be found within easy reach of our cottage. Local, traditional markets abound and your days will be spent trying the freshest produce including the best selection of the classic food of the Perigord: foie gras, duck confit, walnuts, goat cheese, truffles and wine.

We will leave an information pack of all of our favourite restaurants and sites in the house. There's plenty to discover!
