English Basement apartment in an 1891 brownstone on East Capitol St. in the heart of the Capitol Hill historic district. The US Capitol, Supreme Court, the Library of Congress and National Mall are just a short walk from this completely renovated one bedroom apartment.

There are dozens of restaurants, cafes and bars within a few minutes walk. It is 3.5 blocks from historic Eastern Market.

Capitol Bike Share is located a block away at Lincoln Park.

Completely furnished and outfitted with all new kitchen pots, pans, silverware, dishes, linens, towels, hair dryer. Everything you would need for a visit to DC.

The living room has a 42' TV with DirecTV and the sofa opens to a bed for guests. The kitchen has an electric ceramic top range, microwave, garbage disposal, dishwasher, full size refrigerator. The dining area has seating for 6 and an additional breakfast bar with 2 stools. The bedroom, with a queen bed has a 27' TV and french doors that open to a brick patio area. The apartment has 15 to 20 feet of closets! At the end of the hall of closets is a full size washer and dryer. The bath has a tub/shower combination. The apartment has its own central ac/heat. WIFI is included.

Good location, clean and bright

Great location for us as we use the Metro exclusively in DC. Short walk to Eastern Market (station and the market, bakery in the market has excellent desserts) and a nice park ½ block away. Surprisingly bright for a basement apartment. "Real" grocery store is a bit of a hike, but Safeway will deliver and sometimes has coupons for free first delivery. Tenant above was up and walking around above the bedroom about 07:30 daily but quiet evenings. Well equipped kitchen (we cook in breakfast and most dinners). WiFi was solid, never a drop. Recommend for a couple, the only bath is accessed via the bedroom.

Nice rental convenient to many attractions

Place was clean and had plenty of towels and bedding for my husband , me and my teenage son (who slept on the sleeper sofa). Beds were comfortable. Nice to have a tea kettle to make morning tea. Washer and dryer was very nice to have since we were there for a week, which meant we could pack lighter.

Eastern market area was a great area for dining options and the Metro, about 5 blocks away. The $1 circulator bus frequently goes through and can drop you off along the national mall. The circulator bus was also very easy to take to a Nationals game.

Two City bike share docks were only 2 blocks away. If we were out the door by 9am, the three of us could get bikes easily. Highly recommend the bike share system. Bikes become very scarce by the monuments during the evening (tour the monuments when lit up). We use the bikes to primarily get around, using the metro and the circulator busses as other options.

The only reason I don't give this property a 5 star is because the overhead neighbor (this rental is in the basement of a brownstone). The pictures were very accurate and gives you a feel for the rental. The bathroom was en suite with the bedroom, but I knew before hand because another review mentioned it. It was not a problem for us. However, the upstairs neighbors seemed to go out during the evening and then bring home many friends after 11pm. They would sing and walk and talk kind of loudly. 'This happened for maybe 4-5 of the 7nights we were there. they would wake us up, but I could fall asleep pretty easily after being startled by the upstairs neighbors. I think my son slept through it, my husband found it somewhat annoying. Nothing the owner can do, but be aware.

Great place to stay

This basement apartment is lovely. The furnishings are nice and homey. It is very clean. It is close to the Capital, in fact you can see it from the apartment. It is about 2 blocks from a bike share. The owner returned my emails promptly and answered all my questions. The only negative was that the apartment noise from above. It would awaken us in the middle of the night when the upstairs guests would get home. I highly recommend this apartment.

Can't wait to return! Comfort and convenience in Capitol Hill neighborhood

We stayed in Andrea’s lovely apartment for just over a week in March. Having a home base while we toured the area was our preference over a hotel; being in the Capitol Hill neighborhood kept us close to where we wanted to spend our time; and Andrea’s apartment fit our three-person family perfectly. No detail was overlooked — from kitchen equipment and comfy linens to convenient laundry machines and ample storage. A few specific mentions:

- Andrea’s housekeeper, Rosario, was easy to reach to arrange getting and returning keys.

- The location was walking distance to sights, tons of restaurants, Eastern Market, and other shops

- We felt very safe in the apartment.

- Both my husband and I needed to work during our vacation, and the wifi was consistently strong.

- We’d driven to DC, and street parking near the apartment was easy to find (and despite the signed 2- or 3-hour parking limit during the daytime, no one seemed to move their cars and no one was ticketed).

- Uber took us where we needed to go in the evenings

- We felt like we came "home" at the end of our long, fun days!

I could write more, but let's leave it at this: We’d very much like to stay in this apartment when we return to DC next time!

Perfect location. Comfortable, quiet, great neighborhood. Would definitely come back!

The apartment is exactly advertised as in the VRBO listing. Owner and housekeeper very accommodating to our needs. We love the location. Close to everything we wanted to do . We walked a lot, took Uber, and were able to visit all the places we wanted to visit. The neighborhood is safe, quiet, and quite lovely.
