Please note that your hosts are living on site (not in the same building as the guests) and will be using the kitchen facilities. You will find the place a welcoming and friendly environment over the summer period where we enjoy hosting guests and the odd woofer/helpexer or two.
But your privacy and comfort are always our first priority.
The Pascha Retreat is one of the original 100 acre blocks designated by the New Zealand Company in the middle of the XVIII century.
Known as Hawks Crag, named after a farm the original owners came from in Scotland, it was initially run as one of the many self sufficient early dairy farms that existed on the Peninsula.
The property is in an amazing location siting half way up the hill at the very end of the road with wonderful views and the most amazing plantation of trees including much regenerated natural bush. It has been run as a permaculture property for the past 20 years and now has beautiful gardens which you are welcome to walk around.
The original 1870s cottage has been fully renovated and is now dedicated to your relaxing and enjoyable stay.
There are beautiful walks from 10 to 45 mins up to to the summit with amazing views over the Little River Valley and a shorter walk which gives the most stunning lookout over Lake Forsyth and out to the Pacific ocean.
The Pascha Retreat Lodge has been created as a space that encourages relaxing and slowing down. We are developing the property and have another 4 bedrooms in the cabins almost completed which allow the Lodge to be rented as a complete retreat for your business, group, family or band.
Car is essential (free parking available)

Lovely quite place to stay very clean and comfortable
Beautiful location nice little hide away spot will definitely visit again.
Beautiful grounds, quiet and restful, feels like you're the only people for miles. But also very easy to get to from the town centre. Quite a big place for a couple, would recommend small group stays to make the most of facilities.
This was the first place we stayed in New Zealand and it was a warm and welcoming place! Friendly atmosphere where you can chat with the owners and the guests, and the animals! Beautiful view and very relaxing. Loved it.
Beautiful and quiet location set in a valley, the old residence is full of character with a comfortably large kitchen for cooking, simple bathroom and a comfy lounge with a romantic fireplace (which we happened to use on one sudden cold night). No pretentions or over the top frills here, just simple old fashioned charm. Good for walks around the property, close to little river and its cafe, and a nice drive to Akaroa. Make friends with the chickens or sit in the sun overlooking the valley
