About Jim and Leslie Michael
I grew up in So. Cal, and spent summers at the beach. I always wanted to own a home on the water. My wife is also a lover of the beach and Mexico. We have traveled to many of the country's beautiful locations, but wanted a place of our own. Building our beach house was one of the most rewarding experiences and we love to share the beauty of the area.
Jim and Leslie Michael purchased this House in 2004
Why Jim and Leslie Michael chose Villas California
Attending school at U of A introduced me to San Carlos/Guaymas area for the first time. I fell in love with the picturesque beauty of the mountains running into the sea, the coral color of the water, the long stretches of white sand, the quaint town, and the easy going people that are attracted to this type of environment. I wanted to own a piece of this paradise. In 1990 I had the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new 'proposed' development on the water, so I took the risk of buying something that was raw desert, from a local I didn't know, in a country with unknown real estate laws, but it sat at the oceans edge and I was interested in making the dream a reality!

Mi Casa es Su Casa
We recently spent a wonderful week at Casa Miguel. The Michael's have done a wonderful job at making this house feel like a home. The house was spacious, very clean, well equipped, and beautifully decorated. The air conditioning units worked perfectly. My kids really enjoyed all the cool reading nooks around the house. The location was a short drive from downtown San Carlos.
The back patio was spectacular, with amazing sunset and ocean views. We spent a lot of time out there reading, eating, exercising, and just taking in the waves. We were able to access the ocean to go kayaking from the back patio. The beach was a short walk from the house. I was able to go on a few early morning runs on the
Some things that can be improved are: the reliability of the wifi (it came and went while we
were there), the beds (they were a little harder than we are used to), and communication by the property manager (we thought he was meeting us upon arrival to give us a tour, but he didn't come until a while later).
Overall a great experience for our family, we made many great memories while staying there. Thanks you for sharing Casa Miguel with us.
Wonderful beach house
It's a wonderful beach house! The kitchen is very well equipped with all the items needed to cook and serve including condiments. The neighborhood was quiet and clean. A good location, far enough from the resorts to be quiet but easy access to town and the beach bars located just a mile up the road. We had a very nice time, absolutely no complaints.
Gary, We are so happy you enjoyed your stay at Casa Miguel and glad to hear the kitchen served you well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Leslie & Jim
This was a perfect place for a lovely vacation! The Michaels were also especially accommodating because we had a last minute addition to our travel plans, and so I was very pleased with their flexibility, for starters. The house is quite lovely, and the landscaping even more so. The outdoor spaces were enjoyed by all. The location, on Algodones Bay, was spectacular. Every day we watched pelicans diving and fishing, and often were entertained by a couple of sea lions. We enjoyed exploring the tide pools, and invigorating walks on the beach. The evenings were capped off by exquisite sunsets. Everything was as expected, and our minor complaint was immediately addressed. Our whole family fell in love with San Carlos, and loved our stay at Casa Miguel.
Casa Miguel was the perfect home base for all our San Carlos adventures. We were greeted on our first night with the most beautiful sunset, the first of many. What a well kept, beautiful home! We took advantage of all this home had to offer. Lounging about the different terrace levels, dipping our feet in the wading pool, grilling carne asada on the charcoal grill, swimming at the pool at San Carlos Plaza Hotel, kayaking and snorkeling right off the lower terrace and walking down to Algodones Beach to play in the sand. The large kitchen was perfect for family cooking. When we didn't want to cook, there were many restaurants serving everything from tacos, to cocos locos and also quite a few serving cuisine other than your typical Sonoran fare including wonderful Italian food, burgers and steaks and great seafood.
Our adventures included exploring the San Carlos area seeing beautiful overlooks and beaches everywhere. Guaymas is a very short, scenic drive away with all sorts of cool stuff, more restaurants, a pearl farm and shopping. We took a fantastic ATV tour, spending nearly 4 hours riding ATV's and a 6 seat off road vehicle seeing even more of the beautiful landscape and geology of the surrounding areas and fantastic ocean views that would have taken weeks to find on our own. To top the week off we spent a weekend scuba diving and snorkeling, what a fantastic diving spot!
The property owners and caretakers were great. The property was ready for us and open upon our arrival. The caretakers were responsive to all our needs. It's no wonder the property looks so nice as caretakers were by watering the plants and yard and taking care of everything several times throughout the week we were there.
I have to mention the comfortable beds. You never know when you rent a vacation home. We all were amazed at the comfort. We slept so well, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Air conditioners in every room allowed each of us to set the temperature to our individual comfort zone.
We will definitely recommend this property to family and friends and hope to return ourselves soon.
Thank you Jim and Leslie for helping to make this a most memorable vacation!

Hi Tara and Rolfe,
We can't thank you enough for all the kind words about our home and your stay in San Carlos. You wrote the best travel log I have read about San Carlos. Everyone should do all the extra curricular activities you and the kids enjoyed. That ride into the hills in the jeep is awesome. You get to see such a different perspective of the area. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and you will return. What a great compliment.

Cielito in San Carlos!
A heavenly experience to be sure! Jim and Leslie Michael were distinctly pleasurable absentee hosts to work with. Their concerns encompassed all of our would-be questions in advance and so, during our recent stay, we immediately enjoyed all of the feel-at-home comforts and conveniences of this gorgeous beach-front residence. The location, right on the awesome Bay of San Carlos, in a small, quiet, topscale, security-gated, residential community, focuses on magical sunsets and overlooks distant islands. Casa Miguel's beautifully kept and functional outdoor spaces, with the water a few feet away, provide a grill and plenty of seating and the dipping pool, liquid tranquility. The kitchen is wonderful with state-of-the-science appliances and professional quality utensils, pots and pans. The Michael's home has very spacious rooms, artfully decorated with the visual charms of Mexico. Altogether, a memorable, flawless vacation retreat! Thank you, Jim and Leslie.
Dear Peter and Francie,
Thank you so much for your kind words and your beautifully written review of our home. It was a pleasure having you both, and is wonderful when our guests appreciate staying in our home as much as we do. You touched on all the reasons we feel so lucky to be here on Algodones Bay.
Love to have you back.

Casa Miguel, San Carlos Mexico
The home we rented from Jim and Leslie Michael was, to say the least, breathtaking. The home was very comfortable and well equipped. Every morning was spent kayaking around the bay enjoying the pelicans, watching schools of fish and small stingrays. Afternoons laying around the terrace, snorkeling or dipping into the pool. Cocktails on the patio to watch amazing sunsets. We did make most of our meals at the home but when we did venture out , Sunset Grill was our choice. Daily walks along the beach takes about 1-1/2 hours depending on how many shells and beach glass you like to collect. At times we would have the whole beach to ourselves. If there were 6 people on the beach at one time, that was busy. We did take a sunset cruise with Haddie Annie . Endless Margarita's, touring throughout the different bays, history of San Carlos. We saw whales and had dolphins swim right in front of the boat. We could almost touch them. I would say that was a highlight of the trip. A visit to the pearl farm, perlas guaymas is a must. Second largest pearl farm next to Japan. Needless to say, few pesos dropped there! All in all, was a great vacation. Came back refreshed and tanned...win, win!
Lynn, So happy you were comfortable and enjoyed Casa Miguel and San Carlos...your days sound a lot like ours. Peaceful and relaxing are two of the best adjectives to describe time spent on the bay. Leslie and Jim
