Humble Cabin in Sequoia Park with crazy stars

Sleeps6
Bedrooms 1
Bathrooms1
Space 340 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

Overview

About the property

At the gate of wilderness, the cabin affords a nice view of Sequoia's hallmark Moro Rock, and is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, and small families with young children. Simple and convenient accommodations do not spoil the spirit of Nature, yet provide all the necessities for a comfortable and pleasant stay.

The cabin is located inside the park, just a couple minutes' drive from the South entrance. It is part of a small subdivision of about less than a dozen houses, mostly private vacation properties and family residences. The feel is more local than touristy; buildings are well spaced apart along the mountainside so as not to spoil the view. The cabin living/dining room windows offer stunning views of the surrounding mountain range.

The best swimming spot on Kaweah River is just a few minutes' walk away. A 30 minute drive brings you to the high mountain sierra Sequoia Grove. Crystal Cave and Mineral King are also within driving distance.

The cabin features a full kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, cooking utensils and dining ware, and an outdoor barbecue area with grill, garden dining table and chairs.

The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed. The upstairs loft can sleep up to three children or two adults. The living room futon transforms into a bed for extra sleeping space.

The living room and downstairs bedroom each have a flatscreen TV and DVD player. Currently, satellite TV is NOT available (however, please stay tuned... we are still working on improvements based on customer requests, and will post updates as they are made).

A discount of the cleaning fee is available to guests who bring their own sheets and towels. For details, and/or any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!

Rustic feel with just enough necessities.

  • 5 of 5

A great place to get away. Neighbors almost don't exist and the sunrise view can't be beat for the price. The bed was a little stiff but we weren't looking for luxury. A few board games where a great surprise! This had the classic family camping feel. The three rivers restaurants were also very charming. Couldn't be happier.

Bad. Mice!

  • 1 of 5

About as bad as it gets. We arrived with all our groceries to find a note that said there was a scheduled power outage. Thanks for the heads up! So, no fridge or A/C first night. We found mouse terds everywhere. We tried toughing it out but when a mouse ran across the bed while we were going to sleep we gave up, packed up and left. The only good thing about this place is the location within the park.

Tiny house experience with children!

  • 4 of 5

First off, the property manager and her daughter made this experience the best for us! Super helpful and friendly, little to no interaction with owner other than email correspondence.

Pros: tiny house living, very comfortable, excellent location, great affordability

Cons: (these mostly pertain to traveling with kids) very steep stairs, no doorknobs on most of the interior doors, a/c in living room is either very tired or needs a recharge.

Overall: incredible experience as far as the physical stay was, tough to keep our 18 month old from getting into the cleaning cup pads and pantry over and over since there was no doorknob. We actually enjoyed not being connected to wifi, it allowed us to disconnect and concentrate on our family and the vacation at hand. I did have to ask for and remind the owner about the cleaning fee refund I was owed due to a statement on their own advertisement. That was a little frustrating and I thought they could've been a little more honest about that part. But that is no reflection on the property manager and her daughter who were, as I already said, simply wonderful! Highly recommend this location!

Happy at the humble cabin

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the humble cabin. The location can not be beat--just inside the park where you don't have to deal with the gate traffic which over the Labor Day weekend was crazy (the wait to get in was about 40 minutes), but also minutes from Three Rivers. The cabin was easy to find and had everything we needed including a lovely view off the porch. Be aware that there is NO cell phone reception at all starting at Three Rivers and throughout the entire park (we have Verizon). They say there is WiFi at the Waksuchi Lodge but we couldn't get a signal. If there is an emergency you can quickly get to the gate and/or the Foothills Visitor Center to call 911 but be aware that nobody is able to get a hold of you. We did have a couple of minor annoyances during our stay: no dish soap--a container but it was empty, no extra trash bags--a box but it was empty, a large glob of something in the right hand kitchen sink, the loft looked like a bunch of kids had just partied in there leaving blankets and stuffed animals strewn everywhere, sheets on and for only one bed even though we had three people, and a dirty wash rag in the shower. We were not able to contact the cabin manager for assistance with these issues because there is no cell service. I took one star off for these oversights in housekeeping, but the cabin itself is great, we still had a wonderful stay, and would recommend this rental to our friends and family. I would recommend bringing a sleeping bag or your own sheets if you'll be needing more then one bed, and be aware that even with fans in the loft and AC down below it was extremely hot (it was over 100 degrees in the park when we went) so I'm not sure anybody could really sleep up there if it's super hot out. For the owner, it might be helpful if you could provide BBQ utensils as there were none, another cutting board as there is only one, and perhaps a map and some directions on how to get to the river as we only figured that out on our last day (there was so much traffic in the park it really made roadside stopping and exploring difficult). Thank you for letting us enjoy Sequoia from your humble cabin!
