About Jackie & Steve
After spending many wonderful summer vacations in the Steuben area, we were delighted when this cottage became available to buy! We've spent several months renovating and would now like to share our Maine home with you!
Jackie & Steve purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Jackie & Steve chose Steuben
Location! Situated on the Petit Manan peninsula, the cottage is part of a small and peaceful community of summer and year-round homes. We love the openness of the area as not many of these cottages are surrounded by forest (which tends to be more typical in northern Maine). This gives us the advantage of knowing our neighbors, and giving and receiving a wave and a smile!
What makes this Cottage unique
SO close to local hiking trails, and those a few miles south and north along the coast. It is a wonderful area with so many places to explore! The bay is perfect for kayaks, and mountain bikes are useful if we want to go on a dirt road to the shore. It is ALL about the rocky coast!

Adorable cottage with great views! All the comforts of home.
Thank you, Mary-- we're glad you had a good stay!
Had a great Maine getaway. Great accommodations. A bit of a remote location.
Glad you enjoyed your time down Maine, and thank you for the very nice review you left in our guest book!
Quaint cottage in a quiet Maine fishing/lobstering community
Our family stayed for 5 nights at the property (mid-July) and used the location to spend time hiking, visiting and exploring the surrounding area and Acadia National Park. The property was well-cared for and clean. It had a great kitchen and dining room for a family of 5, and space for us to read, watch TV and play board games when we had a bit of rain. We hiked trails in the areas that were easily accessible (a very short drive or 10 minute walk from the property), picked wild blueberries in the Wildlife Refuge, and ordered lobsters and fish from Dorr Lobster, just up the road one evening. A couple days we drove to Acadia National Park (Bar Harbor is about 50-60 minutes away) and spent time walking around Bar Harbor, whale watching, hiking and driving the park. It's a bit of a longer drive than I'd prefer, but the price for the property is very good and it removes you from all the congestion and touristy feel around Bar Harbor and the entrance to the island. This property gives you an authentic Maine experience, and it's wonderfully peaceful. Great neighbors as well. Thanks Jackie and Steve!
Thank you, Joel, for a wonderful review of our cottage, the area and Bar Harbour. We were happy to have you as our guests and hope your memories will want you to return for further exploration!
cute cottage near waterfront on quiet peninsula
The cottage was a very nice size for the two of us (although I did use a second room for my clothing and suitcase since the bedrooms are small.) The bed and couches were very comfortable, and the windows keep the cottage bright all day. We went down to Acadia National Park several times, and the drive is manageable, if not short. We also went north to Compobello, and found that drive very reasonable as well. Millbridge has some restaurants and a grocery store, and is very close. We also enjoyed walking around the wildlife refuge and up pigeon hill, both of which were easy walking distance. The kitchen has just about everything you could need for cooking (although there's no dishwasher.) There is also quite an impressive collection of DVDs to watch, some of them quite good. Finally, we did steam some lobsters bought from the man several doors down, and that was quite fun. All the neighbors were wonderful and friendly too!
We could scarcely have asked for anything better!
Thank you, Tim! A nice review not only of our cottage, but of the area attractions. This kind of review is very helpful to others who may be looking at our area in Maine for a vacation. We feel very fortunate to have found this cottage to buy and renovate, and we are so happy to share both the cottage and the Maine experience with our guests!
We enjoyed this lovely Seaside Cottage!
We just had the pleasure of vacationing at this lovely cottage with a seaside view! It was pristine, cozy and decorated beautifully. It felt more like a house than a cottage. The bedrooms were cozy and comfortable and it had an updated modern tiled bath and shower which made it even better! The owners put the perfect touch of décor for a seaside home, leaving nothing overlooked.
The Oceanside parks and area were breathtakingly beautiful. We would high recommend this get-away to anyone!
Thanks so much for your review! Steve and I are happy you enjoyed your vacation on the peninsula, and we shall hope that you'll be able to stay at our Maine home again!
The perfect coastal Maine vacation home!
I was very fortunate to stay in this delightful home in a quiet and beautiful area on very short notice. It is very comfortable, charming and absolutely immaculate! The owners, Jackie and Steve, have supplied every thoughtful convenience.
Within a short distance I enjoyed some wonderful hikes, a couple of spectacular beaches and couple of great spots for kayaking.
Jackie was extremely kind and helpful in arranging my visit. I so appreciated her warmth and concern for making my stay peaceful and memorable! I would love to return!
Thank you for those lovely words! We are so pleased that you were able to relax and enjoy the cottage and the surrounding area -- it is the perfect place to unwind and regroup. We hope that you’ll be able to come back in the future!
Down East Maine offers a tidbit of charm different from other areas on the coast. Abundant wildlife, eagles, heron, seal and puffin – wild blueberries in August and September -- amazing ocean hiking trails – island to island kayaking – antiquing -- and of course, those famous lobster rolls! All rolled into one very nice package of easy access and renowned Maine hospitality.
With world-famous Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain just 50 minutes away, Pigeon Hill is the perfect jumping off point for all kinds of outdoor activities, whether they are exploring the back roads by car or foot, or the ocean by kayak. The hiking and biking trails at Schoodic Point, in Acadia National Park, are ~12 miles away. In Jonesport there is hiking on Great Wass Island, and in Cutler, the Bold Coast trail. We’re just down the road from trails in the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge; and our own Pigeon Hill, which at 317’ is an easy-to-summit hill that has amazing panoramic views of the islands, including Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island (pronounced by locals as “Dessert”!). And if you like to stargaze, at night the sky is totally black and those stars just pop -- Bring your spotter or binoculars! But of course, you don’t have to be active on your vacation -- just sitting on the deck enjoying the peace and quiet, watching for the eagles, or perhaps merely enjoying a novel, goes a long way to emptying the mind of clutter and replenishing the spirit.
What We Don’t Have: Malls, Fast Food Restaurants, Traffic Jams. You can find those in Ellsworth, our nearest “big town”. However, we do have a well-stocked supermarket about 10 minutes away in Milbridge, and there are some nice restaurants within 8 miles, so you don’t have to drive to Ellsworth unless you’re going through withdrawal for the hustle & bustle!
