Why Vanessa Carroll chose Southwest Harbor
This house was the homestead of the well known local Carroll family. Close to the original Carroll homestead that was located on the Carroll Hill which is now part of Acadia National Park.

Comfortable— lots of room
This is a very interesting old house.we loved the yard and garden as well. It is advertised as 3 1/2 bathrooms, and it would be more accurate to say 2 1/2 because one full bathroom is in the basement, actually a cellar, as this is a very old house . Truely the only people who would really be ok with using that bathroom would be teen age boys.
The house was very clean with all the amenities and linens .
Perfect kitchen for family gatherings
My siblings and spouses and my Mom representing WA, IL, GA thoroughly enjoyed our recent trip. For all of us it was our first trip to Maine. The home was a great setting for us, being so close to everything we planned on doing, yet very quiet. We found the kitchen to be well appointed, spacious and inviting; the family gathered there every morning and evening. The owners were very responsive to all communication prior to and during our trip. Nathan delivered our live lobsters as requested, and we had a wonderful lobster dinner at a very reasonable price. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather (and leaf color) for mid October.
Great spot to gather to eat, plan and share stories at the end of the day.
I stayed with four of my adult siblings and their spouses at the Carroll house and it was the perfect setting. The well-equipped, modern and spacious kitchen allowed us to gather as we snacked, prepared food, or just sat with our hiking books and maps scattered on the large table making plans for the next day. The house was quiet but Southwest Harbor's busy main street with several good restaurants and shops was a quick walk away. It was a quick drive to the main park entrances, but we also were pleased to find lots of good hikes and premium kayaking on this "quiet side" of the park. We made great use of the outdoor hot tub after a day of hiking trails or biking the carriage roads in the park. The firepit in the backyard let us feel like we were camping at the end of the day, but we were able to head inside to comfortable beds and get a good night's sleep for the next day's activities. Vanessa answered all questions promptly, both before and during our stay. I would highly recommend this house for a group wanting to take advantage of all that Acadia has to offer, yet be able to escape the crowds at the end of the day. We had beautiful weather nearly the whole week, so didn't spend a lot of time indoors, but would have been comfortable had we had a couple indoor days, too.
Loved our stay at the Carroll House. Would definitely consider it again and recommend to others
I booked the Carroll House for 3 nights for 4 couples traveling from NC to Bar Harbor on the motorcycle adventure of a lifetime. This house was perfect for us. 3 Couples stayed in the main house and 1 couple stayed in the apartment over the garage. All of us enjoyed our stay very much. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and the bonus of coming back to the house after exploring for the day and having fresh lobsters in the refrigerator waiting for us was so appreciated. Also, having the use of two bays in the garage to park 7 motorcycles over night was also very much appreciated.
The location says it all!
We had a great time in this house. We hosted our 3 sons and their families (12 total) in the house and apartment. Vanessa and her husband live close by and responded rapidly when we had an electrical issue. The house is very well equipped and the appliances are nice. Parking is no issue, the location is very close to downtown Southwest Harbor and is in a quiet area behind a school. Southwest Harbor is much quieter and has a more relaxed atmosphere than the eastern part of the island. Bar Harbor is only about 20 minutes away. Vanessa was great to work with and the house was everything that it was claimed to be and then some. We were very satisfied.
Absolutely loved the outdoors and kitchen. We used the firepit and had someone in the group in the hot tub almost every night! The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed hanging out and eating in there.
The separate apartment above the garage was perfect for my family. The kids had a space that wasn't disruptive to the rest of the group in the main house. We all enjoyed being able to walk a quick block to the town.
Would definitely stay here again if we were to come back
