Wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved the outdoors and kitchen. We used the firepit and had someone in the group in the hot tub almost every night! The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed hanging out and eating in there.

The separate apartment above the garage was perfect for my family. The kids had a space that wasn't disruptive to the rest of the group in the main house. We all enjoyed being able to walk a quick block to the town.

Would definitely stay here again if we were to come back

Spacious property in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Carroll house for a week in July with our children and grandchildren. Lobsters in the crisper for us when we arrived was a great way to start our Acadia vacation. So much so that we did it again the following Friday. Easy access to Acadia and downtown Southwest Harbor. Big kitchen and outdoor patio for cooking and gathering after a long day of hiking & exploring.

Amazing property in Southwest Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in the Carroll's house. Vanessa was a wonderful host. We were so happy that we decided to stay in Southwest Harbor. It is referred to as the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island and it was the perfect place to enjoy a more private family gathering. The house is in a great location. It is close to Acadia Park as well as stores where we rented bicycles and arranged a sea kayak outing. We enjoyed the short walk to the coffee shop, wine store, grocery store, and restaurants. The house had plenty of room for two families (3 kids from 3 to 14) and grandparents. The rooms were large and comfortable and the private 1 bedroom suite above the garage further expanded our sleeping options. The kitchen was large and well-stocked. We cooked most of our meals at home including two lobster feasts. The lobster was delivered directly to the fridge which we arranged through Vanessa. Our daughters enjoyed the expansive yard for doing gymnastics. We all enjoyed sitting around the fire pit in the evening singing songs and going in the hot tub. We would highly recommend this property.

A well situated homely house with a fine kitchen as a convivial focus

  • 4 of 5

The house is situated on the quieter side of Mt Desert Island just a few hundred yards from a fine cafe (very good lobster rolls), a decent bar and 2 reasonable restaurants. In addition, there is an excellent wine shop which also sells good cheese and olives. A deli is also there in Southwest Harbor which is not inexpensive but is comprehensive in terms of what it sells and very close. There are walks directly from the house to forest and coast but varied and longer trails are close by.

The house centres around the kitchen which is very well equipped. The kitchen provided the social centre for our party and we loved eating and drinking there all together. The house is comfortable and well fitted out. The garden is large and a social focus too, aided of course by the hot tub.

The great thing about the house is that after a day out walking, it is a home that you want to go back too, whether it is to stay in all evening or to go out for a drink first or start the evening in the kitchen and then go out.

We recommend it highly and would go back there. Mrs Carroll is a very welcoming owner.

Central and Accommodating!

  • 5 of 5

Vanessa welcomed us in to her property with a tour and an offer of freshly caught lobster delivered to our door! While we couldn't take her up on this offer, we did enjoy our stay at her property. There was plenty of room for all our guests and their stuff, and the house is right in the middle of town making it convenient to (literally) everything! The property is gorgeous and we enjoyed the firepit. Vanessa would be a great host for those who've never been to MDI, as her husband is a long-time resident of SWH and they know all the ins & outs!

Wonderful property - fantastic vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This house & apartment were perfect for our extended family of 7 adults and 2 small children. Very comfortable, clean and well maintained. The location is indeed great; we were able to walk to church, shops & restaurants. It's an easy drive to Bar Harbor, the park loop road, Wildwood Stables, etc. And even quicker to drive to Seawall, Wonderland, the Bass Harbor Head Light and other places on the west side of the island. Vanessa was a great host and very responsive. We enjoyed the lobsters her husband delivered right to our refrigerator. Some highlights of our week, in no particular order:

1. Watching the sunrise from the Cadillac Mountain summit

2. Walking across the causeway at the mill dam, Norwood Cove

3. Kayaking on Long Pond

4. Watching the sunset at the Bass Harbor Head Light

5. Playing on Sand Beach

6. Looking at the stars over Sand Beach

7. Hiking the Ocean Path trail

8. Hiking around Jordan Pond, and eating lunch on the lawn at Jordan Pond House

9. Riding over the carriage roads in a horse-drawn carriage

10. Walking the Bar Island trail

We had a lovely week together and built many great memories. Many thanks to Vanessa and her family.
