The house is great for a couple (it's pretty small) wanting to check out a little of a lot in and around Charelston. Driving downtown is about 8 min away and another 8 minutes from Sullivan's Island (one of the best beaches around Charleston and the whole South East, frankly. Sullivan's is a quaint beach town with great food and cute little boutique stores. It's a nice balance to Charleston's more lively, glam downtown.) This house is located right on Shem Creek, so it's really close to lots of laid back, beachy style restaurants (all within walking distance). The neighborhood where the house is located is one of the most coveted in the Charleston area, which is called Old Village Mount Pleasant. It's absolutely beautiful - a quaint historic village with gigantic live oaks and gorgeous historic homes, some vast, some tiny and adorable. A must see in the neighborhood are the village shops, and the Old Village Post House Inn, which has posh vibe, good drinks and good oysters.
For a bit of adventure close to the house, check out Coastal Explorations. It's a kayak tour company a few blocks away, and offers tons of really cool tours for all adventure levels - from an easy kayak tour on Shem Creek where you learn about tons of wildlife (perfect for families with little ones) to a more adventuresome day long kayak tour starting in a national park to a historic plantation or camping destination. Their staff will create an awesome adventure for whatever you're looking for.
All and all, the house is pretty great for it's location. I think there are squirrels living in one of the walls, which isn't terrible by any means. It just freaked us out for a moment. But it was winter when we were there and they were probably looking for some coverage. Not a deal breaker.
Lovely cottage, in the perfect spot. Unfortunately, the weather was quite cool so we did not get to enjoy the porch. Cottage is quite private though in a neighborhood. We would highly recommend this cottage.
This little gem is the perfect getaway. Cheerful inside and out, private, and only 10 minutes from downtown Charleston. Still dreaming of that beautiful marsh view and intend to return.
We had the most wonderful time at this cottage. The cottage is amazing - clean, updated and fun. We love Mt. Pleasant and the surrounding area and are so happy to have found this jewel. It's walking distance to fresh/local shrimp on the Creek, the beaches are just a short drive, Home Team is on Sullivan's - it is low country heaven. The owner was also incredibly nice and friendly. We have zero complaints and will definitely be back. Thank you for the best vacation!
Loved the location! Perfect distance between Sullivan's Island and Charleston. And the short walk to the restaurants on Shem Creeks is great when you don't want to get into the car. It was our first time staying in Mount Pleasant but I think it will be where we always stay going forward.
The cottage was well equipped and really nicely decorated. The bed and bedding were super comfortable and I loved watching the boats come in and out of the creek right from bed. It was a little chilly so we didn't spend a lot of time on the deck but we will next time.
The owner was a delight to deal with. Very accommodating and friendly and gave great restaurant suggestions including The Old Village Post House and we thank him for that.
All in all, great stay and can't wait to stay again!
We really enjoyed this house a lot while we were down there. It had great sunset views with a little marsh out front which was really nice. The location was great as well and within walking distance of a lot of activities. The size of the house was perfect for a young couple and we didnt need any more room. The only problems we had that kept it from getting 5 stars were whenever we opened the fridge it made the whole house smell like rotten fish. We understand this probably had something to do with power being lost in the last week or so due to the hurricane, but it was still not a nice smell and it lingered. It also made everything we put in the fridge smell as well. The main problem we had was the bathroom floor was slanted terribly. Around the toilet the tile grout was cracked and tiles were slanting in pretty bad. We sometimes felt as if the floor might would give way while we were in there. There was about a 1/2" gap between the tile and the quarter round where they had become separated where the floor had sunk in. Other than those 2 things it was a great property and we would still probably stay there again.
