communication and infrastructure need attention

Condo was fine, as described. Courtyard pretty and well maintained. We suffered through a broken cistern that meant unreliable water supply throughout almost all our 2 week stay.(including a week without hot water). Poor communication from management and no acknowledgement of effect of substandard conditions. Walk to beach OK, but only beaches available fronted by beach restaurants/bars (2 decent ones so a bit of a scramble for loungers etc) Otherwise guards pushed us off hotel beaches. Pretty scruffy back streets to walk to gain access to main road to beaches, restaurants, groceries. We won't be returning.

Owner's Response: Yes, it was unfortunate indeed that there was a problem with the cistern and the management of the complex did the best they could and brought in water trucks, however I understand it was not as reliable as we would have wanted it to be however water was supplied 90% of the time... I know from many years of experience that when there is a problem such as this, then the reviews tend to be on the negative side about everything....It is very unfortunate and sad that some people can let something fairly minor ruin their vacation and then try and let everyone else know to somehow make themselves feel better....

Comforts of home in exciting tropical paradise.

My family and I had the opportunity to stay in this apartment in Santa Maria del Mar this past August. We recently purchased a condo in El Cortecito which is under construction, so this visit served both as a family vacation and a chance to see the progress on our own place nearby.

The location of this unit is arguably the best in the complex. Santa Maria del Mar boasts lush gardens surrounding the central swimming pool; and this third floor unit overlooks the length of the complex, facing right down the center. It is the perfect backdrop to enjoy your morning cup of world class Dominican coffee. In addition to those wonderful tropical postcard views from the living room and balcony, there is also a private rooftop terrace, tiled, nicely furnished, and topped with a terra cotta shingled gazebo. Sitting on this terrace in the evening sharing a few Presidentes, (the local Dominican beer), with the breeze blowing off the ocean a short distance away, was a special treat.

Inside the condo things only get better. Overall, the apartment is spacious and airy, aided by the ceiling fans and screened windows and patio door. There was plenty of room for my wife and myself along with our two adult children. The furniture is plush and comfy, much more like you would find in a luxury hotel, or even your own home, than the usual furnishings in rentals. The attractive decorations and artwork add to the homey feel. The air conditioning units work well and efficiently cool the apartment in the heat of the day. The kitchen is well equipped, but we ate most of our meals out at the numerous local restaurants and cafes. There is a washer and dryer located in an outdoor utility area off of the kitchen.

The condo is represented by Todd Williams of Reliable Management. Todd and his wife Maria, (who is a real estate sales agent), are wonderful to deal with. They are committed to insuring your stay in Punta Cana is enjoyable, and that everything in the apartment is as it should be. You can count on them for honest and candid information about everything Dominican, from the best beaches to the fun night spots.

Please Note: If you are flying into Santo Domingo, it is a 2 hour drive to Punta Cana & Punta Cana does not have any official addresses. It is recommended to fly directly into Punta Cana Intl. Airport & prearrange with us transportation with an English speaking driver who knows the area well. Most Taxi drivers only know where the resorts are & not the names of condo communities or Plazas.
