Guest Access:

Guests have access to all amenities listed above.

We're also able to accommodate special requests. Please inquire beforehand!

Interaction with Guests:

We love interacting with our guests, but also greatly respect their privacy. We live just a few blocks away from the space, and are happy to help with any questions you may have. We've lived in the city for over 25 years and are happy to give suggestions on local secrets. My father is also happy to lead some free hikes around the neighborhood if requested in advance!

The Neighborhood

The Sunset is a safe and relaxing neighborhood just outside the San Francisco downtown. There are many great restaurants nearby, easy access to many SF hotspots via public transportation, and proximity to Ocean Beach and the SF Zoo. It is a pleasant area where you can enjoy ocean views and sunsets on a sunny day.

Getting around:

There are 3 main bus lines within a couple of blocks of the space, including a main MUNI line that goes to the heart of downtown in 25 minutes. This L line can be boarded on Taraval St. (2 blocks north), departing every 10 minutes, and making its last trip back at 1:30am.

Another helpful bus line is the 29, which can be boarded on Sunset Ave. (1 block east), and goes to Golden Gate Park, as well as close to the Golden Gate Bridge.

San Francisco also has a number of 'private' taxi services which are cheaper than city cabs. Companies like Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar, give great service and quick, discounted rides.

I would be happy to share free-ride vouchers with you!

Nice place to stay on a budget

  • 4 of 5

The home was roomy and clean. We had 6 adults and 4 kids, and had plenty of room. We had a nice stay, and the owner was very responsive with questions. He also offered tips on what to do in the area. Sunset has a lot of restaurants, and the beach is nearby. This was a great place for us to stay because our group had two rental cars, including a large Suburban. It was nice not having to pay for parking at the house. I know all the travel advice for San Francisco says not to get a rental car. However, for us mid-westerners not used to public transportation, I can't imagine not having the cars (especially with 4 little kids). We drove downtown and did all the tourist things, and we had no problem finding parking and it was actually a lot cheaper to park for the day than I thought it would be. I think we paid $18 in a parking garage. This was a lot cheaper than getting several Ubers, or even public transportation tickets for everyone. (We had free days for the rental car expense). We also drove to Muir Woods, which was one of the highlights of our trip. So I write all that, in case there is someone else that wonders if they should rent a car, and are discouraged by all the people that say you won't want a rental car. We did have a few minor issues with our stay. The house cleaner was still working when we arrived (after 4:00), so we couldn't get into the upstairs portion of the house. She said the people before us checked out late and left it a mess. I realize this isn't the owner's fault (unless the cleaner was just making an excuse), so just something to note. Also, if you have little kids, the bedrooms are very light at bedtime (especially if you are coming from an Eastern time zone). We pretty much had to convince our kids to sleep when it seemed like day in their rooms. The room with the king size bed has a sky light, so it seemed especially bright. I would also recommend buying some disposable bowls and silverware, if you will be having many meals there. A few of us had ice cream one night, and the next morning my mom had to have cereal in a mug with a fork, because there weren't enough bowls and spoons. Overall, it was a good place for us to stay, nothing fancy, but it's also quite a bit cheaper than the fancy places we looked at.

(The house cleaner is a nucense) and i feel like the owner has cameras because they kept e-mailing me about assumptions they had about things that were NOT happeningl. I wouldnt recommend. Only if u like a private peep show!!

Came here with our large family of 15 for a wedding! Had a great time and the accommodations were ideal for everyone. Downstairs was recently painted and looks a lot nicer than in the photos.

Great house by the beach

  • 5 of 5

My group had a great stay at this house in early October, 2016. The house is only 2-3 blocks to a great beach. It is also very close to restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, the zoo, and the Bart. Golden Gate park is about a 10 minute drive and the pier and embarcadero is only about a 20 minute drive. For the price it's hard to beat in San Fran. The house is a bit older and dated, but everything is functional and comfortable. There is also a garage and driveway to fit several vehicles. The kitchen had plenty of pots, pans, and utensils. Along with a coffee maker, and lots of leftover coffee, condiments etc. If you're looking for a good base house while you see the city this is a great house. If you're looking for an updated, fancy, gorgeous home this may not be for you. I recommend this house and if my group comes back to the area I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
