Marlyn 'Blick' and Ruth Drange had the Lodge built in 1997 and have enjoyed running it as a Bed and Breakfast. Because of age they are not able to do that anymore. Both owners have spent all their lives in the area. They have been married for fifty four years and have lots of stories to tell of their experiences of running a ranch.
Ruth Drange purchased this lodge in 1997
People need a place to rest and relax and enjoy nature, After visiting a daughter in California they decided to provide one such place. One of the favorite things the guests like is sitting outside at night and watching the stars while hearing the sounds of nature.
If you have special limitations or need to negotiate the fees we will work with you. Also we offer special prices for crafting groups and local reservations, please call or email us for details.

With a big, well stocked kitchen, generous sleeping and bath rooms, gorgeous views with room to roam we were able to spread out when needed yet come together for intimate discussions. Everyone in my party was pleased with the accommodations and I was pleased to work with such a great woman, Ruth Drange. She was gracious and helpful throughout the planning process. The six spacious rooms each with a private bath were beautiful
BEDS were available for many more in the loft and lodge
THE KITCHEN with the walk in cooler and refrigerator made our cooking wonderful
We did also enjoy the ice machine, commercial stove and dishwasher.

EVERYONE is still talking about the wonderful time
Extras included the flower garden, swimming, water slide near by and the peaceful setting A FANTASTIC WEEK
Burnt Out Lodge was the perfect place for a family reunion of nearly 45 attendees. This included a variety of ages from toddlers to 80+. The Lodge itself was our headquarters and housed nearly half of our group. The others enjoyed either tents or RV's in close proximity. The large walk-in cooler and freezer, as well as on-site ice-maker were a big hit. The kitchen is where much of the visiting took place, and this kitchen was absolutely amazing. The Drange family were wonderful hosts and all expectations were met during our weekend. They accommodated every request.
Our family enjoys music, and the piano was well-used over the weekend. There was plenty of room for outdoor games and events were planned accordingly. There were a few that drove to town for forgotten items - otherwise all chose to stay at the Lodge and just enjoy the time with family.
We will definitely consider using this location again for other family gatherings.
The scenery surrounding the lodge is filled with beauty and never once disappointed throughout our entire stay. With every light change during the day, you noticed more and more. The lodge was built with extreme craftsmanship and was clean and inviting from the moment we walked through the door. The gourmet kitchen was a dream to cook in and has given me ideas for my home kitchen remodel. The only drawback was that we didn't have more time to stay there and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We will be back for sure and this time will make sure we have plenty of time to take in all the splendor this lodge has to offer.
The lodge was great for our family over Thanksgiving week. The ladies loved the big kitchen with anything a cook could want or need. The laundry room was very handy. The bedrooms were spacious and very well decorated. Plenty of space for everyone to have there own area, yet a common area where we could all get together. The lodge setting along Upper Deer Creek is wonderful, with Mule Deer plentiful on the drive in and around the lodge. It was perfect for taking walks in the warm November sun. It is only minutes to Big Timber with plenty of choices for shopping and eateries! We had a great time and will be back again!
The lodge is huge. We had a family reunion and there was more than enough space for all of us to see, or not see each other:) The kitchen was stocked. The walk-in frig, freezer made me envious.
Highly recommended for a large reunion, such as ours. Enjoy.
PS you must try the onion rings at the Grand Lodge in Big Timber.
We rented the lodge for our family reunion and had a fantastic time! It fit 20 of us comfortably, had a big kitchen where we could all get together and cook, and was private yet had many activities close by. What a great vacation!
I am feeling nostalgic today. When Burnt Out Lodge was just a dream of mine (I was much younger!). The Black Butte Fire came through the property on September 9, 1994. I thought it was over before it had a chance. The people that we had been working with told us we had eighteen months to use the burnt trees. The Lodge was built using those burnt trees. We then started a Bed and Breakfast. I loved it we met many people from all over the world.
What a learning experience! All went well until May 2011 when we had the worst flood in years. Although the building was a good distance from the creek, we had water from one bank to the other of the valley. The damage was awful, the entire valley looked like a rock covered mess. The flood took out our septic tank, washed under Room 4 and took the pond out. The entire summer we had Stenberg Construction company remaking the valley and pond. There was no business conducted that year. When we reopened in 2012 we opened as a Vacation Rental (Age was forcing us to cut down on the labor). The grounds are starting to look like nothing ever happened and the new pond is doing well. Hope those who are not aware of our history enjoy my trip down memory lane. Have a good day!
