Prime Hook Beach House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Come and relax at our home at Primehook Beach. Watch the dolphins in the open waters of the Delaware Bay from our second and third floors or the snow geese, grackles and gulls from our backyard that adjoins the Primehook National Wildlife Reserve with its acres of water. With three floors there is plenty of room for your family to spread out and relax. The top two floors were built in 2003 and the first floor has been remodeled. Our sunsets over the water are gorgeous.

We are across the street from the beach, a short walk. Enjoy bike rides in our private community or go for long walks along the quiet beach looking for shells and sea glass. You will quickly see why Primehook is such a gem. It reminds us of Nags Head, only much closer or Ocean City, MD how it was 60 years ago.

We have two bedrooms on the first floor. One with a king size bed, the other with a full. They share a bathroom with a tub and shower. There is bedroom with 2 single beds and a bathroom with a shower on the second floor. The third floor has a loft bedroom with a queen size bed and its own half bathroom. This bedroom has a magnificent view of the water. At night you can lay in bed and see the ships with their lights on anchored in the Bay.

In nearby Milton, about 9 miles away, we have a Food Lion, a

Walgreens, a Subway, a Chinese carryout, a Domino's and one of our favorites, the Miltonian Restaurant with Greek/Italian and American cuisine. For more shopping we have Lewes and Rehobeth south on Route 1. There is the Boardwalk in Rehobeth and further south, in Ocean City as well as historic sites, theatres, amusement parks, the incomparable Henlopen State Park on the ocean in Rehobeth and all kinds of experiences awaiting you at the shore.

We look forward to hearing from you to plan your vacation at our house in Primehook Beach. It will be our pleasure to help you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Ask us to send you our rental agreement so you can book your rental while there is still time. By the way, no waiting for keys at our house, we have resort lock. Thank you, Ron and Anne.

About Ron and Anne Anthony

Anne and I grew up in Northern Virginia, married and moved to the Baltimore area. She is a Medical Technologist at a local hospital and I am in the investment business. We have two wonderful sons, Mike and Nick. They are both attending Towson University. We have 2 other members of our family and they are Teddy and Riley, our very special Yorkshire Terriers. Anne teaches Yoga and Zumba while I like to work on old cars for fun. We hope you enjoy our home.

Ron and Anne Anthony purchased this house in 2011

Why Ron and Anne Anthony chose Delaware

While we enjoyed family vacations in the Outer Banks for many years we prefer being much closer to home with many of the same benefits here in Primehook Beach. Away from the crowds and close to nature.

What makes this house unique

Water views in the front and waterfront in the rear gives us the best of both worlds. Having three floors especially with the high ceilings in the second floor gives us a wonderful feeling of spaciousness. Five decks allow all kinds of perspectives that enhance the experience. Being in Primehook Beach gives you quiet and peacefulness. You can walk on the beach and, many times, be the only one there. At the same time you are only about 20 miles from Rehobeth Beach and tons of things to do. For us vacations are about relaxing and enjoying the simple things, walking on the beach, looking for shells, surf fishing, bird watching, bike rides, long lunches on the deck. Its all here.

Awesome, quiet week

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at this comfortable house. Ron and Anne were very easy to deal with and communicated quickly throughout the process. We traveled with our dog and small children, so the grassy fenced yard was great. We enjoyed several beautiful sunsets over the refuge from the decks. A quick and easy walk put us on the very quiet beach. We loved the calmer waters of the bay for the children and we also enjoyed looking for shells and turning the horseshoe crabs at the water's edge. We loved the quiet area and the option to drive into Rehobeth for the attractions there. The outdoor shower was a big hit and even the little Dyson vacuum made cleaning up throughout the week fun! Thanks for an awesome week!

Great House with Amazing Nature

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect house for our family! The views were amazing, seriously...sunsets from the Nature Channel. The beach was quiet and lovely and the house was clean and well taken care of. Ron was available for the few questions we had and made it clear and easy for us. Thanks for a great vacation!

Perfect for family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We just left this prime hook rental and feel so lucky to have found this gem. The owners, Ron and Anne, were very attentive to all of our needs & answered any questions we had. The house was stocked with any extras we may have needed, and the outdoor shower was a favorite for all.

We stayed at the house with our two boys(3&6) and our friends with their boys (6&8) & their dog. There was Plenty of room for all of us & the location is perfect as you Are close enough to activities in other beach towns but far enough away that you don't get caught up in the craziness of being at a Delaware Beach town. We enjoyed going into Bethanny, Rohobeth, Lewes as well as staying right in Prime Hook.

I would definitely recommend this for a family getaway and a nice place to call your home away from home.

Amazing views

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic house - almost too good, our 2 year old didn't want to leave the house! It is spacious and well kept. The kitchen is nicer and better stocked than any other rental I can think of. The roof deck is brilliant, we spent many nights up there watching the stars and both bodies of water visible. Also great access to outdoor fun.

The Best At Prime Hook

  • 5 of 5

First, Ron is hands down, the best property-renter out there. He is very accommodating, he will answer all your questions, and he is an all around great guy.

The Lookout is the finest spot you’ll find anywhere around Prime Hook. The house sits right on the PH Preserve but has excellent views of the Bay thanks to all the decks, including the one on the roof. The house and grounds are kept up really well and there's plenty of room for 8 people. We spent a substantial part of one morning on the second floor back deck next to juniper trees, observing the warblers darting around the branches. The scenery out in the Preserve never stops changing—gulls, terns, egrets, herons, skimmers, and some early Snow Geese this year (couple years back I saw some rare White Pelicans fly in and land in the Preserve). You could spend the whole time just sitting and watching. BUT, we hit the beach too (we hiked all the way up to have a look at the breeches one day). We also hung out on one of the sand bars out in the Bay as well. We had the whole beach to ourselves. You’ll want to take time to hike into the Preserve (short drive to HQ) and we always hit Rehoboth for food, fudge, etc.

If you’re looking for a great get-away spot at the shore that puts you a good distance from any crowds, then look no further, my friend.

Lovely property - lots of horseshoe crabs!

  • 4 of 5

The home is very well laid out with lots of room (note that the 3rd floor bedroom has no door and faces into the stairs that lead from the 2nd floor living area and bedroom) and great balconies. It was a wonderful spot for biking, running and admiring birds, rabbits and enormous horseshoe crabs, which were all over the beach (nearby Lewes Beach may be more attractive for actually going into the ocean). While we had paid to rent the kayaks, unbeknownst to us, they were only for use in the open ocean - where we saw no one else on kayaks during our week there - and not on the calm water behind the house, as that was too shallow. I asked for a refund, since once I arrived I saw that we would not be using them on the rough ocean (and only undoing a lock was required to provide us with access) and had contacted the owner, but was told that others (trained, I expect in strong current, open-water kayaking!) had used the kayaks and that there were no refunds for weather. So - think twice before signing on for that feature. Otherwise, a very nice stay in an attractive, quietly situated property.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that many renters find our beach home to be spacious and comfortable. Prime Hook is a quiet and special place for many of our guests. There is a video on the web page that shows the layout of each floor. The video shows the loft bedroom is not visible from the stairs or the rooms below. In 2009, Primehook Beach became an official sanctuary for horseshoe crabs. This is the state marine animal. These harmless animals come ashore to spawn in May and June. We have seen many of them on the waters edge in the early morning. They lay their eggs there which attract many shore birds. My sister and I kayak every time we come to Prime Hook. (We are 60 and she is not a good swimmer) We advise everyone that rent the kayaks that the best time to kayak is low tide which occurs twice every 24 hours. We provide wheels for each kayak that allows one person to pull the kayaks to the beach. The times we have been kayaking the water has only been 3-4 feet deep as far out as we can go. That is what makes low tide perfect for kayaking. Storms and wind will make the water rough as it would anywhere. For those that have never kayaked it might not be worth the cost. But for those that like to be out on the water it is a wonderful experience. Many of the residents and visitors find the quiet, secluded beach a wonderful place to swim, fish, kayak, sail, and walk their dogs. This is one of the wonderful attractions Prime Hook Beach.

Notes:
Our house started out with one story. In 2003 the prior owner added the second and third levels so most of the house is only 9 years old. Our backyard has spectacular views over the Primehook National Wildlife Refuge and its waters. It is a 10,000 acre sanctuary and the sunsets are breathtaking. We also have second and third floor views of the Delaware Bay across the street. We are just across the street from the beach. Just beautiful! 4 beach chairs, 3 bikes
