Overview

About the property

The house is located in the historic bastide village of Issigeac, close to Bergerac in the south Dordogne. Built in the seventeenth century, it is tucked into a quiet corner, in the heart of the village, close to the main square, and a short stroll to pavement cafes, shops, the chateau and the medieval church. It looks out over the beautiful stained glass windows of the Medieval church at the back, while at the front, it has French doors which open onto a charming, secluded, private courtyard. A quiet, peaceful, suntrap.

Nice gite but under equipped!

  • 4 of 5

Lovely gite very chic modern but under equipped. No info on locality from owners and were not aware from home away website that it was on second floor! Wife and dog with mobility problem found it hard work up two flights of winding stairs. However the week was very pleasantly spent. Never met the lady with whom we communicated - only her partner twice. Need to make it clear that the property houses two chambre s d'hôte and a gite!

Owner's Response: We've travelled widely around France with two dogs and if we had found (which we never had) a gite as beautiful as this in a house equally as beautiful and in the centre of lovely historic village, offering good facilities, including fabulous internet connection, the house which accepts dogs which is rare - I would not complain. As for the Chambres d'Hotes, it is on first floor and it wasn't occupied during your stay, you actually had the run of the whole house to yourselves, including the salon and the courtyard. You didn't see me because I was just recovering from a stay in a hospital after an accident. I was surprised that if mobility was a problem why didn't you mention it in the original enquiry. My husband was trying to be as helpful as possible, he actually stood in torrential rain on a street corner so you could find the best place to park your car. Sometimes I wonder what you have to do to please people in this world, although I I've always enjoyed meeting my guests, many of whom have become friends. Best wishes, Eva

Car: recommended

Issigeac is defined by its architecture but it's not a museum. It's a vibrant, busy village with an atractive sunday market which should not be missed on any account. There are five restaurants and three pavement cafes, art galleries and interesting shops. There are also two small supermarkets, a post office, 2 chemists, 3 boulangeriesand a fine wine merchant. It somehow manages to be both a turist attraction and a living village.

Around, there is a string of beautiful old villages with ancient churches and other historic monuments. For lovers of French wine - the wine trail with extravagant chateaux and mansions, such as Chateau Monbazilliac. For nature lovers - beautiful countryside with sunflowers, wineyards, village markets, rivers and walks. Protected nature reserve - the impressive Bay of Arcachon on the Atlantic coast is only just over 2 hours drive away.
