About the property

2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath Cottage, full kitchen, AC, washer & dry, WiFi sleeps 4-5

The Kalaheo Beach House is a spacious 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath traditional plantation home offering an authentic Hawaiian living experience in a private, serene, garden setting, only steps away from world famous Kailua Beach on Oahu's windward side.

The Kalaheo Beach House is ideally situated on a private beach lane, in a serene, garden setting, only 240 steps away (yes, we counted them) from world famous Kailua Beach on Oahu's windward side.

It is truly four minutes out the front door and down the private lane to access beautiful, uncrowded Kailua Beach.

Outside the house, there is a large garden area with outdoor shower, a breezy, lovely open deck with furniture and a gas BBQ.

The storage shed contains 4 small adult bicycles, beach chairs, small coolers, boogie boards and float noodles for use at the beach. There also is a beach wagon to pull the chairs to the beach.

An open Hawaiian outdoor hot/cold shower is behind the house for you to enjoy when you come from the beach.

Inside the house there is one bedroom with a queen sized bed and a second bedroom with two extra-long firm twin beds. The house has a half bath and a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.

There is a full kitchen with full size stove, large refrigerator, freezer and ice maker, but no automatic dish washer, a dining area for 6 and a nice living room with large flat screen cable connected HDTV.

There is a large desk in the kitchen with Wi-Fi internet access for your laptop. The house also has a landline for local calls.

Most days island trade winds and ceiling fans will keep you comfortable but at night or when needed, there is air-conditioning for your added comfort in each bedroom.

There is a washer and dryer on the property and a double wide parking space.

The Neighborhood

At Kalaheo Beach House you might hear the surf at night. If you're looking for an out of the way Hawaiian vacation rental, walking distance to Kailua Town and the beach, look no further. We are located in a lovely neighborhood in the nicest place on earth. Seven golf courses in a five-mile radius, tennis courts, an Olympic-sized pool, fabulous beaches, activity adventures, exciting shopping, and gourmet dining -- Kailua has everything; two and a half miles of white sand beach with no hotels, resorts, time shares or beachfront condos. This is affordable paradise.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My husband and I just returned from our vacation in Oahu where we were the guest of Les and Pat Rosenthal at their lovely home in Kailua.

The house is located just steps away from the beautiful Kailua beach which in itself is worth the trip. Strolling on the beach every morning to get coffee and pastries is a great way to start your morning.

The house is a traditional beach home located within short driving distances to what Ouahu has to offer. Everything about the house is perfect. It is clean, comfortable and a joy to stay in. There is plenty of room in the big kitchen and the dinning room is big enough to sit a family of 4 very comfortably.

I was pleasantly surprised on how spacious the bedrooms were. If you decide to just stay and not go anywhere you can enjoy the deck out back and have a barbecue.

The one thing I really enjoyed was the friendliness of the neighbors. I have stayed in many beach homes over the years and this house is by far the best for the money. Aloha! Debbie and Richard

Great place to stay in Kailua

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here with our three kids for a week in Sept. The house is in a great location. It is literally a 1-2 min walk down the lane to the beach. So close I would walk down barefoot, jump in the ocean for 5-10 min, and walk home. Kailua is a nice, quiet place to stay. Kailua Beach is gorgeous. Kailua is kind of in the center of everything distance-wise: Honolulu, North Shore, Laie, Makapu'u Point, etc. Good parking for 2 vehicles.

There are only beds for 4 and only the bedrooms are air-conditioned. We were very comfortable at night in the bedrooms. Our youngest slept on the fold-out futon in the LR and he did okay with a fan (provided) directly on him, but it was Sept, not July. The living spaces weren't too bad since we just left the windows open 24/7.

The house felt roomy for the five of use, plenty of room to move around, relax, etc. The carpet was recently cleaned. The kitchen was adequate, but nothing fancy. There are enough dishes, etc to do simple cooking. Some reusable ice blocks are in the freezer and there's a cooler in the shed. There were basic condiments in the fridge (ketchup, mayo, mustard, etc). Ants appear if any food is left out. I recommend bringing large storage zip-locks to put open packages in (crackers, cookeis, etc.), bag clips for cereal bags, etc. Nothing can be left open, it must be either completely sealed or in the fridge.

There is a W/D outside, but you'll need to bring your own soap and softeners. There are beach towels provided which are adequate, but if you want really nice ones, bring your own. We were fine with theirs, I wouldn't waste the luggage space. There were beach chairs, 2 boogie boards, etc. Again, adequate, but nothing fancy.

The outside shower was really nice. The inside BR is fine, but no shampoo or anything is provided, just soap. The extra 1/2 bath was nice for when the BR was in use.

Internet worked pretty well when it was just my laptop, but once everyone else woke up and go their phones going, it got a little slow. TV gets cable, but if you want certain movies, bring your own DVDs or something.

All things considered, we would stay here again. The location really couldn't be better, except maybe directly on the beach. (Assuming you don't want to stay in busy Waikiki!) The home is not "fancy", but everything was clean and in order and the home is very comfortable to "hang out" in. The tips above will hopefully make you a little more prepared.

Great house, wonderful location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Kalaheo beach house! The location was perfect! Just steps from a gorgeous beach and close to town for those quick dinners and shave ice. The A/C in the bedrooms was heavenly and the outdoor shower was divine! I miss it already and it's only been 24 hours!

Great Beach Home!

  • 4 of 5

Had an amazing Hawaii vacation, and we loved the Kalaheo Beach House. The home is such a cute tropical home, and it was the perfect size for the three of us. Loved that is was a short (very short) walk to the beach, and the beach almost feels private, hardly anyone around, simply beautiful! The home came equipped with all that we needed for our stay, even had a couple beach toys for us to use. The rooms were good size and had comfortable beds, and linens. Kitchen has everything you need. The only reason I did not give this home five stars is because of the lack of AC. The only rooms in the house that have AC are the bedrooms. The rest of the house has no AC running through it. There are two fans in the living room and a ceiling fan, but they were not much help. One of the fans is broken and does not oscillate like it's suppose to, it stays in one direction only. This was very uncomfortable, and it made spending time together in the living area almost impossible. We tried to leave windows closed during the day and open at night to help, but it did not work. It was so hot and humid in the home that my son and I chose to take our showers outside. We spent most of our time outside, and away experiencing Hawaii, so I would not make this a deal breaker for staying at this home again on our next Hawaiian vacation.

Overall stay to the island was amazing my kids enjoyed the beach hopping from Waikiki to Northshore

After all the hassles in reserving this house it's all worth the troubles, though I'm still waiting for the final says if they'll return the "deposit for damage refundable fee ". We literally took care of the house and cleaned it well before we left .

The house is a little bit overrated for the price bec it needs updating:carpet and floors are kinda old The shower tub drainage is not functioning well if you're in the middle of taking shower water is backing up suddenly the same with the shower outside I think there's something wrong with drainage system, but I do like that there's one shower outside. The house has washer and dryer unfortunately dryer doesn't work well knobs are not working but it was good enough to experienced drying our clothes the old fashioned way:under the sun! The location of the house though is nice bec literally 2min walk away by the beach, quiet neighborhood, equipped with beach toys, umbrella, beach wagon and mats also with strong wifi connections. The house seems so hot inside bec there's no ac except the rooms feels like over 100F + humidity in the living and kitchen areas.p, though we are outside all the time and arrived almost late enjoying the islands beauty! Over all, we love the locations and proximity to everything. We'll definitely go back to Oahu! Thanks!

Wonderful house and location

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful location and we loved the house. The deck and outdoor shower where great. Everything we needed was in the house- towels, bikes, boogie boards, bar-b-que etc- so that made things really easy. The location is perfect - so close to the beach.
