Everyone knows Rincon is a great winter escape, but come enjoy Rincon the rest of the year, too!. Treat yourself to the tranquility & beauty when the crowds leave. Travel here in the spring, summer, or autumn & you'll experience a quieter side of Rincon. July is busy & fun when the San Juan families come out to enjoy some beach time, but most other times you will play on almost empty beaches. Early August, the kids return to school, & it's quiet. When the winter waves are gone, Rincon enjoys some of the best snorkeling & diving in the world. Steps Beach at the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve has the best stand of Elk Horn coral close into an island in the world (according to the NOAA researcher who's been following it for over 15 years!). Take one of the local diving boats out to Desecheo Island, only 11 miles off the coast, & enjoy visibility of 100+ ft all the time. Rincon is a year round destination with something for everyone. My family and I stayed at Casa Miramar for a week before Easter. I have to say that the photos in the listing do not do this beautiful spot justice. The view and the beach are just spectacular and the home is well kept, extremely private, and modern. We just cannot recommend this vacation home enough and we want to thank the fantastic staff who helped make our vacation week so comfortable and easy.
One thing that we did not realize from the pictures is that that the area with the four hammocks is actually a separate pavilion that overlooks the beach and has a very small pool. (Next to the pavilion is a lawn with mango trees!) This area is gorgeous.
Casa Miramar is magical spot and you will have a great week there as my family and I did!
One more thing to note: This place is perfect for anyone who has to use a walker or wheel chair as it's all on one floor and most of the areas are easily accessible.
My family (parents and adult children) just returned from 6 nights at Casa Miramar. My top priority in renting a home was that it be right on the beach, and this home fulfilled all my expectations. Our favorite part was the outdoor living area--a large veranda with table and plenty of chairs, as well as a very large stone gazebo/pavilion, both overlooking the beach and waves breaking on rocks. It was amazing to lie in the hammocks and hear the waves breaking below. And the pelicans on the rocks were constantly entertaining to watch. The beach was good for snorkeling and swimming, and there was a kayak we could paddle around in. The condition of the home and landscaping was perfect--everything well kept up and clean. Nice brick stairs leading to the beach, with pretty stonework, and a shower to rinse off in. Even a nice tree by the beach providing shade for those who wanted out of the sun. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the four bedrooms were nice (mattresses of just medium quality.) There were TVs in every bedroom, but none in the living room. We moved one TV with a DVD player into the living room so we could watch a movie together one evening.
As far as amenities go, all were provided as listed except for a computer, but we had brought our own laptop. Although not listed, there was a small hot tub-sized pool off the gazebo that we could fill with cool water as a alternate to going in the ocean. And the kayak was there, although not listed in amenities.
The activities we did away from Casa Miramar were: snorkeling at Steps Beach (very good), renting boogie boards and using them by the beach at the lighthouse, taking surfing lessons, and just enjoying many of the beaches in the area. We went out to dinner one night at Shipwrecked, which was pretty good, and went to Villa Cofresi and had their Pirates drink served in a fresh coconut. Otherwise we prepared most of our own food, and barbequed every night. We had stopped at Costco in San Juan before coming, and wished we had bought more food there. We had hoped to buy fresh fish and freshly grown island fruits at Rincon. We were never able to buy fresh fish, and there were just a few good fruits to buy from local stands.
Casa Miramar is about 3 miles from the center of town. The town had everything we needed, but didn't have particularly interesting shops to browse around in.
In summary, we all loved Casa Miramar and would recommend it to any of our friends or relatives.
