This mountain home is located on a corner lot in a private neighborhood 2 miles north of Ouray. There is a secluded patio with outdoor fire pit, shaded by Pine tress. The patio takes up much of the small back yard, but there is plenty of room in the front for kids to play! Over-sized attached 2 car garage. The original owners of this house built a small log cabin style house. A few years later they enlarged it by adding a large living room with an loft bedroom above it and a large 2 car garage with laundry and entryway. When we purchased this house in 2006, we renovated it from top to bottom, replacing the lovely 80's carpeting with wood flooring, a new kitchen and bath downstairs and a new enlarged bath upstairs, with a skylight in the large shower, allowing for a great view of the surrounding pines while showering.
When renovating, we turned the open loft bedroom over the living room into a semi-closed off bedroom by building a full height wall with double closets. There is still open space between the living room and the master bedroom, so there may be some noise that carries over. Living there, my husband and I had no problems, but if you have a large group, your experience may be different.
There is one bedroom downstairs with a full bath. Upstairs there are 2 large bedrooms, one with 2 queen beds, one with a king bed, and a large bathroom with double sinks and view shower. The living room has pullout sofa bed.
Quiet, yet close to town. Hiking trails within walking distance. An abundance of wildlife is visible regularly, birds, small animals, deer, elk, even bears!!

About Vicki Rooker
We are retired paramedics from San Francisco, resettled in the mountains to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle of city living. We had visited Ouray several times prior to our move and although the lifestyle change was 180 degrees, we have really enjoyed the quiet and slower pace of our mountains.
Vicki Rooker purchased this House in 2006
What makes this House unique
Master bedroom skylights allow views of the moon & stars as we fell asleep to the quiet with only water sounds from Corbett Creek to lull us to sleep or the occasional soft 'whump' of snow cascading off of the pine boughs in winter.

Wonderful winter getaway!
Came to Colorado for spring break with children and grandchildren. We were apprehensive of space but house was perfect from the reading nook for teenager to secret room for little ones (which needs a light). The house is roomy and comfortable. The two fireplaces and supplied firewood made for perfect evenings. We all enjoyed the outside fire pit and multiple sitting areas and large yard for children to play. The house was clean and well supplied (and I am picky). The normal few cobwebs for a rural home! Many extras are included as previously mentioned ample firewood( a big plus when traveling from out of state and country), seasonings and oils, soaps, paper towels and t-paper, ect. Lots of games and books for all. Plastic dishes and glasses for children and outside use nice. Baby gear was available in closet, high chair, crib, booster, ect. I can not say enough about the house. The only negative would be on an individual basis and that is a noise factor. The living room opens in the vaulted ceiling to the master bedroom. We worked around it and just needed to be considerate with talking and television volume. Maybe some clear plastic panels or something? The light is nice.overall a wonderful home away and great hosts, can't wait to return.
Thank you so much for the nice review...we are so glad you liked our house. It is our goal to provide guests with a place to relax. My husband will be delighted to hear you enjoyed his supply of wood. He loves to split wood, considers it a stress reliever and now he has an excuse to go split even more!
We're aware with an opening from living room to master bedroom that sounds travels between the 2 rooms. We lived there for 6 years prior to turning it into a vacation rental and soon discovered a small amount of cooperation made the sound overlap a minimal issue. In the 7 years we have been renting, most guests have come to that conclusion, as well.
Placing glass panels in that opening is on our to do list for the fall.
Again....we're very glad you enjoyed your stay!!
Beautiful cabin - so cozy!!!
Close to the hot springs or hikes. Lovely cozy cabin!!
Cozy home away
Just close enough to town, very cozy but still enough room to be by yourself. Hot springs are not very "hot".
Thank you for your nice comments. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay.
I know the Hot springs has been struggling with maintaining their temperatures. Since the renovation, it seems all sorts of older previously unknown problems have come to the forefront. It seems they are slowly making progress on equalizing the temps.
Perfect Mountain Home
My husband and our 4 kiddos LOVED this home! This home easily felt like our own home in minutes! We had an amazing time in Ouray (but that’s easy to do). The house is conveniently located close to town. We took day trips to Telluride and Purgatory (easy drives bc the roads were dry). We believe we found the perfect rental home to complete our trip in the Ouray home. The beds/linens were very comfortable. Every detail of this home was thought out to make sure guest have all they need. Most important to me was the house was very clean. We ate “at home” a ton with kiddos and the kitchen was fully stocked. Most of the time you find rentals with one old coffee pot and maybe 4 plates and random silverware. This kitchen felt like I was in my own kitchen at home - nothing was forgotten! The backyard fire pit made for enjoyable afternoons and the 2 indoor fireplaces kept the home cozy and warm. The kids LOVED the hideout room! Any negative review we read beforehand did not apply to us. The home was more than sufficient in space. We didn’t even use the downstairs bedroom. The owner was easy to contact and very accomodating. Seriously can’t recommend this home any higher! We use VRBO a ton and this is by far the best home we’ve ever rented!
Thank you very much for the kind review. That's what we aim for...for guests to feel at home. I am very glad we succeeded!
The place was great! Very quaint and homey. Was perfect for our thanksgiving gathering.
Suggest fixing the hallway and bedroom closet doors because they could not shut. Noticed some mold in downstairs and upstairs bathroom. Besides these few minor things, we say an overall 4.5 stars. Recommend highly for others to rent! Thank you sooooo much. We had a blast and location was fantastic!!
Thank you for the kind review!!! Yes the closet doors are a chronic problem. My husband and an outside handyman have repaired them numerous times. This coming spring, we plan on replacing both doors....we give up trying to get them to work properly.
I will ask my cleaning service to pay more attention to the bathrooms. The bronze fixtures, although very pretty, tends to make calcium build up and other issues more obvious.
We absolutely loved our time at your home in Ouray!! It was so comfortable. We enjoyed the location which felt like being in a cabin in the woods but we were very close to Ouray and Ridgway. It was just what we needed — to spend some family time away. We hope to return in the summer or fall.
Thank you very much for the kind review. I hope all guests have the same experience your family did.
