Built in 1919 and meticulously restored in 2011, this elegant duplex abounds with vintage style and charm. One of the first homes to be built on the block, the view of Los Feliz and the many authentic period details are not to be missed.
This listing is for the top floor (2 BR/1BA). If you need more room, see VRBO #412795 for the lower apartment, and/or VRBO #303778 for our nearby cottage.
Craftsman windows span the entire width of the building, giving you straight-arrow views of the Hollywood sign and the Observatory. The ceilings are 10 feet high with large windows in every room. The kitchen is farmhouse style, with a restored antique stove, original cabinetry, and a salvaged wood bar. The bathroom has a full size tub and plenty of space. Outside, you have your own deck with built-in benches and a small front yard that is secure and private, opening out to Griffith Park Blvd, just 2 blocks north of Sunset Junction in Silverlake.
Sunset Junction is a neighborhood hub, with Cafe Stella and Intelligentsia coffee, as well as a boutique called Driftwood, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, and the Silverlake Cheese store. Even closer is Cafe Casbah, Forage, Pazzo Gelato, Naturewell, and Vacation Vinyl records. We have the Silverlake Farmer's market once a week, right around the corner. There is a wealth of great boutiques, restaurants, and bars within an easy (slight downhill) 5 minute walk from the building.
For kids, there is Shane's Inspiration, pony rides, a carousel, the Zoo, and the Museum of the West just 2.2 miles from the building in Griffith Park.

We began restoring buildings in Silverlake in 1997, but it's been a lifelong passion. Tim has a background in set decorating and woodworking. Robin has a background in Art Direction and loves gardening. We use salvaged/eco-friendly building materials, antique furnishings, and green cleaning products whenever possible.
We have many years of experience as landlords and hosts, and are known for being responsive, service-minded, and reasonable with pricing and management.
Robin Wallace and Tim Snowber purchased this apartment in 2011
We love this part of Silver Lake because we can walk almost everywhere we need to go, but when we need to drive, the 5, 101, 110, and 134 freeways are very close by. We've always loved the trees, the architecture, and the neighborhood feel of Silver Lake.
There's an innate sense of calm in this building, maybe because it's held up for almost 100 years. We love the view, the convenience, and the proximity to the 'flow' of the city. It makes for great work and family trips. Whether you are interested in architecture, sightseeing, music, food, wine, artisan boutiques, or the outdoors, Silver Lake has all of this and more to offer... we love this building in particular because it's so central and it has great character and style.
We love this house! We had an amazing experience, and would definitely stay again. Robin is fabulous! We loved the treats & wine she had left for us. Great details, comfy bed, hospitable host, we couldn't ask for more!
We loved the house. The traffic took a little getting used to, but we quickly adapted. In easy walking distance of restaurants. Parking depended on the time of day. Beds were comfy, bathrooms adequate, nice towels, soaps, washer & dryer coin operated, but not expensive. A/C , cable tv, all the comforts you could ask for. Kitchen had all your basic needs. Coffee was a welcome sight after getting in late the first night. The house is adorable old house decorated with such pretty antiques. The view from kitchen was spectacular. Easily see the Hollywood sign. Decks & outside sitting was great. Tim & Robin were easily available for any needs & a very gracious hosts. Only suggestion would be a list of nearby places to get food & restaurants. Tried Uber & it was great experience too. Would highly recommend to stay!
Great location for Silverlake and downtown area. We enjoyed our stay in this well appointed Craftsman home. Very comfortable for 2 to 4 people. It would be a nice improvement to have a small barbeque, as the stove and broiler is an old wedgewood type gas unit. Regardless we were easily able to cook a variety of meals. The bedrooms are very comfortable as well. Parking was not a problem. Spaces opened up in the late morning and early afternoon. We are looking forward to our next stay here. We would highly recommend this property if you want to stay near downtown, but not in that hustle.
Nice home with everyday items that you need and some extras. The beds were comfortable.
Parking is very difficult, but we somehow managed to get a spot across the street (Pretty sure that's a L.A. thing). Could use some curtains in the living room for privacy.
Overall it was a nice place to stay!
Renting this place has been a great experience! The owners are professional, thoughtful and respond quickly to messages. The rental was absolutely worth it! The beds were comfy, the kitchen and bathroom was stocked with essentials to fit my family's needs. The location of the rental was unbeatable. We were nestled on a quiet street just minutes away from the Sunset strip, Chinatown, Koreatown, Downtown and Hollywood Blvd which were all relatively close, about 15 minutes. Trader Joe's and Gelson's are just a minute down the street if you want to stock up on food for the fridge. We made a few trips down to Santa Monica Pier to soak up the sun (normally a 40 min drive but traffic on the 10 can almost double that) . I enjoyed quite a few cups of coffee on the peaceful, relaxing deck of the rental. I recommend this place and would definitely stay again.
Clean, well equipped, comfortable and in a good location for us. Owners were immediately responsive to a squeaky door. We would happily stay again. For a good restaurant check out The Kitchen nearby.
Quaint Craftsman divided into a duplex; the upper level/main entry is street-side with gated access. Nicely appointed with all the amenities you need. Considerate owners who've given much thought to detail throughout the cottage. Close to restaurants & groceries, etc. Parking in the neighborhood was never a problem. Fantastic views of the Hollywood Hills & Griffith Observatory. Great home base for getting around LA.
This property is 2 blocks from Sunset Junction with all of the cafes, restaurants and boutiques, and 2 miles from Griffith Park, with hiking trails, horseback riding, the Zoo, the Observatory, the Autry Museum, Travel Town, the Carousel, and Shane's Inspiration. Loads of fun for everyone. It's also nearby Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House in Barnsdall Park, MOCA, Disney Hall, The Echo/Echoplex and all that Echo Park has to offer. Plus all of the great things Hollywood has to offer: Universal Studios, the Walk of Fame, Arclight Cinema and Amoeba Music. As well as DTLA (downtown LA): Disney Hall, Museum of Contemporary Art, the Broad Museum, newly re-furbished Cliftons restaurant and the Grand Central Markey. Lots to look forward to!
