Great view and location on Seneca lake with beach and dock. Well-equipped kitchen. .Lots of bedrooms. Grill on beach. Minor issues-bad fuse, minimal AC, leaky sink. Bring your own boat!
The cottage was very clean and nice except there was absolutely no air condition upstairs and it was unbearable! We had to go out and purchase fans. Also one of our children had to work a couple of the days and you advertised wifi ad it truly was not wifi, so another purchase had to be made. I think you need to explain more clearly your accomodations. thank you gloria decker.
Very much enjoyed this house for our family vacation! Owners were very accommodating to our needs. House was perfect for our extended family with several young children. Location close to Geneva, wineries, etc. Swimming was easy with beach entry and dock. (It's rocky but that's expected for a lake in NY) Train wasn't an issue and none of the kids woke when it passed, in fact daytime trains were pretty exciting for kids. Bedrooms are roomy and the sleeper porch can definitely be a very large 5th bedroom. Kitchen is completely stocked with everything you will need which was a nice surprise. We really didn't need to bring anything but clothes and food! If we do this trip again, we will stay in this house again!
This cottage had everything we were generally looking for in a Finger Lakes destination: lake side property, close to things to do, full amenities, etc. It was comfortable and wonderful to wake up hearing the lapping water and seeing the sun emerge from the east side of the lake. We'll have nice memories of our first family vacation here. The owner is very clear about what is not included (w/d, towels) but we thought it was important to point out a few details around the amenities. These were not problems for us, but may be dealbreakers for others:
1) Train: The train tracks themselves don't pose a problem - they are no more than 50 feet from the house. But unless you want to go out for a run/bike along the main road, there was no you would be walking over them for any reason. The train, however, is another story. The owner wasn't sure what the schedule was but we paid careful attention to it during our stay. We stayed in mid-August and suspect this is the general schedule. From Sunday through Thursday night, a freight train passes by the house between 9 - 9:30 PM. The Sunday night train was super long but all others were shorter. Another, shorter, train then passes around 11:30 PM. Horns do not blow but the tracks are close enough to the house that you will hear it for sure unless you're a good sleeper (our 18 month son slept through most of the pass throughs).
Internet: Internet service is very slow. There is also a note/request at the house that internet usage is limited to email. Since that was not a solution for us since we had to do work while there, we had to use our mobile hot spot for reliable service. The hot spot worked fine so if you plan to be online to do more than check quick emails, be sure to have one.
Lake swimming: It is wonderfully refreshing and nice to have close, but bring swim shoes if you have them. The entry into the lake is extremely rocky and there are many small, tiny shell pieces along the ground. You can't really see these shells or feel them amidst the rockiness. I swam about 1000 yds between two of the docks. When I came out, I noticed lots of tiny paper-like cuts along my hands & feet. After further inspection, we saw the plantlife have these small shells along them. You cannot actually feel them when you get cut, but they sting once you are out. I would not recommend young children going in unless they had water shoes and close supervision.
We loved the home!
Chatted with the owners..... Quaint, charming, like "great Grandma's house".
Due to elderly parents, the beautiful claw foot tub, however, was not to be used by them - too deep to get in and out of.
We noticed septic tank odors towards end of trip .... even though we used the provided toilet tissue :(.
Lake was beautiful.... kitchen was cozy for the aunts.
Outdoor grill + fire pit + dock was WELL USED!!!!
Nearby town of Geneva was cute... but we all had too much fun at the lake and rarely went in to visit.
Cant wait to return!!!
House is very quaint. Views were awesome. Could swim right from shore. If you have young children definitely recommend the Splash Pad in Geneva at Seneca National Park. Only about 15 minutes from house. Owners are very nice and checked in with us prior to our vacation starting.
