Our stay at Cayman Sands was everything I could dream of in a vacation and more!
They have thought of (almost, see below) everything right down to the tiniest detail! The house is gorgeous! I had my doubts about the screened-in atrium but when the sun starts to set, the bugs come out (bring bug spray) we were so happy to be able to still enjoy the sunset and sound of the waves while not getting eaten alive! We kept looking for the hammock(s) outside the house, we finally found them in the storage closet but they were super-easy to set-up in the gazebo and let me tell you, several naps were taken there!
Throughout planning this trip all the way through to our stay, the management company (Grand Cayman Rentals), the owner, and the local property representative have been so incredibly helpful! On our first day there was a lot of seaweed and trash on the direct beach front (not the private part of the beach directly behind the house which we loved and played a lot of bocce ball on!) I sent an email to Jim at Grand Cayman Villas and copied the local rep and owner just to be on the safe side and they sent someone out to rake it, now THAT is service!
I loved that someone went to the effort of using a label-maker to mark what each light switch does, there are a lot of them and, while it's a small detail, it just shows the thought they've put in to aleaving every ounce of stress.
My only recommendations (not to be confused with complaints) would be:
- put some caution tape on the front-entry stairs because the first step leading to the drive is very hard to see (the ceramic tile is white, the gravel is white, and it's right as you walk out) sadly I fell and sprained my ankle on our 2nd day, it slowed me down quite a bit but I didn't let it stop me entirely! See comments about insurance.
- the curtain rods and sconces should be anchored to the wall. As you gradually move the drapes open and close over time, the rods slide back and forth and unfortunately you don't realize it until one slips and hits you smack-dab on the bridge of the nose.
- The White House was one of the best meals of my life! This is where we are on my 40th birthday (the reason for our trip) and the service, the food, the staff, the atmosphere; everything about it was like something out of a dream!
We have been renting from the property agent for years. We rented Cayman Sands last year with friends, and we promptly booked it again for this year. The trip did not disappoint. The location was and is fantastic. It is not nearby the busy areas, which is exactly what we wanted. It is within convenient driving distance to a couple of smaller grocery stores, Rum Point, and a liquor store. If you enjoy cooking, as I do, then you will find the kitchen well-appointed with the ocean and pool area visible due to the open floor plan. The two suites on either side of the property provide quite a bit of privacy, and the ceramic-tile patio or sun deck extends along the entire ocean-facing side of the property, so each suite has a nice small sitting area outside french doors. The private beach is nice, as is the screened-in pool area. We particularly enjoyed watching sunsets from the gazebo. We'll be back.
We had a wonderful time at Cayman Sands! We were visiting family on the island and everyone agreed it worked beautifully for us. The floor plan was wonderful. I really appreciated that everything was on one floor. The covered pool allowed us to enjoy the outdoors without the mosquitos. It felt like home. It had everything you could possibly need in the kitchen and wonderful towels and beautiful bed rooms. It was clean and the owner and manager were wonderful to work with. The whole process was easy and all of my questions were answered quickly. It was very comfortable and close to wonderful snorkeling and diving. We will definitely stay again on our next visit to the island!
We rented this house originally to have a few friends get together for a 50th birthday celebration, but after a surprise engagement decided to get married there. The home was a perfect spot for the wedding! It is located such that we had all the privacy needed, and as much space as well. The home is decorated so tastefully and stocked with everything a family could need! The cottage was a perfect addition for the in-laws. This house is well maintained, and managed to perfection. From the moment we rented the home and during our visit, help was only a call away if needed.
We plan on visiting Grand Cayman again one day with the hopes of Cayman Sand being open for our use again!
The house is absolutely gorgeous and well equipped. The cottage was a nice added touch because we brought a babysitter with us. The beach was perfect. It is great for a family vacation however you need a car because it is remote. It's about 35 to 40 minutes from Georgetown but we enjoyed the adventure of driving around the island. There is a gas station nearby and a small grocery and liquor store about ten minutes away. We ate in Georgetown one night only because of the long drive, however there are a couple of nearby restaurants that were delicious. We had a toddler so we did have to make sure that the door to the pool was always locked. We also made sure that there was a bar to stop the door from opening if he unlocked the door. We put a chair in front of the front door at night (just being over cautious). The local phone did not work very well but we had our cell phones so we were fine. The house and yard were very spacious and we would definitely go back.
4 generation family of 10 people (10-84 yrs.) stayed here for a week. We came from Alaska & WI. We loved this home, it's layout was perfect. The common area was large enough for us to have meals & fun, but yet the bedrooms afforded families to escape for privacy (& own bathrooms). The View...couldn't ask for better! Only one house next door, but we felt we had the whole beach to ourselves. The atrium pool area was nice for keeping bugs out. We paid for pool heat, but still very cold. My 84 yr. old mother-in-law was looking forward to swimming there, but to cold. It barely got used. My husband & I rented the cottage, very cute. Don't use the shower at night, we are assuming that is what kept setting off the smoke alarm to beep every 20 seconds. Take your shower in the cottage during the day. The main house kitchen has everything, large table for meals & cards. We had groceries delivered from Kirk Market (great service). Unfortunately we experienced some bad weather late in the week. Rain was coming in the seaside doors from the weather seal, we were moping a lot. The owner himself called and apologized & was getting it fixed after we left. Things unexpectedly can happen even in paradise. The good things outweigh the few incidents. We loved our stay with the whole family and we would return or recommend Cayman Sands.
With a central location on the island…the homes in Old Man Bay offer perhaps the best shore diving and snorkeling on the entire island. The beaches are mostly sand, but also can be have some natural rock formations too. Either way, with the varied marine life we have in the water, you will want to wear foot protection (pool shoes or fins). The beaches here offer great seashell collecting and turtle sightings in summer! Old Man Bay is only 5 minutes from (2) large resorts in the east end (www.morritts.com and www.thereef.com ) that offer manicured beaches as well as restaurants, a modern grocery store, liquor store, gift shops, SUBWAY sandwich shop (and even a Coffee/pastry shop!). Heading west, "Kurt's Korner" is a local restaurant within walking distance; and then "Over the Edge" restaurant is about one mile away. They serve breakfast, lunch AND dinner and offer a varied menu that offers a value choice. These two resorts also offer scuba, snorkel trips, jet skis, windsurfers, kiteboarding, ocean front pools and bar service. You are also only 5-10 minutes to the best SCUBA diving operations/dive sites on the entire island. www.oceanfrontiers.com and www.tortugadivers.com are two of the best. About 15 minutes to the west of Old Man Bay is the famous Rum Point Club…with watersports, restaurant, bar, gift shop, grill and a barefoot beach with table service. Here is where the catamaran departs for stingray sandbar/snorkeling tours.
