We live in California, but I grew up in Michigan. Every year we escape with our family to our wonderful secret place, Burt Lake.
Geoffrey or Barbara Engel purchased this cottage in 2011
My parents lived near Burt Lake for 40 years and it is my perfect place for relaxation. We hope to live here part time in a few years.
For runners the 5 mile Indian Trail Road loop is a great route.
This is a lovely, updated cottage on Burt Lake with a gorgeous lake view. The kitchen/bathrooms were the best equipped of any place we have ever rented and it was very nice to have a garage in which to park our car and bikes. We used it as a base camp for exploring Northern Michigan and it was great to come back to it at the end of a long day. We will rent again if we are ever back in this vicinity!
The home was all it was described to be. Clean, comfortable, spacious. Everything we needed and more was provided. Wonderful view of the lake. We would certainly recommend this rental and gladly return.
This was a great family vacation! Absolutely beautiful! The view was amazing and we loved having bonfire every night. We will be booking this house every summer for years to come! Thank you!
We just spent a long weekend at this home and it was fantastic! The house had everything we needed and was clean & comfortable. The remodeling work that was done is top notch - we really enjoyed the open kitchen and remodeled full bath. You cannot beat the view of the lake! The location was great - easy & quick trip to Mackinaw. Overall it was everything the property description promised & more. You can tell that the property owners take great care to provide the best rental experience. We've rented quite a few homes and this is easily one of the best experiences we've had. Thank you Barb!
My idea of a cottage is an old, musky and well-worn place, where you have to listen to a squeaky old screen door that doesn't quite close. Where mosquitos follow you indoors and outdoors. This is anything but a cottage. It is a private get-away. A retreat. A place where you can watch the sunrise, skip stones and have a private campfire.
We used this as our base, which is only 20 minutes from the "Mighty Mac." While there we visited the Soo Locks, Tahquamenon Falls, Sleepy Bear Dunes, Mackinaw City, and Mackinac Island. The only reason we would not recommend this place is because we want to go next year and don't want the competition.
I honestly cannot believe there were any negative reviews of this property. Every room in this cottage has been re-done and it far exceeded our expectations. The great room/kitchen area is wonderful, with beautiful windows overlooking the picture-perfect lake. The lake is beautiful, albeit choppy on a windy day, and the water is clear. While there isn't a beach on the property, the water is very shallow off the end of the dock, which made it a perfect swimming spot for my 6 year old. (The Burt Lake State Park also offers a great sandy beach and is only a 20 min boat ride away.) We enjoyed boating every day on Burt Lake and the Indian River, as well as biking on the tree lined street running along the lake. The property was VERY clean and well-maintained and we had everything we needed to make our stay fun and enjoyable! Watch out for the friendly resident chipmunk, though, he made off and up a tree with 3/4ths of a chocolate bar we were hoping to use for s'mores...the little bugger! :)
