Everything was just as promised. The owner was very good at communicating with us, the guards at the entrance were very helpful, the apartment was beautiful with an absolutely beautiful view, and there was everything you needed in the apartment (air conditioner, washer/dryer, television, internet, etc.). The penthouse apartment is relatively small, but perfect for a couple. The bed looks out large wall-to-ceiling windows at the ocean. It was absolutely wonderful sight to wake up to. If you want to sleep later you can lower the window blinds and it lets in absolutely no light until you open them and see the beautiful view.
As long as you are stocked on groceries and brought your bathing suit, you won't need anything else. There are a number of good restaurants nearby and the ferry for Isla Mujeres is a short walk from the entrance, cost us $146 pesos round trip per person, and was very much worth the trip. Walking past the ferry terminal we found a wonderful restaurant on the left side of the street called Kiosko Verde Marisqueria. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is absolutely fantastic and relatively inexpensive. They have a craft beer brown ale made exclusively for the restaurant which was one of the best I have tried anywhere. The Ostiones a la Parilla (oysters on the grill) was amazing and their guacamole is fantastic as well.
We would return again if we were heading to Cancún. A very pleasant experience, especially if you are looking for something more private than a crowded resort or hotel. Cook food, make a picnic, or go out to eat, enjoy a huge pool almost completely to yourself, and relax with your significant other.
Thank you, Andreas.
The unit was equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay the pictures accurately represent the property.
The grounds, gym and pool areas are well maintained and spotless.
The owner Andreas did everything to ensure our stay was incident free, he continuously followed up to ensure everything was satisfactory and there was nothing we needed.
Groceries are a short taxi ride and while there is a washer/dryer in the unit laundry service is the best deal in Mexico and is a short walk to the south.
Heading north there are plenty of nice restaurants and the El Meco ruins are only a 45 minute walk.
If you're not a walker colectivo buses are 8 pesos and go north to Punta Sam, buses south to the hotel zone are across the street and are 10 pesos.
Only a two minute walk to the Ultramar Ferry to Isla Mujeres.
We took several side trips to Playa del Carmen, Merida and Progresso the ADO intercity bus is a short ride on the Hotel Zone bus or 40 peso taxi fare.
Hopefully we'll return to Cancun and will stay with Andreas at the Amara 1 BPH2.
I spent 2 weeks in this cozy condo and as a solo traveler felt very safe. The unit has everything you need and is very comfortable. Having wifi, Netflix and a washer/dryer in the suite is a bonus. The grounds and the large pool are awesome. The property is away from all the noise of the Hotel Zone and downtown but you can easily get to either by bus. You can also walk about 5 minutes to the ferry that goes to Isla Mujeres. New owners have taken over the onsite outdoor restaurant and it was just starting to reopen (with limited selections) just before I left but what I did try was very good and reasonably priced. There are several other restaurants within walking distance of the complex that are very good.
Andreas (the owner) was a delight to work with. He made the reservation and check in/out processes so easy and answered all of my questions immediately. He was also in touch a couple of times during my stay to make sure everything was fine.
Overall I would recommend this unit and the Amara to those who enjoy a quiet place to stay.
Amara has a fabulous pool and grounds. It was wonderful to go to sleep and wake up to the spectacular view from the condo. We appreciated the use of the WIFI and Netflix. It was great to have the washer/dryer combination although somewhat challenging trying to figure out how to use it as everything was in Spanish. We found counter space in the kitchen and bathroom was quite limited and the bathroom lighting was very poor. The owner (Andreas) was easy to reach by email and very responsive to our concerns (A patio door would not open and the refrigerator stopped working). Andreas had service people correct both issues within hours of our emails.
The condo is a bit isolated however the ferry to Isla Mujeres is only a 5 minute walk from Amara, a visit to the beach at Playa Norte is a must. We enjoyed quite a few meals in the ‘El Kiosko verde’ restaurant – it is on the left about 150 metres past the ferry entrance.
We used Canada Transfers for a ride to and from the airport, very reasonable price ($55 round trip for 2 adults) great service, they even accept payment in Canadian dollars at par!
We absolutely LOVED the Amara and this beautiful condo. The condo itself was very nicely furnished, beautifully clean and with an absolutely fabulous view. There's nothing like waking up to beautiful sunrises over the sea every morning.
The Amara property itself is very nicely landscaped, the large pool is excellent and there's a great little restaurant on the property that serves a small, but good, selection of food and some great drinks. Everyone at the Amara was so friendly and helpful.
The property is a little north of the main hotel district, which suited us just fine. There were all sorts of little Mexican restaurants just a few minutes walk from the Amara (either North or South) that served great food. Everything from El Pastor tacos to fresh ceviche.
The best thing is that you're only about a 5 minute walk from the ferry to Isla Mujeres, which was the highlight of our vacation. We spent three full days on Isla Mujeres and still couldn't get enough of it. We'd go over early in the morning and come back late a night. There so much to do on Isla and the beaches are just fabulous. The condo at the Amara was a great home base for going to Isla and going in to the Centro for some more great food (it's all about the food).
Thank you for sharing your lovely condo with us! We look forward to returning.
Beautiful little apartment with a great view of the grounds, pool, and ocean! We absolutely loved waking up every morning and seeing the ocean just past our toes! :)
Sitting by the pool for a lazy day swimming and watching the ocean was wonderful. No crowds, and you never get bugged by vendors walking up the beach. We enjoyed the quiet with just a few other guests to talk to, but if you WANT the Vegas-style craziness of the Hotel Zone, I'd recommend staying down there instead.
Also, the little palapa restaurant had excellent food and drinks for very reasonable prices. And the staff was super friendly and helpful!
Andreas, the apartment owner, also kept in touch by email to make sure everything went well with our vacation.
The only problem we had was that the apartment has no phone, nor is there one available on the grounds. This made it very difficult to make/confirm reservations for restaurants and tours. I'd highly suggest the owner set up a local phone even if it is a cheap VOiP through the internet.
Overall, I highly recommend staying here! You can't beat the view and the amazing pool for the price!
Isla Mujeres day trip
A trip to Isla Mujeres can be as active or as relaxing as you'd like. If relaxation is what you are looking for, turn to the left, after you get off the ferry and are out on the street. Make a beeline for Playa Norte (North Beach) and plant yourself on the beach. There, you will find some beach clubs, which have lounge chairs and serve food and beverages, but there are also restaurants that will let you use their tables and chairs, on the beach, as long as you are ordering food and drinks. Order a bucket of cervezas and just sit back, with your toes in the sand, and enjoy the view. The sunsets on North Beach are breathtakingly beautiful...and the view is pretty awesome the rest of the day too.
For explorer golf cart is the best way to navigate the island in 1 hour !
