About Bernie Eglington

I live in the UK but travel widely. I currently live in there North East in a small town called Guisborough which has the ruin of an 11th century Priory. The town is surrounded by forest, is on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and we are very close to unspoilt beaches edging the North Sea. My favourite destination is Florida with it's diverse culture and theme parks. I love Harry Potter and Universal's Harry Potter World is just awesome. I am a dog lover having, until last year, a beautiful Golden Retriever as my best friend.

Bernie Eglington purchased this villa in 2000

Why Bernie Eglington chose Kissimmee

I first visited Orlando in 1990 and was so taken with it that I kept coming back. When I discovered the Indian Point development I could not resist buying this property. I was sure others would want to share the joy, and I was right. I have been successfully renting this property since 2000.

To keep up my very high standards I remodelled the villa in the last few months and hope that guests will be as pleased with it as I am.

What makes this villa unique

This villa is on the edge of Indian Point giving easy access to US 192 and all amenities, Theme Parks and Attractions. As a family home I have made it as comfortable and welcoming as possible because, whilst everyone will want to be out and about with all the activities on offer, sometimes staying in and relaxing is essential. I should warn you that it will be difficult to drag yourselves away from the ultra-comfortable seats in front of the awesome ULTRA HD TV. In case you think there will be nothing to watch, we have ultra HD films to watch as well!

Very disappointing stay!

  • 1 of 5

Unfortunately, we have bad feelings about this rental, but want to fairly present both the good the bad and the ugly. First the good: the unit has a nice interior with large rooms, great layout and comfy living room furniture. It is conveniently located 20 minutes from Disney and close to many restaurants and shops.

Now for the bad: If you are looking for an upscale “palm tree/manicured lawn” neighborhood, you will not be happy with this unit. It is located about 2 miles off of Route 192, in an older, “back woods” type development, bordered by a trailer park. The nearby stretch of Rte. 192 is dotted with “$40 a night” motels, seedy flea markets and discount gift shops. The whole scenario, including the development and surrounding community certainly does not give you a “fabulously lavish” feeling, as described in the unit’s Home Away ad.

In addition to the area, the home itself also had problems: the AC Unit constantly kicked off on its own and temperatures inside often neared 80 degrees. The showers had lukewarm water,

the beds in two of the bedrooms were EXTREMELY uncomfortable(several of us had to sleep on the couch), the rear of house and back fence had green algae (or mold) stains all over, we were unable to open the sliding glass doors and there was no safety handrail bar to step into the pool.

Now for the ugly: the neighbors on both sides, who appeared to be permanent residents, were loud and inconsiderate. On one side, they spent most of the week cutting down trees with chainsaws from 8am to 10pm. The noise was unbearable and forced us to leave the house most days. We would come home to sleep and then get jolted out of bed at 8am. Finally, the neighbors on the other side partied loudly well into the middle of the night…one evening we politely asked them to be quiet at about 2am and were ignored.

When we alerted the Property Manger and Owner of these issues, there was no response from either of them. Two days later, we received an email from the owner, stating that we would receive a 35% refund of the amount we paid to rent this unit. We did appreciate his gesture. However, given the fact that we suffered so many inconveniences, the house was practically uninhabitable at times and our vacation was basically ruined, a far greater refund would have certainly been in order!

Owner's Response: It is always disappointing when guests put issues in the review that they did not mention to myself or my management team. It is also disappointing when guests say there was no response from either myself or the management team when we did respond. But I leave the reader to imagine being in Florida at 10 pm in the dark chopping down trees with a chainsaw. Please do not try this at home.

Weekend at Bernie's

  • 4 of 5

The house was great. It had a lot of space to accommodate my party of 7. Nice open floor plan clean and the pool was awesome. There are a few things that I would suggest. First I would update the blind system on the windows. The microwave did not want to work and the dishwasher did not work. It had stale water all end the bottom of it which lead to some odor. But contacted the people suggested in the book and all was resolved. The big issue is that going out to the pool someone had reglued the trim piece and when it got wet it proceeded to come up. Those are the only things that caught our attention. I would highly recommend this house Bernie has a good taste of furnishings and his home again was awesome to stay at. It was only 10 minutes or so to Disney World depending on traffic. For all who read this don't think twice get this home if it is available you will not regret it.

Very nice - Recommended!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here 6 nights in April 2017. The house was very nice, clean, spacious and centrally located to both Disney and Universal. It suited our family of 6 (3 adults, 3 teens) perfectly. A couple of minor problems arose during our stay but they were satisfactorily handled by the management quickly. We stayed during Easter Week, one of the busiest times of the year, so there was a lot of traffic getting to the parks - especially Universal, but we expected that. During less busy times it should take about 20-30 minutes to Disney and about 30 minutes to Universal. We recommend this house!

Peaceful, well-kept and clean villa.

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time relaxing in the villa and spending most of our day on the veranda and in the pool. Area is very quiet, safe, and located near several restaurants. We had an exceptional vacation.

Amazing Home

  • 5 of 5

After a 17 hour ride from NY finally seeing the house was a great feeling we were not disappointed the house is beautiful and very well kept, Access to the property was both easy and quick, The owner is very responsive to questions and I can only assume just as responsive to any issues although that is an assumption only because we had NO issues, The pool was very refreshing after a long day out and about. We hated having to leave to come back home. We will Definitely be contacting Bernie for our next trip to Florida. The whole family enjoyed our stay, Its a very Quiet neighborhood and close to everything, No more than 10-20 min to Disney and Sea world. 1Hr and 20 min to Daytona Beach. If you are looking for an affordable beautiful house to enjoy your vacation look no further this is the house I cannot recommend it enough. You will not be disappointed. Thank You Bernie for making the process so easy and allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind comments. I try very hard to make booking and holidaying as easy as possible. I also aim to achieve high quality for what I offer. When things occasionally go wrong I try extra hard to put them right. In this case things were good and I am pleased for the renter. Bernie

Wonderful vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Bernie's Kississimme home. Very centrally located to the attractions but in a quiet neighborhood. House was very clean with a well stocked (pots, pans, dishes) kitchen for cooking. We took our entire family - 6 adults and 2 grandchildren. Plenty of room. We loved the pool. I highly recommend this home for your stay in the Orlando area. We will try to stay again the next time we are in Kississimme.
