This unique log cabin is nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains along the shores of Riffe Lake. The previous owner custom built this cozy getaway cabin using timbers and rock found right here within the Mossyrock valley. Your family will enjoy relaxing around the handcrafted rock fireplace which stretches to the vaulted ceilings, eating meals at the breakfast bar, large wooden dining room table, or on the deck over looking the lake. Sleep in one of the two bedrooms each with its own unique design, or in the loft. Kids will enjoy an exciting game of air hockey upstairs in the family room surrounded with skylights and windows. The fully furnished kitchen is equipped with a Jenn Air stove-great for indoor grilling, plenty of counter space and a favorite place for enjoying conversations with family and friends. A full sized washer and dryer is included. Enjoy roasting marshmallows or hot dogs around the fire pit with the lake in the back ground. There is plenty of lush green lawn to play bocce ball or croquet or just watch deer nibble from the fruit trees. Whether visiting while the oak trees are aflame with vibrant autumn colors or just enjoying the lazy days of summer on the lake, you will be surrounded by nature's beauty.
You will find a wide range of recreational activities in the area -- fishing either on Riffe Lake (boat access is only 10 minutes away at Mossyrock Park) or just walk half a block to Swafford Pond (great for kids of all ages), hiking up to a nearby falls, boating , jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking on the lake or just relaxing and taking in the spectacular view.
Beautiful places to see in the area include Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helen's National Park, Apes Cave underground lava tubes, and Gifford-Pinchot National Forest. Don't forget seasonal White Pass Ski Resort or rent inner-tubes at Paradise(located at the south end of Mt. Rainier). During the summer, enjoy the Mossyrock Blueberry Festival, Morton's Lumberjack Weekend, Mineral's Jazz Festival, and much more.

My wife and I live in Seattle. We vacation at this house in the winter and summer with our four children aged 16, 14, 12 and 10.
Paul or Judy Guion purchased this house in 2009
This house was so stunning when we first walked into it. The Riffe Lake area is beautiful and has so many things to do.
We love to sit in front of the fireplace in the winter and talk for hours with our family and friends. We also have fun playing cards at the large table with the whole family. We also enjoy bundling up during the winter and taking walks around Swafford pond. During the summer, we also like to eat out on the deck with the family while looking out at Riffe Lake and Mt Rainier. The fire pit is also fun to sit around and roast marshmellows.
My family and I had the opportunity to stay at this beautiful log cabin for Christmas. It was an amazing atmosphere, full of peace and joy, perfect for any occasion. Since, we arrived we noticed how clean and organized this home is. I personally loved it! There was absolutely nothing lacking in this cabin. It is fully equipped to cook, bake, relax and to play (children friendly). I am so thankful for the favor and flexibility that the owners offered us. I recommend anybody and invite whoever is seeking a quite, cozy and peaceful getaway.
We didn't want to go far from our home and we wanted a lake for fishing. This property fit the bill for us...access to two lakes close by! One day was sunny and we stayed out on the lake all day. Had a wonderful time. The other day was rainy and we were so glad for the pool table and the air hockey. Made it a really fun time, rain or not. The accommodations were a little large for two people, but perfect for a family. Nice kitchen. Serviceable bedrooms. One bath. No internet or cable. Bring some DVDs and say good bye to work for awhile.
The owners of the property was so nice and easy to deal with from the start. We wanted to visit Riffe lake as my wife went fishing there for many years with her dad, and a couple weeks ago he passed away. I wanted to take her back to the lake with our kids, but I really didn't want to stay in a motel in another city. I contacted the owners about the property just 2 days before the weekend that we wanted to use the home and they went out of their way to make sure we could use their house the following weekend.
We arrived at the home on Friday around 3pm, and the immediate feel of the property was very homie. The home was a log cabin in the woods on a fishing lake, but had a very high end feel to the property which is what I was hoping for. The fireplace was the hit of the stay, and all I can say is the pictures don't do it justice. The fireplace was massive!! The cabin was very neat and clean, plus came fully equipped with nice appliances throughout. There was a large wood shed outside that we took some wood for the fireplace. The bonus room was perfect for our kids. There was a pool table, air hockey table, and a ping pong table that went over the pool table. There was also a small TV with some movies for the kids upstairs but between the bonus room, board games, and just hanging out the TV only got turned on for a few minutes the entire weekend.
The only downfall with the entire stay was not being able to bring our Boston Terrier, but we knew this going in to the rental. The plus side was the neighborhood golden retriever that you will hear about on other reviews. I saw the pup on Saturday morning when I went for a walk. The dog came down off the neighbors porch to see me, and didn't leave my side the entire walk. He made sure to bring his tennis ball with him everywhere he went. When I came back to the cabin I had my kids come out to see him. The kids and the dog played right away and named him Stan since we didn't know his name. After Saturday morning "Stan" would be hanging out with us the rest of the weekend wherever we went. We found out when the trip was over that his real name is Rusty, but I'm sure if you called him Stan he would come!
All in all this was a great trip, and we already have plans on staying there more this year.
My husband, son and our two friends stayed at this amazing home for our Christmas vacation. The owner Judy from the start of the rental process was the kindest, helpful and did everything in a timely manner. All of us were in awe of the beauty and homey feel of this home. The home was beautifully decorated for Christmas (with clear lights) my favorite when we arrived. The home was clean and warm upon our arrival. We were also greeted by the neighborhood welcoming committee (Golden Retriever). We all had the most relaxing time and enjoyed the beauty as well as the local folks in Mossy Rock. We will be renting this home again in the future!!!!! Thank you to the owners of this home Judy and Paul
All the comforts of home, all you need to bring is food and yourself. Loaded with charm, great location we had nightly visits by deer as we sat but the outdoor fire pit. Our only want was a king bed because we are spoiled that way. We hope to return next summer if possible as we had a nice stay. Chowderhouse.
Peace and quiet. It's a hard-to-find commodity in the world these days. If you're looking for that very thing, you'll love your stay at this cabin. Although my family and I did take a few day trips to see Mt Rainier and Mt. St. Helens (which was amazing!), we were also completely content to spend time in this lovely setting, playing ping pong in the game room, backgammon in front of the fireplace, and enjoying our time together. The blueberries in the back yard were ripe and the kitchen was equipped with everything I needed to prepare fresh blueberry pancakes every morning. The doe and fawn that visited everyday didn't mind sharing the yard or the view of the lake and Mt Rainier in the background (although the mosquitos were less hospitable). The cabin was clean and well maintained. The photos are accurate, but don't do justice to the beautiful great room. There were plenty of towels; the beds were comfortable. Don't hesitate.
