Overview

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, Sleeps 4

Rustic luxury with attention to detail. Eva's Cottage is comfortable and cozy, with many thoughtful touches like the down comforter and pillows on the queen-size, custom-built log bed (truly one of a kind!), and travertine/river rock shower. Relax by the massive stone, wood-burning fireplace, or in the hot tub just outside the greatroom. With wireless internet, internet TV and landline, you'll be as connected as you want, or need to be. This one-bedroom, one-bath, cottage is perfect for a couple or a solo visitor. Alternate lifestyle- and dog-friendly.

From the greatroom, antique casement windows overlook the wraparound porch. The nook is a quiet, serene spot for reading or sleeping, and the kitchen is completely furnished to accommodate serious cooks, as well as those seeking a vacation from cooking.

In the well-stocked kitchen you'll find a programmable drip coffee maker, coffee filters, coffee grinder, a French Press, a Keurig, microwave, toaster oven, electric water kettle, placemats, cloth napkins, tea towels and a British hotel teapot with a copper cozy. All this is in addition to a full set of cookware, flatware, glasses, gas grill dinnerware for four, and full-size appliances. Amenities at Eva's Cottage also include toiletries, firewood, and dog towels/cleanup kit (your pooch is welcome for a small nightly fee).

If you need entertainment beyond watching the deer grazing nearby, you'll find internet TV (there is no other TV reception; the trees are so large they block line of sight to satellites) in greatroom, a TV/DVD/stereo in the bedroom, lots of games and books. Read about the fascinating woman who created this little slice of heaven which bears her name!

Eva's Cottage sits just a few steps from our sandy beach, down a sloping path. It is an idyllic location with many eagles, heron, hawks, and deer, a large 20' deep swimming hole and year-round waterfall. The land surrounding the Cottage and across the river is private and protected. The temperate climate is never too hot or too cold. [Note: beach is shared by residents of nearby home, but they are quiet and respectful of our guests. Please note also that beach fires and fishing from the beach are not allowed (there is great fishing just 1/2 mile downriver, on the other side of the Salmon Falls bridge).]

This 28.5 acre retreat includes a large and rare stand of old-growth Douglas fir, Western cedar, hemlock and maple; some of which are estimated to be more than 300 years old. Eva's descendants steward the land and maintain the forest with an eye to future generations' enjoyment. You'll have access to four trails along the property, so be sure to bring your hiking boots!

A good supermarket, drugstore, and other services are about 14 miles away in the town of Washougal. The location provides easy, year-round access to hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and more. The Washougal is one of only two completely unpolluted rivers in the region. It offers fine fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking as it flows into the mighty Columbia River just a few miles to the south. All manner of outdoor activities are close by, yet the setting itself is secluded and free from the noise and distractions of everyday life.

About Vacasa, WA - Columbia Gorge Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

Indescribable

 • 5 of 5

I could say a million things to describe the view and location and even the beautiful scenery on the drive there but nothing I say would do It justice. You really have to see it for yourself. I suggest maybe brining your own DVD player if you’re wanting to watch a movie because the one provided didn’t work well. Other than that MINOR complaint I have nothing bad to say about our stay. My boyfriend and I hadn’t seen eachother in years (he’s in the military) and this was such a perfect place for us to spend some time together. I’m so happy it didn’t rain one day because we got to use the hot tub which was also amazing. I HIGHLY recommend this beautiful cottage. I’m having withdrawals from it now!

Cozy and secluded getaway with amazing river and forest views

 • 5 of 5

Eva's Cottage was a perfect location for our anniversary getaway. It was secluded and cozy and the views and sounds of the river were amazing. Our dog loved the hiking trails all around the property, and we sure enjoyed the hot tub after our long days of exploring the area. We would love to be able to stay again during warmer weather when we can enjoy the swimming hole and "beach". Overall a perfect romantic getaway.

A gem on the river

 • 5 of 5

I loved listening to the roaring river from the cottage! This place is a total gem and offers something wonderful no matter the season. I would absolutely stay here again.

Eagles Nest

 • 5 of 5

The name could be Eagles Nest as we watched three male and one female Bald Eagle fly around and land in the trees and on the beach for about a half hour one morning. It is a beautiful cabin in a beautiful setting.

Spiders, dust, and cobwebs...

 • 1 of 5

As the title says, we ran into (quite literally) all three in almost every corner of this cabin. Outside was pretty understandable for a cabin "in the woods." However the amount of live and dead spiders through out the cabin shows the complete neglect and poorly cleaned state of the cabin. A few spiders here and there would have been dismissed as it being a cabin in the woods, but dust covered cobwebs on the ceilings, light fixtures(both ceiling and eye level bathroom fixture) bed frame, and side table lights shows this location is seriously lacking in a professional cleaning company that cares to put the work in. We read some reviews from previous guests about spider webs and dust but thought maybe it was people just being picky. We shouldn't have dismissed it. We booked 3 nights to unwind from a roadtrip honeymoon. We didn't stay for our third night and actually packed our belongings and left at 11pm at night and drove the 3.5 hours home. My wife saw a spider on the back part of the bed frame that she wanted me to squish, she shined a flashlight on it so I could see better and noticed the astonishing amount of old and new cobwebs behind the bed. After seeing it we couldn't bring our selves to stay one more night.
Our entire stay was killing spiders, wiping cobwebs from lights and corners, and picking up old dead bugs. Not to mention you could see the history of squished spiders on the walls and ceilings (we know because we killed a few crawling up the walls next to us and left a similar dirt mark, which we cleaned up) but the marks still there from previous guests shows it's an ongoing issue.
The cabin itself was nice, comfortable, and secluded (sort of, the lodge is very close) and the river was very calming and added to the cabin feel, but that faded away into our first whole day there after the feeling of spiders being on you. The hotub was relaxing, but it's lacking a rack for the lid so you'll have to put it on the ground and lift it back up every time you use it.

Owner's Response: We apologize if this stay was not as perfect as we would have wished. The home has been deep cleaned, and pest control has sprayed for bugs and set bait and traps for mice.
