Pollclabber Cottage is set in a quiet rural idyll, close to Doolin and Lisdoonvarna, yet only three miles from the wild Atlantic Ocean. Both small towns are home to Irish traditional music. There are magnificent walks straight from the cottage on quiet rural roads, part of the Burren way and green pathways, with magnificent views of the Atlantic and the Aran Islands. Horse riding is available within walking distance of the cottage.
The cottage is located close to Lisdoonvarna and Doolin. Doolin, 5 kms away, is world renowned for Irish traditional music and has ferries to the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher, a world heritage site. Lisdoonvarna is 3 kms away with its famous matchmaking festival in September. Horse-riding, hiking and biking on the green roads close by, brings one out onto the Burren, a limestone karst national park area with its unique flora and fauna. For outdoor enthusiasts, fishing from the rocks, surfing at Fanore and Lahinch, golfing at the links courses of Lahinch and Doonbeg, caving and rock climbing nearby may whet your appetite. Ballyvaughan, 20 minutes away by car, hosts an art college and restaurants. Northwest Clare boasts many cultural and archaeological sites including the famous Pollnabrone Dolmen. Galway city, an hours drive away, is a vibrant hub of Irish life and arts.
Keywords: Pollclabber Cottage and stone outhouses, approximately one hundred years old, restored, modernised and extended in 2009 is set in an oasis of 2 Ha of farming land. The cottage, with a babbling brook flowing through the front garden over a series of small falls, is located in stunning scenery down a private lane. The sunsets over the Aran Islands are truly amazing.
Even though Pollclabber cottage was a ruin when we bought it, we fell in love with the oasis feel to its beautiful setting and the stream running under the road and down through the field in front of the cottage. We felt it oozed potential. It is located on the edge of the Burren way walking route, cycle route and Atlantic Way, perfect for exploring the area.
Pollclabber Cottage is a pure rural idyll, with amazing walks. I adore that moment when I reach the crest of the hill just before the house and the Aran Islands come into view across the sea. It manages to take my breathe away every time. It revitalises and re-energises me every moment I spend there. I hope it does the same for all our visitors to Pollclabber
We loved our time in Ireland and your cottage was a great base for seeing lovely County Clare. Everything we needed was here- the lack of wifi was a blessing in disguise. Lots of table tennis played and the kids enjoyed playing outdoors. They are city kids so this was a real treat.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful cottage. We can see it was thoughtfully built and well loved.
My three friends and I really enjoyed our stay at the lovely cottage. It had everything you would need. The views are so peaceful. We loved the area. Lisdoonvarna and Doolin are lovely towns with friendly and helpful people.
The Pollclabber captured our hearts! My husband, two children and I stayed her for 5 nights and found it to be the perfect home base for the many places in the Burren that we visited. The rural location contributed to its charm. Helen left a lovely hand-written note to welcome us, and many suggestions for places to visit and where to find the best grocery shopping, restaurants, ice cream. Everything in the Pollclabber was in working order, clean and well-appointed. I would book here again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a wonderful stay, Helen!
The House, The furniture, the surroundings, everything was perfect.
I am really looking forward to come back with my family.
Best wishes and take care,
As we drove over the hill to Pollclabber Cottage, the full expanse of a rugged horizon spread out before us - it was as if someone had cleared away the clutter and left an unending expanse of rock, sea and sky! It was for just such a view that we had come to the west of Ireland - enchanting!
And the cottage itself echoed that feeling entirely. It is comprised of an original cottage (to the left in the photo of the house) with a sympathetic new extension. In the original, older part of the cottage (and it is over 150 years old here) the walls are over 3 foot thick so you feel very warm and cosy. The solid fuel stove means that, if it lashes wind & rain, you stay warm, snuggle up and feel safe. In fact, you'd welcome a storm at night because you feel so protected from the elements. In the new part of the cottage, to the right of the front door, there is a glazed area where you read or just look out on the surrounding rural garden. Here you feel at one with the landscape all the time - it seeps into you and refreshes you ... without you even getting your feet wet!
The gardens themselves must be mentioned because they have been lovingly created to be sympathetic to the surrounding countryside - yet they are also so pretty and refined by comparison. Using the natural stone found in the garden itself, cute little walls provide order and purpose to the whole arrangement but look as though they have been there forever. The patio at the back of the cottage looks out over Galway Bay - the view is enchanting and allows you to fill up with the peace of the whole scene. The front garden has a beautiful stream and small waterfall, both of which bubbled forth because of the recent rain but which quietened down within a few hours. This delightful scene can be viewed from the glazed sitting area mentioned above so is a real & unique feature of the cottage - you really do feel that if you looked hard enough you'd see a fairy or two, and maybe even a leprechaun!
Apart from these beautiful and unique features, Pollclabber Cottage is pristine and very well equipped. The owners also holiday here so it contains all modern conveniences - and everything works!
I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay in this cottage because it really is more than just a cottage - it’s enchantment!

This house is perfect! It's beautifully situated, perfectly clean, and well equipped. There were so many little surprises -- like the floor in the living room is heated! We loved staying here and would highly recommend it to anyone!
Pollclabber cottage, a thoroughly modern reconstruction of an old cottage is near Doolin and Lisdoonvarna yet located in a very peaceful rural setting. It is ideally located close to the Wild Atlantic Way, Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch golf courses, Burren Way walks, cycles and horse rides. The Burren is a unique limestone area with rare flora which mainly flower in May. The area is full of megalithic tombs, ancient castles and churches, monuments abound. Lisdoonvarna is host to a matchmaking festival in September and Doolin has wonderful traditional Irish music in the pubs in the evening time. The Cliffs of Moher, whether you visit them by road or by walking trail are truly one of the local wonders, close to the house. A day trip to the Aran Islands from Doolin Pier is like stepping back in time and well worth considering. Doolin and Ailwee cave, open to the public enhance the understanding of the limestone karst. There is an interpretative centre in Kilfenora which explains the uniqueness of this area. Loop Head lighthouse and the surrounding area of Kilbaha is worth a day trip.
This peaceful house, full of natural light all year round would make the perfect setting for someone to write their novel, paint or just catch up on reading.
