About Bob & Tammy Travitz

Tammy & I live just north of Hershey and have lived here all of our lives. Tammy just retired as a middle school math teacher and I'm winding down my career as a Delta Airlines pilot. Both Tammy and I used to come to Mt. Gretna as kids. Tammy's family came for the ice cream at the Jigger Shop, I came to sit at the Mt. Gretna Tabernacle for the Methodist revivals. Guess who has the better memories! When we had kids we'd bring them to Mt. Gretna to enjoy the Mt. Gretna Lake & Beach, the Jigger Shop, the musicals at the Mt. Gretna Playhouse and bicycle ride with them on the rails and trails that goes through Mt. Gretna. After they were off to college we were looking for something to do and came up with the idea of buying a cottage in Mt. Gretna to maybe retire here someday. After 2.5 years restoring this first cottage ("One Fine Landing") the restoration bug bit us and we subsequently now have 3 restorations under our belt, "One Fine Landing," While We're At It," and now "Why Not." We now are going to take a break and just enjoy using them ourselves and renting our cottage homes to folks who want to experience the charm of this village we call Mt. Gretna. However there is this cottage on 2nd street......

Bob & Tammy Travitz purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Bob & Tammy Travitz chose Mount Gretna

This property was in a great location on two non-drivable streets which afforded us privacy and quiet porch relaxing. Also this cottage home has parking for 4 cars behind the cottage which is rare here in Mt. Gretna. Lastly the cottage has 5 bedrooms and we foresaw the ability to add 3 full baths during the renovations.

What makes this cottage unique

It's in the heart of Mt. Gretna Pennsylvania where people can enjoy all types of music, plays, musicals, kids programs and wonderful local restaurants. Even though we have a great tree canopy that keeps the area cool, the cottage has central air for those occasional dog days of summer that you sometimes get here in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Also this is the only cottage in Mt. Gretna that has 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths.

You will not be disappointed. Our stay at One Fine Landing was great. The owners have thought of everything you might need plus the updates are tastefully done but still keeping the old charm. You will love the porch. Nice to meet Bob and Tammy and thanks for sharing your lovely home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for those nice comments. It was a pleasure meeting you and chatting about Mt. Gretna and it's history. Here in Mt. Gretna it is all about the porches, and you're right we also love sitting on our large wrap around porch. We're glad you enjoyed the renovations that make "One Fine Landing" unique. Thanks for staying with us and we hope to see you again in Mt. Gretna.

Lots of charm!

  • 5 of 5

Lots of charm in this spacious cottage! Everything you will need to make memories during your vacation in the Hershey area! The pictures don’t do the cottage justice, clean, cozy and tastefully decorated. We loved taking walks in neighborhood as well. It was the perfect setting for a family Thanksgiving!

Another great visit.

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at One Fine Landing and both visits were great. The house is perfect for our family reunion. Beautifully appointed, fully functional kitchen. House location was easy walk to Hide Away restaurant and hiking trails. Comfortable, clean, cozy house in a very quaint neighborhood. Would definitely recommend. Thanks Bob & Tammy

Owner's Response: Hi Joanne, Thanks for your nice review. Yes sitting on the porch and just relaxing is one of the very nice things about staying in Mt. Gretna. Sitting on the porch having a glass of wine and chatting with folks who pass by are one of our favorite things to do. We'll see you next year! Thanks for staying with us again. Bob & Tammy

Quaint, quiet, and perfect

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. There was plenty of room for 7 of us. The house has a perfect mixture of the original structure with high quality modern fixtures and furnishings. The neighborhood is nice, clean and quiet and the house was very clean. If we are ever back in this area we will definitely try to book this property again.

The only problem I had had nothing to do with the house itself. The neighborhood was obviously built before there was traffic so the "streets" are just narrow paths snaking around the houses. It's not a big deal unless you are driving a very large extended conversion van like we were. We got in and out several times without incident but it took surgical precision every time!

Owner's Response: Hi David, Thanks for that nice review. We pride ourselves in having clean modern cottages but contain that "special" Mt. Gretna" Charm. You are correct. Mt. Gretna has a history that dates back to 1892 before automobiles were used for transportation. Back then you got dropped off at the Mt. Gretna train station and walked to the park and cottages. Now we have narrow winding streets with big tall pines and only the odd streets are drivable. However that is what makes Mt. Gretna special; close neighbors, winding walking/driving streets and old tall pines. Every season we have folks who decide to ignore the "Pedestrian Only" signs and end up trapped on a walkway because they were following their GPS. I've backed up many a car getting them out. Many cottages here do not even have parking because they are on non-drivable streets. Having parking for 4 cars at "One Fine Landing" is a luxury here in Mt. Gretna. When we were renovating "One Fine Landing" we contracted to have the cottage insulated with the new foam insulation. I have pictures of a large truck and a 48' trailer parked behind the cottage. Many bets were placed on how he was going to get it turned around and out of Campmeeting. He was a pro because he made it out easily and without a scratch. Again thanks for that nice review and have a great summer. Bob & Tammy
