Secluded 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath With Stunning Mountain Views
This three-bedroom home is nestled in the hills outside of Pagosa Springs on a heavily forested site bordering 100,000 acres of Native American land, with stunning views of the 13,000 ft peaks of the San Juan Mountains. Convenient to the hot mineral baths of Pagosa Springs, as well as a short drive to Chimney Rock Monument and just 45 minutes from Durango, with the Mesa Verde cliff dwellings a bit farther west; this mountain hideaway gives you the best of both worlds: Durango - the gateway to the western slopes of the Rockies and Pagosa, with it's proximity to hiking along the Continental Divide and it's world-famous mineral springs (Pagosa means 'healing waters' in the language of the region's Southern Ute Indians). The pet-friendly, three-bedroom, two-bath set up is perfect for families, with amenities that include: a spacious kitchen/dining area, outdoor grill, washer, dryer, cell phone coverage, satellite TV and internet. No need to pack linens and kitchen items for your stay with us. All linens are supplied and we have a very well appointed kitchen, with everything you might need to prepare snacks or gourmet dinners.

About Tom Maguire
I am a retired musician and arts administrator. My wife, a photographer and psychotherapist and I have have traveled extensively in Europe, Central America, South America and Asia. We call Santa Fe, home; though we spend a lot of time at the cabin. This is our retreat. We often sit for hours on end in chairs at the edge of the property reading or looking out at the San Juan Mountains and the valley below. Our stays always include strolling the wooded areas adjacent to our home, hiking in the hills and mountains nearby and, of course soaking at the world famous mineral springs in town - often capped off by a wonderful dinner at one of the terrific restaurants in Pagosa.
Tom Maguire purchased this Cabin in 2015
Why Tom Maguire chose Archuleta County
We are co-owners of this mountain home with a professional peer of my wife - another psychotherapist, who built this home at this unique location because of the stunning views and access to so many amenities.
What makes this Cabin unique
We are close to so many things that we love: Chimney Rock, Durango and Mesa Verde to the west and just down the hill to Pagosa and it's wonderful mineral springs, spa and excellent dining.

This is the REAL hidden gem cabin to stay in if you visit the pagosa springs/gateway to wolf creek area. The moment you walk through the door you can feel the love in this place. The inside is so cozy I feel like I am visiting my italian grandmothers house, no joke! Extremely well kept, clean, fresh, no mold/mildew smells like some rentals. Total serenity is achieved when enjoying a cool beverage on the red chairs in the back of the house, facing the magnificent veiw of the vast mountain range. The property is very rural and quiet, but not so much to the point that it is inconvenient to drive to and from town. A short scenic drive down 160 takes you to Pagosa Springs where theres tons of great restaurants and river sports, also the amazing hot springs. You can walk right out of the back door and hike all around the mountain for quite some time, seeing nothing but awesome wilderness and critters. The evenings were so quiet and you can even see the milky way, zero light pollution. We even hung up some hammocks as well. My wife enjoyed having her own bathroom too! Just the right amount of space, fully stocked kitchen just like your own home, comfortable furniture, modern LCD tv's with HDMI inputs etc, WIFI works almost anywhere around the house, but you have the choice to unplug it when not using it as well, tons of reading material, good water pressure, HUGE safe stone firepit in the back, patio chairs, a picnic table with umbrella. I mean what more do you need? Why would you want to pay MORE for a hotel room when you can have peace and quiet for much less. Tom the owner is a very cool guy, very friendly and extremely accomodating to any needs one might have. Even when this guy was on international vacation with his family, he still was prompt in contacting us to ensure we had enough water (via the water runners) and even though he knew we were staying a long duration of time, even offered to have the cleaning person stop by during our stay. He also was very prompt in responding to our booking request even though the request was for the next morning, literally. In case of emergency there ARE people living within the tiny aspen springs area (though you surely wouldnt hear/see them unless you wanted to) so you shouldnt feel too isolated. Perfect for the whole family. The property gets enough sun in summer to even get a tan on the lounge chair! We love the blue moose like home and would recommened for any occasion, year round.
The best getaway in years! Comfortable home with an amazing view! We could not have asked for more. Peaceful, quiet beautiful!
Our memories will last forever!
Great drive up the mountain away from city of Pagosa Springs. The view from the back was AMAZING!!!! The property was secluded and very private. House was clean and had everything you needed. Beds were a little hard for my liking. As far as seeing wildlife, we saw several prairie dogs, chipmunks, magpie birds, albert squirrels, turkeys & mule deer traveling up mountain. But the best experience of all was the evening before checking out. A Hugh Black Bear appeared in back of the house and mozied thru the property around to the front and down into the woods, he wasn't worried about bothering anyone, he appeared to have plans elsewhere. This was our first time to see a Black Bear in Colorado and will hold those memories forever. Never saw a Blue Moose ;( - Had a pleasant experience!!!!
Better than it looks
The pictures do not do this property justice. It is totally secluded. You can't see anyone or anything except for the beautiful view out back. My wife and I stayed here for a short getaway and it was perfect. The kitchen was well stocked and ready to use. The bedrooms and bathrooms were nice. Everything was clean and you can tell the owners take pride in their vacation rental.
Things to know. It's a long trip into town over rough mountain roads. I like them, some do not. Make a list do you don't forget anything! Water is provided via a cistern that has to be refilled. Not a problem just be mindful not to let water run unnecessarily. The internet connection is only for the notebook in Bedroom 3. We hotspotted our phones (Verizon) so we could have internet in the other areas of the house. There is no dishwasher, which was not a problem for us. We visited the Hot Springs and had dinner in town one day. Lot's to choose from. The inner tubes on the river looked fun.
We heartily recommend this rental property and would definitely stay here again. Tom stayed in touch with us as we drove in from Texas. It was very short notice on our part (Can we rent your cabin,,,tomorrow?) and Tom came through. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We were sad to have to leave after only 4 nights.
Secluded and peaceful!
Our stay at the Blue Moose Cabin was incredible! The pictures truly do not do justice for the amazing view that is visible from not only one but both sides of the house! It was very clean and spacious with a wonderful deck for BBQ and drinking your morning coffee. There was also a great selection of books. I haven't read in years but found myself sitting at the edge of the yard enjoying my surroundings with a good book in my hand. The cabin is close enough to town to enjoy Pagosa, but very well hidden at the tip top of the mountain. We had a wonderful time and hope to be back
Beautiful home in the woods with a view
A well maintained and comfortable home. The home is located On the mesa east and south of Pagosa Spriings. The view of the mountains to the north spectacular. We saw wild turkeys and deer every day. One day we saw about 30 turkey off the back deck. We really enjoyed our stay!
