Our family has summered in Bala for 105 years. In the summer of 2011, we purchased this wonderful island. Your bungalow cottage is at the east end of the island. Our 1890-vintage home is at the opposite end of the island.
Robert purchased this cottage in 2011
Simply the best vacation spot in the world - all of our worldly travelers tell us so. Quiet when you want it, action when you go looking for it. Lake Muskoka is gorgeous, and you can boat for miles. Golfing, tennis, hiking are nearby, and the best swimming in the world are at your doorstep.
Island life can seem a little intimidating at first. Soon you will appreciate the peace, privacy and space. And with ony 100 yards to the landing, you really have the best of both worlds - the convenience of being minutes from town, and the 'get-away-from-it-all' feeling of a private island. The bunglaow has a huge dock facing south - you may need the sun umbrella. The sandy beach has been the place where many children have learned to swim over the past 130 years.
We spent our 14 days holiday with three children (16, 14 and 4) on the island of Robert and Katie in their lovely cottage. We really enjoyed the island, at the dock watching the falling stars at night, swimming in the lake during the day and enjoying water skiing. It's a lovely area, great for older and small children as well. The cottage is wel kept and in the weekends Robert and Katie are at the island as well to answer any questions you might have. Stunning views from the dock and the cottage as well, with wild blueberries in the garden that make a superb granola in the morning.
Being at the island is really very private but not very isolated as the shore or main land is only two minutes with the 10hp boat Robert and Katie provided. Great place for relaxation and for activities as well. Lovely nature.

Our family of four (kids aged 4 and 12) cannot recommend the cottage, location, and owners more highly. We had a fantastic time on Dempster Island with lots of swimming, boating, fishing, and fun. The cottage is perfect with everything you need and views of the water from every room, and the provided boat is great for zipping into town and exploring the area. We rented a larger boat for 5 days to venture further that added another dimension to our experience. Rob and Katie were very kind and generous to us during our stay, which really added to the great time we had. We would not hesitate to return next summer.
We (wife and I, kids aged 7 and 5 and my parents) spent a week on Dempster Island. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable. The views are spectacular, especially sunrises, sunsets and looking at the stars at night from the private dock.
Our kids loved playing on the beach and going for canoe and motorboat rides.
Although the cottage is on an island, Bala is very close and it's easy to get to and from shore with the provided motorboat.
Just returned from an idyllic week in the Muskokas. The cottage was everything you could ask for and more! Rob and Katie picked us up as soon as we arrived. The island is only a stone's throw from the mainland. The cottage is extremely well maintained and equipped and the beds are comfortable. You can view the lake from almost every window. The cottage has it's own private dock and there is a sweet little beach for young children. We liked the fact that the dock was so close to the cottage and that it got the sun all day long! The island is fun to explore and the boat gives you easy access to Bala in case you need to replenish your supplies. Rob and Katie are a fountain of information about the area and happily answer any questions. They were extremely gracious hosts. I would stay here the whole summer if I could and I am certainly going to recommend it to friends!!
We just spent a week at this cottage with another couple. It was perfect. Katie and Rob are great hosts and could not have done more to make us comfortable. We spent our entire week on the dock and in the water. The swimming is great and if you prefer to wade in, the beach is lovely. We had no desire to leave the island once we arrived but it is a very short boat ride or paddle to town if you feel the need. The bright and sunny cottage is well equipped, clean and tidy. And if you like blueberries, they are everywhere! Thank you for a great week Katie and Rob.
This is a lovely, rustic very comfortable cottage. It is easy to get to and well-maintained with no surprises in the kitchen or bathroom. My daughters and I enjoyed a wonderful week of swimming, boating, and exploring. The island is very quiet with a variety of environments to enjoy. It's also very conveniently located and close to town should you need to run a quick errand or pick up groceries. Rob and Katie were very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended and will visit again.
