Some of the best-loved restaurants in the Anchorage area are found in Girdwood. Hiking trails abound and come in a wide variety from easy to difficult, forested to above tree line, with opportunities to view waterfalls and wildlife to your heart's content. If you are visiting in the summer, you might like to consider tandem paragliding at nearby Alyeska Resort for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. About Scott and Barbara

We are a family of four residing in South Anchorage, about 40 minutes away from Girdwood. We moved to Alaska about 16 years ago and take every opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy Alaska. We spend much of our leisure time in Girdwood and the surrounding area. We look forward to sharing it with you and are nearby to help. We have had the benefit of entertaining many out of state friends and family and can draw on our personal experiences as well as those of our local friends should you need some travel advice. Scott is a commercial pilot and owns and operates and Barbara works for the Alaska Railroad. We have two sons Skyler (11) and Dylan (9) and two great Alaskan dogs named Kenai and Reidell.

Why Scott and Barbara chose Girdwood

We love Girdwood and have wanted to own a home in this community for years! Scott flies into the air strip which is a short walk away and takes people on flightsee tours and adventures year round. Scott also teaches Paragliding and takes people on tandem paragliding lessons around Anchorage. Look up The whole family likes to hike, bike and ski in the area. We find that when friends and family come to visit, Girdwood is a better base for their travels than Anchorage or Eagle River as much of our favorite things to see and do involve traveling the Seward Highway to Girdwood and points south. We like the variety of amenities in the Girdwood community with its abundance of outdoor activities in addition to the upscale amenities of the resort and the great collection of local restaurants. Our kids love the wonderful Girdwood playground and skateboard park and biking along the paved biking trail as well as taking the tram ride up the mountain to the top of Alyeska. Our kids took ski lessons at the resort starting on a gentle slope with a magic carpet and graduated through Alyeska's ski school to the more challenging terrain that the resort has to offer.

What makes this house unique

What more can we say? We feel just about anyone will feel right at home in our place and should have just about everything you will want in a rental.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all went down and skied on Christmas Day after having Christmas morning back at home 1.5 hrs away. It was so nice not to have to drive back. Skied over to the resort in 15min and back in about 20. I was tired. It was so nice just to relax and have a great meal. Then after the kids were put to bed we snuggled up for a nice movie by the glowing wood stove. It has been a long time since I stayed at a resort after skiing and now I know what I have been missing.

Cozy and Comfortable Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

Barbara and Scott thought of everything we might want during our stay. They provided our first breakfast, homemade soaps, robes to wear to the hot tub, games, DVDs, and they even had the sand truck come when we received freezing rain that meant a skating rink for a parking area. We appreciated feeling comfortable and welcome as we spent a wonderful 4 days with our 2 college aged daughters. We have had an excellent start to 2018!

Perfect Girdwood Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Came down from Anchorage for some snow and Girdwood charm. This place was perfect. Clean, plenty of entertainment (books, movies, games), and close to the mountain but off the busy roads. Snow-covered evergreens made it a winter wonderland and kept us in the holiday spirit.
