Sonya Serene Property Manager purchased this house in 2008
I picked Portlock because when i was a little kid, i used to come here to fish, and fell in love with the quiet beauty of this idyllic, quaint, and charming place. A few years ago i purchased this home, not far from where i used to fish, and decided to remodel the back of the house to create a very large, 3400 sq ft deck with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. The remodeling of the house was just completed with the construction of one of most expansive private decks in Hawaii for perfect outdoor living. You can still walk within a few minutes to great fishing, and diving around the corner.
You and your family will have a chance to enjoy the most amazing views and gorgeous sunset, on a great deck and at a location that is convenient, private, serene, and idyllic. you will be just minutes away from great diving, paddling, kayaking, snorkeling, banana boating, bumper tube, jet ski, parasail, wakeboard, scuba, and para sailing.
I work for musical artist and book this home for them to stay in for a little over a week. Sonya was amazing in helping me make everyone comfortable from changing check in/out times to replacing the laundry key once they misplaced it.
Sonya always answered the phone and before the band arrived she sent over a list of food places, shopping centers, everything local and nonlocal.
The home itself was beautiful very space-ish and extremely clean.
I would recommend this home to anyone looking to relax and have a good clean hope with wonderful owners.
This was the second time I've stayed here, and it was just as beautiful as I remembered it! The location is quiet and picturesque, but close to decent shops and cafes etc, and it's easy to get around. The house has everything you'd need and more, including a lovely pool, barbecue, more sofas lounge areas than you could possibly use, fully kitted out kitchen to prepare our food, and outdoor seating, aircon etc too. The house was clean and well presented. We really had no complaints.
There are several beautiful local spots/beaches within walking distance to watch the sun set. I stayed with several friends and we took our hired cars out to various beaches all over the island, saw plenty of sights and ate great food! Oahu is a beautiful island and easy to explore.
Sonya our host was there to meet us, showed us around the house and offered us plenty of useful local knowledge, and was just a phone call away if we needed her. She ensured our trip was paradise an made our check in/check out so simple.
I'd recommend this property and hope I get to come back for a third time soon!
A group of nine of us stayed at The Sunset Villa for 10 days in late January/early Feb. The house is perfectly set up for large groups, offering plenty of space for all and excellent amenities. I'll definitely look to stay here next time I'm in Oahu!
This property had a beautiful view, pool and deck. The house was another story. It is a nice home but it needed a THOROUGH cleaning. All linens needed to be thrown out along with the comforters and towels and be replaced. The sheets were not washed when we arrived. They had dirt and hair on them. The ask you take your shoes off but the carpet is filthy. The furniture is dirty and worn and needs to be tossed. We had to wash all linens, comforters, dishes, silverware we even had to washout the washing machine and dishwasher. The drawers in the kitchen are all labeled but they are empty. There are only 4 spoons. The kitchen needs a good stocking. Sonya did bring new sheets and towels and cleaning supplies as we requested. She was awesome! And I understand that it's not the property managers fault, they can only do what the owners approve. I am hoping with not being the first with this kind of review it will be taken care of. It's a nice house, beautiful view and pool, just needs a complete overhaul, good cleaning and a good stocking of necessities!
The early morning rainbows and the evening sunsets were fantastic. The views of Diamond head and Honolulu were beautiful. The pool and deck were well maintained. All we needed was more sunshine. We had showers nearly every day during our week's stay (but those morning showers produced the most beautiful rainbows I've ever seen). The home was very comfortable, clean and well supplied with the essentials such as paper products, cleaning products etc. The only inconvenience was that the detached bedroom had no window covering and was lacking in privacy for my son and his wife who stayed in that room. Looking back, I wish I had notified Sonja and I'm sure she would have supplied the necessary covering because she was very accommodating about arrival times and check out times, and responded to all my questions and inquiries within minutes. (Sorry Steve and Rachel) The house is located in a quiet upscale neighborhood within walking distance to the China wall where people gather each evening to enjoy the beautiful sunsets, but not better than those from our deck ;-) It is close to shopping centers, restaurants and Hanauma Bay. A short ride takes you to Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head or Wakiki Beach all of which were on our to do list. The only thing I could ask for was more sunshine, but that wasn't included in the rental.
The views of Diamond Head across Maunalua Bay and the evening sunsets are spectacular. We loved the local neighborhood with regular people walking their dogs, etc. Very few tourists around. However, we had some problems. The house was not as clean as we would have liked when we arrived. The kitchen cabinets were dirty, the glass cupboards hadn't been cleaned. The laundry room downstairs is disorganized and messy and the adjoining garage is dirty, with old mattresses and boxes and miscellaneous junk thrown around and clearly visible. Several of the closets have messy stacks of stuff in them as well, probably the owner's things. Carpets are thin and stained in all the rooms, most visibly the front living room. The kitchen is not well-supplied in basics, like spoons (only a few mismatched, cheap ones) and cutting knives. There should be a knife holder on the counter with various knives. There are too many saimen spoons and bowls and too many weird little glasses; not enough basic drinking glasses. And there are only 3 wine glasses, one of which broke in the dishwasher while we were there. The dishwasher does not work very well; you have to really make sure everything is clean BEFORE it goes in, or it will still be on the dishes at the end of the cycle. The cupboard beneath the sink was dirty and messy and more sponges and cleaning materials (windex? 409?) should be provided there. We had to buy some of this basic stuff. We also could not find a vacuum cleaner or brooms. We finally found a vacuum hidden behind a bunch of stuff in one of the bedrooms, and a broom was brought to us when we requested it, but we were 10 adults in the house for a week; we needed cleaning supplies. (We were glad to find lots of paper towels down in the laundry room, but discovered these only after we'd bought some.) The sliding doors leading out to the lanai are not in good working order, nor are some of the blinds. We think there should be at least one more table out on the lanai and more shade in the way of sturdy umbrellas. As it is now, with only one table with one umbrella, guests cannot enjoy the lanai except in the morning and the evening unless they want to get a sunburn. Sonya, the property manager was very responsive to our questions and Rogel was very nice and helpful, but the property needs some work.
