A cozy, historic school house cottage named 'Little Red' is close to the ocean with spectacular views of Penobscot Bay. Located on a 12 acre, well maintained property located on the East side of the island, the setting is tranquil. Transportation to and from Isle Au Haut, is provided daily from Stonington, Deer Isle.
Formerly a one room school house, the renovated cottage is a perfect retreat from our busy world. Acadia National Park is within reasonable hiking, and biking distance, with many opportunities for exploration, solitude, and relaxation. You may swim if you wish in the crystal clear waters of Long Pond.
There are many trails in the park to be enjoyed, tidal pools,
and breath taking scenery to behold. One may ascend Duck Harbor mountain, to gaze at the Camden Hills to the West, and Mount Desert Island to the Northeast. Opportunities for seashore hikes are everywhere, easily accessed by adults and children.
There are bicycles and kayaks available for use by our guests.
Isle Au Haut is a magical place to build memories you'll cherish forever!
An Orrington, Maine resident, CJ Turner has been in love with Isle Au Haut since visiting the park with his family in the early 1970's. He grew up in Amherst N.H., residing in Colorado, and Montana for many years after. His parents had the ambition, and foresight to purchase the 12 acre ocean front property in the early 1980's, and helped support Turner Cove with active rentals. Extensive renovations and improvements have been made to the property by the family in years since.
Mr. Turner earns his living as a contractor, and organic farmer,
residing on his farm close to Bangor.
Charles J. Turner purchased this cottage in 1981
The property ownership was transferred to family members in 2007, setting the stage for the next generation to carry on the love affair with Isle Au Haut.
Little Red was built in the late 1800's, and was formerly a one room school house which served the community for many years.
Renovated over a number of years, it's a charming. historic building with a coziness that you will love. A covered porch addition was recently built, and will be available in the spring of 2015. The porch has a hide away couch, relaxation space, dining and will be a 3 season addition which is partially screened.
This was the worst place I have ever stayed. The cabin was filthy, filthy, filthy. Best to stay on the mainland and visit the isle for a day if you choose to. Don't stay at Little Red. Still fighting with owner trying to get back my security deposit.
A sweet cottage with sweet owners too. "Little Red" has everything to make you comfortable. It shares a beautiful property with the main house and renters have access to all including a pocket beach. It was very peaceful and the clarity of light on Isle au Haut is spectacular. Owners are very attentive if you need them. There are bikes and a car for rent too, so you can tour and get to excellent hiking trails (and a very long lake too). A good fit for singles, couples and small families who want to get away from a busy world.
7 miles off the coast of Maine, Isle au Haut is an island community and the spectacular location of Acadia National Park. Unlike Mount Desert Island,
its isolation and incredible natural beauty, make it a truly special place. A well maintained trail network offers great access to the rocky coast and interior of the island. Turner Cove is an ideal base camp for island adventures, and is situated on the east side of Isle Au Haut.
