About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8) Pontoon boat included in rental

Truly special property that makes the most of an ideal location and allows you to feel like you are on vacation the moment you arrive. It is located on a wide and quiet cove and is the prime location on Lake Lure to take in panoramic views of the mountains, Chimney Rock, Hickory Nut Gorge, and especially for viewing beautiful sunsets across the lake. All of this plus the use of our top of the line 22 foot Premier Pontoon boat! For those looking to take a slower tour around the lake, we also have 4 kayaks available for guests to use starting in 2017 - 2 new kayaks in 2017. (Renting a similar pontoon boat on the lake costs $250+ for 1/2 day or $500+ for a full day and kayaks rent on the lake for $50/day - save $500/day on a pontoon and $200/day for kayaks by renting our home and pay for an extra night!)

The dock area includes a boat house with an extra large dock area for playing and fishing. It also includes a large raised deck 15 ft off the water. It is a fantastic place to relax down by the lake, watch family and friends swim and play in the water as well as enjoy sunset. The deck and boathouse also provide shade down at the lake throughout the day to maximize comfort for everyone who is spending the day down 'on the water'. Free high speed wifi(18MBs)and free local and long distance calling(US only) is also included with the rental.

We added flat screen TV's in 2016 - the new 4K Ultra HD TV is amazing!. We also continue to enhance our landscaping and hillside to improve the view from our home and expand the forest on our hillside for additional privacy at our house as well as down at the dock.

Sunset cove is a no-wake cove allows for protected swimming, floating as well as quiet fishing from the dock. There are also great views across the expanse of the main part of the lake from the house and the dock. The best of everything!

Road access to our house is ideal via a private road that is less than half mile off of Highway 74 allowing you to avoid the many twists and turns required to reach some areas of Lake Lure - and only 5 minutes from the full scale Ingles grocery store.

The structure of our home is designed to make the most of this ideal location. It has the feel of a mountain home with its peaked roof and cedar exterior. It is surrounded by century old trees proving shade, privacy, and the feeling of being in a mountain retreat. Situated at the top of the hill overlooking the lake allows for easy access when unloading or loading the car as well as making the most of the amazing views.

You enter the main room to vaulted ceilings of rich wood that provide an open and airy feeling. There is a beautiful fieldstone fireplace which provides a cozy atmosphere in the summer and especially in the fall/winter...further adding to the mountain retreat atmosphere.

The center piece of the home is the two plus stories of windows that provide expansive views of the lake and the mountains. The open floorplan allows guests to sit and talk, work in the kitchen and eat dinner - all while taking in the spectacular views.

The main floor has a private bedroom with a queen bed and a full bathroom. The upstairs has a private bedroom with a queen bed and a private half bath. The bedroom connects to a loft which overlooks the main room and has full view of the floor to ceiling windows and fireplace. Sky lights also add to a feeling that you are living in the trees. The loft is semi-private and has a trundle bed (two twin beds).

The lower floor is a huge master suite which includes a sitting area and floor to ceiling sliding glass doors that also look out over the lake - the room is over 400 square feet! It has a king bed and one trundle bed (two twin beds) as well as a sitting area for enjoying the morning sunlight or lounging in the afternoon. The lower bedroom also has a full bath. If you choose for this to be a 'kids room,' it has a TV and plenty of room for games and etc. allowing parents to quietly enjoy the view upstairs (or watch something other than cartoons on TV). The downstairs opens out onto a covered deck with adirondack chairs for lounging in the shade. If you choose to use this room as an adult room, it is a great place to cool down and relax in private.

Not only does the inside of the house make the most of the location, so does the outside. There are two huge decks extending out to the lake. The upper deck extends off the main level and is perfect for barbecuing (there is a gas grill) and enjoying dinner outside. The lower deck extends off the master suite/kids room and is a perfect place to enjoy some shade and quietly read a book in the afternoon. Both provide an amazing view of the lake and the mountains.

In addition to the views from the house, you can take in the view while sitting on the dock or go for a swim in the protected no-wake cove. Sunset from the dock is something not to be missed! When you desire even more adventure, take out the pontoon boat or the kayaks which are included with the rental of the house!

As the location and home provide a feeling of immediately being on vacation, we want our service to as well. Therefore, we have worked to provide every convenience necessary. Your first experience of this will be when our caretaker, Debbie, greets you at the door to give you a tour of the house and demonstrate how to use the boat.

You will then find a full kitchen with dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and plenty of dishes and utensils for cooking and eating. For entertainment, there are two flat screen TVs, two DVD/VCR players and plenty of games for adults and kids. In addition, there is a washer and dryer in a large laundry room to help keep packing to a minimum.

When you are ready to head outside, you will find numerous chairs for lounging and tables for outdoor dining. If you are interested in the local area, we share with guests a list of places that we like to go that we have put together over 10+ years. Every year there is more to do and see around Lake Lure!

Finally, when you have enjoyed your day to the utmost, you will find fully made beds with down comforters ready for you to fall into and enjoy a peaceful nights sleep listening to the sounds of the lake and the forest.

About Tim

We are excited to share our wonderful home, our new in 2014 Premier Sunsation pontoon boat and our boat house and deck on the water with our guests. We are big fans of sunsets and our home and dock have the premier sunset views on the lake.

Tim purchased this house in 2004

Why Tim chose Lake Lure

Location on the lake has the best sunsets across the water with the mountains in the background while also being in a peaceful no wake cove. Beauty and tranquility with lots of family fun in the water. Plus, no jet ski's are allowed on the lake providing smooth water and, more importantly, relaxing quiet on the water and around the lake. The rental includes the use of our Premier Sunsation pontoon boat and 4 kayaks so you can enjoy the entire lake!

What makes this house unique

The house is 'in the trees' and the dock, boathouse and deck are on the water - all have incredible sunset views. Plus, you can ride around the lake on our new in 2014 Premier Sunsation pontoon boat as well as paddle around on our 4 kayaks, all of which are included with the rental. The combination of a pontoon boat and the no wake cove provide countless hours of fun like few other properties on the lake. Our caretaker will alo greet you at our home and take care of you throughout the week.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Once again we had a great trip. The weather was beautiful and we enjoy the boat so much. The boathouse is a great addition. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We hope to be back next year.

Best Sunset View on the Lake! a Pontoon Boat & Kayaks!
average rating of 4.8 based on 18 reviews

Clean, comfortable, and beautiful views!

  • 5 of 5

This lake house was a perfect little getaway. Only a 15 min drive to Chimney Rock -- which we hiked, shopped, and ate downtown. About 45 mins to Asheville which definitely was worth checking out for a night or two! But being on the lake alone was enough of a vacation. Amazing views, especially if you have a chance to take the boat out! Tim was very accommodating and his caretaker was a sweetheart -- she made us feel like family and not strangers. Absolutely no complaints! I would go back and I will be recommending this property to friends and family.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lake Lure is just beautiful, and Tim's house is a perfect lake house. Access to the pontoon boat is a great added benefit. There are lots of stairs to the boat dock, but we appreciated the exercise.

Beautiful views in a tree top home and great lake fun on the boat and at the dock!

  • 5 of 5

This home with its three levels was perfect for three generations of our family, providing just enough privacy, but plenty of spaces for coming together. Sitting on either of the two levels of patios was relaxing and provided great views. Everything we needed - from beach towels to pots and pans to ice in the freezer - was readily available for us to enjoy our week. The number of steps down to the dock were a bit of a surprise, but we found that those in our group that could not do that many steps were able to meet the boat by driving to a nearby marina. Having the pontoon boat was a big plus for enjoying the lake. The dock location in a quiet, no wake cove was great for just floating in the water or sitting in the comfortable chairs at the dock with the mid-July weather being perfect for such activities. Having the kayaks ready to use from the dock was terrific, too. The home was spic and span clean with plenty of towels and linens. The night before we arrived, storms had knocked out the cable and wifi, but Tim immediately responded to our phone call, and through some more calls on his end, had everything up and running for us within an hour. We appreciated Tim for being helpful and informative throughout the process of booking his house, too. Great tips were given on where to eat and what to do in the area. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our time together at this wonderful place on Lake Lure.

Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house From May 20-24 and had a fabulous family weekend. It's not fancy or "modern", but it is cozy and well taken care of. Having a bedroom on the main floor for elderly parents was a plus. It made it easier for them to bring in their luggage and reduced stair climbing. There was also a deck on that level so plenty of opportunity for them to be outside enjoying the fabulous weather and views of the lake and woods. The master bedroom in the lower level was huge and it is very quiet and peaceful. We didn't use the third bedroom, but it had a nice size bed, half bath and a loft adjoining it for additional sleeping quarters. I might recommend a bit more lighting in the living room and bedroom for evenings. I'm a reader and there wasn't quite enough to enjoy that, fortunately, I had a kindle with me.

As the owner notes, on this type of lake there are a lot of steps, so beware. We didn't have any problem with them and the trip down to use the dock and the pontoon were well worth it. The boat, kayaks, decks and the BBQ grill gave us a lot of activities for the whole family to enjoy. For the elderly parents, we simply took the boat to the marina to pick up and drop them off. There was free parking and easy access, as well as a nice visitor center with cold soft drinks. The Ingle's nearby is very convenient and provided a delicious birthday cake on one days notice.

Tim was great to work with. Very responsive and answered any questions we had immediately and returned our pontoon deposit within days. He made some suggestions for eating and I wholeheartedly recommend Medina's! It is tiny and loud at lunch time, but the quality of the food at reasonable prices was well worth it. There is a laundry there if you need it and the cable TV worked great and had any channel you could want.

Owner's Response: We are very happy that you enjoyed your time at the lake! It is a wonderful place. Thank you also for the hint about using modern home as part of the headline for our home on VRBO...that is left over from 14 years ago and it is time for an update. Please check out our new headline. We look forward to your next visit!

Wonderful trip

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time! My kids (including my teens and tween) were already asking to go back after a few hours of being there. The property is very clean, the beds are comfortable, the layout is fun, the views are fantastic. We loved taking the boat out, even on the one cooler/damp day we had. The location was great, we went on many beautiful hikes very close to the property. And Tim (owner) and Debbie (housekeeper) are very friendly and helpful. Thank you for the wonderful trip.

Lake House

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this great Lake Lure House was very relaxing, even though it rained most of the time. We had one great day on the pontoon boat on the lake seeing the fall colors. I hioghly recommend Lake Lure.

Tim, the owner was very helpful with pre arrival questions and Debbie, the caretaker was very accomodating with us.

The house has lovely views of the Lake and long range mountain view. There are over 120 steps down to the lake so its important to be mobile enough to make the round trip. Landscaping is quite natural. Everything was clean and comfortable.

The boat is a nice addition to the house and makes for extra value.

I would definitely come back.
