About John and Millie Holahan

Having lived in many places from Newfoundland, Canada to California and from New York to Georgia, I found the Poconos when I met Millie. Millie's parents owned a piece of land in the Poconos with hopes of retiring here one day.

When Millie and I married, we then fulfilled our own plans of moving to the Poconos; that was 1976. Over the years, we have traveled a little, but always look forward to returning home to the Poconos.

John and Millie Holahan purchased this house in 2003

Why John and Millie Holahan chose Poconos

This property is located in a small community of 9 houses, our primary home being one of them. Being a local home builder, I took the opportunity to buy this property. With a few changes like removing some interior walls, upgrading the kitchen, flooring, painting, siding, decks and so forth, we wanted to have this place available to visiting friends and family.

Because of the most convenient of locations, we renovated a couple of other properties in the neighbourhood, each having their own character.

This area is so close to everything including the major highways like Interstate 80 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

State and local parks are very accessable as are all of the activities you can imagine.

What makes this house unique

This single story home is convenient living on one level. A front porch for enjoying an evening of star gazing and a back deck for enjoying a meal prepared on the gas grille.

The large yard provides plenty of room for children to play.

Wonderful getaway - highly recommend!

John and Millie – we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in your lovely home! The extras that you provide made us feel like we were home (washer/dryer, bug spray, spices, sheets and towels, aim & flame lighter, cutting boards, pizza stone, etc.). Very spacious rancher and very clean and comfortable but most importantly you and Millie were easily accessible if we had a question or needed something (like when we tried to fire up the gas grill but the propane tank was empty…..I called you and within 3 minutes, at the most, you appeared with a full tank). I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this property (or any of your other properties) because they are loved and well-maintained and you/Millie are wonderful. Great location (so quiet and peaceful yet convenient). You guys are wonderful! Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend with my family – we will be back!

Very clean-had everything we needed!

Great place for our family. We came down to visit Camelbeach water park and didn't want a hotel. House was 20 ish minutes away from the park and outlets and gave us the privacy we wanted. We cooked dinner every night because the kitchen was stocked with so many great things! We had a fire out back and John brought over extra firewood because we ran out. Great place! Thanks for everything.

Felt like Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for an extended weekend, and everyone including the children, stated emphatically how the Kottage was comfortable and beautiful. The unassuming exterior does nothing to highlight the interior. The décor and cleanliness of the home was top notch. We felt that the owners actually understood that details are really what makes a home. We actually chose to use the center island as our dining table since we didn't want to ruin the beautifully laid out dining table they had set up. Outside of the home, we found that we were conveniently located to area attractions. Never driving more than 50 minutes to get to a destination, (Blue Mountain Resort, Dorney Park). I met John on arrival and found him to be as pleasant, accommodating and comfortable as we felt during our time at the Kottage. Will definitely go back again when we need a "quick" weekend away from the daily grind.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have you folks as our guests. As you stated, the details of cleanliness are very important to us, and our guests as well. We're pleased you felt comfortable, a must when not staying in your own home. And the fact that the property is conveniently located to most of what the Pocono's have to offer has proven to be important to all of our guests; close but located in a quiet area of the woods. We are happy you enjoyed your stay and welcome you back for another visit. By the way, thank you for leaving the property in such lovely condition; it is appreciated. With warm regards, John, Millie and Donna

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with the house and grounds when we arrived on Friday. The house was well decorated and very clean and we were welcomed with a few staples in the fridge and breakfast items.

The kitchen and dining area are set up so you can cook and still participate with those in the living room.

The grounds including the decks were well kept and made use of both the grill and fire pit.

Besides the cleanliness and overall appearance of the house, the little extras are what makes this house amazing. The linens and towels were provided and there were more extras in the linen closet. But your surprise will be what is in the kitchen cabinets. Not only was there salt and pepper but a wide range of spices and general cooking peripherals like cooking oil and sprays and did I mention the items in the fridge... milk, eggs, oj, butter and condiments as well.

The owners were extremely pleasant and helpful during our interaction.

If you need a place to stay in this area, I would 100% recommend this house and am sure you will have an amazing stay!

Based off the pictures online, I did not have that high of expectations of the cabin when going. But when I got there with my friends, I was astonished. The place was beautiful and very well-maintained. Everything was organized and many amenities were provided, more than what was listed online. We had thought we packed everything we needed, but even then we forgot some things. Luckily, they were provided with the cabin. All the rooms were perfectly clean, and the kitchen had everything necessary. The back was excellent for grilling and relaxing. The wifi was excellent, even with 6-7 people in a cabin using it. There was a Wawa and CVS only 2 minutes away. Overall it was an amazing experience, and definitely recommend to anyone considering to stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. I do have to get a photographer out to the house to illustrate its qualities. Fortunately, your words and the words of other guests have supported our claim that the house is in a great location, is cozy, comfortable and quiet. Your group left the home is great condition and for that we are grateful. You and your group are welcome back anytime. Cheers, John, Millie and Donna
