Lovely level entry home built in 2008 on a sloping natural landscape lot. The home enjoys wide sea views to the west, sunsets galore from our 1200 sq. ft. cedar deck. The south and west sides of the house are almost all windows bringing the outside in and making for a very bright living space.A winding drive leads up to ample parking and to our level entry cottage style home. The neighbouring house on one side is quite distant and screened by trees and bamboo, there is no house on the other side so our home and deck are very private.
When you step up tp the glass entry door you'll see through to the deck and the views. There are two bedrooms the master with ensuite shower room has patio doors to the deck. The second bedroom is next to the main four piece bathroom. All floors are maple except for the entrance and the two bathrooms which are tile or concrete and heated. The kitchen/living/dining areas are one large room with a vaulted ceiling. There is a 12 ft. set of patio doors leading to the main deck area and off the dining area another 6 ft patio door leading to the BBQ area.
The main deck has six chairs around a table storage area as well as a double cedar rocker and a couple of 'zero gravity' recliners. There are sun umbrellas as we do get lots of sunshine.
The ensuite has a large walk-in shower either a rain shower or regular. The main bath has a tub with shower over.
The master bedroom has a king sized bed, the ensuite and a walk-in closet. We love to wake up to the moonlight or ferry and freighter traffic so there are no draperies which may not suit some. The second or guest room has a queen bed and blinds.
The kitchen is great to work in and as this is our principal residence it's well equipped. Lots of dishes pots and pans and good knives. The cabinets are custom built for this home. We have a propane stove, a dishwasher and fridge freezer combination.
For your holiday we have a stacking washer and dryer as well as a clothes line on the deck
We are retired realtors who worked on Pender Island for many years keeping an eye on this very special lot. We now live here part time so want to share this space with others.
Charles or Stephanie Newell purchased this house in 2008
We love this spot as we get the last rays of the sun year round. Lots of sunsets and very private. The homes around us are all well kept.
We first saw this home as a show home in Nova Scotia. It's very easy to live in being on one floor. Loads of sunlight from the three patio door plus many other windows and two skylights. In good weather the huge deck nearly doubles the size of the house.
My husband and I stayed at Steph & Chuck's house on Pender Island last summer. The house is located in a stunning location with views out to the Pacific. We were staying in a conservation area and we had deer come and visit us on a regular basis, eagles constantly flying over our heads, wood peckers, dragonflies were on constant display....and we did not had to leave their spacious balcony at their gorgeous home to see these delights. The main bedroom had the most amazing views with French door out into the balcony...it was like waking up in paradise every morning.
The house is beautifully appointed with high quality and comfortable furnishings. Everything that was needed was provided for. The house is extremely well equipped as well as being stunning!
We also had the use of their car which was necessary forw coming to and from the ferry terminal, the shops and events on the island etc. Other than the balcony....Hope bay was our favourite spot for hanging out with a great seafood restaurant with great views.
There are lots of community events to attend on Pender Island and there is a great sense of community there.
We travelled to some of the other islands too however there are lots to do on Pender including sailing, kayaking and walking.
We loved our stay at Steph & Chucks and they were very helpful and accommodating.
We are visiting from England and staying with our daughter and family in BC. We wanted to have a family weekend some where special and chose Pender Island and Steph and Chucks beautiful home , and wow ! It is so beautiful and the stunning views from the house and deck are just delightful and the sunset's are unforgettable. Thanks for letting us share your dream home, it was a holiday break with memories we shall all have and keep for a very long time. Thanks again.
This is a first class vrbo property. The house is spacious and very clean and everything works very well. The view is stunning and is visible from nearly every room in the house as well as the large deck. The kitchen is very well appointed and the beds are comfortable. There are no window coverings in the house and while that accentuates the view it means you need to bring a sleep mask or wake at dawn. It also made the house very hot in the day. Overall we are very satisfied and would stay at the property again.
The spaciousness of the home and deck is delightful.
The kitchen is remarkable and dining spaces inviting (we like cooking). Very good bedrooms.
We had 5 days of truly memorable vacation and would love to come again.
We enjoyed the Farmer's Market, Buying seafood from a boat on Bedwell harbour, visit to the Winery and much more.
The home & views are beautiful. Exceptionally clean upon our arrival. The deck is huge with a ton of seating - wish we had've discovered the gravity chairs under the cover before the last day though :)
Master bedroom had equally amazing views.. Couldn't figure out how to turn on the rain shower in the master bath though :(
Kitchen is any chefs dream & they had a ton of cookware & random baking/cooking supplies. No drip coffee maker though.
Speakers for an iPod sounded great - and speaking of, my boyfriend left his iPod and they kindly mailed it back to us.
Overall I give this property a 9/10..if they had a hot tub it would be an unreal value!
My wife and I took our daughter and grandson for five nights on Pender Island. What a gorgeous house to use as a base! Steph and Chuck have built fabulous home on the hillside overlooking a magnificent vista of the Gulf Islands. Sitting on the deck as the sun goes down is a tonic for the soul.
The home is modern and extremely comfortable. The kitchen lacks nothing, with a gas cooker, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher etc. Lots of counter space and every utensil you could ever need. A small barbecue on the south deck rounds out cooking options. The decor is lovely and hints of their affinity for France. Music CD's are available to be played on a superior sound system next to the TV. All the comforts of home! Seating is very comfortable and inviting. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed which overlooks the view off the deck. The bed was very comfortable. With no drapes on the windows, the true beauty of the vista is your first image when you wake up to start your day. We particularly liked the en suite bathroom with the heated concrete floor and open shower. Very continental! The second bedroom, though smaller was equally well appointed and also had an adjoining bathroom.
All in all, this is a first class rental and we are definitely interested in returning in the near future. We recommend it to anyone wishing to spend a few days on this lovely island!
My wife and I stayed for a week at this beautiful home. Upon entering, the majestic view out through the sliding doors, over the deck, and out and over the waters just grabbed our attention. The view is broad and beautiful with wood and water and islands all embracing each other for a most delightful visual experience. We spent hours on the deck just looking about, watching the ever changing clouds that towered above Salt Springs Island which lies across the way. The BC Ferries glide about down below throughout the day along with the fair weather sailboat enthusiasts. Lots of soothing enjoyment. Weather permitting, we easily had our evening wine outside while looking about. The sun at this time is so slow to set (about 9:15pm) that at 6pm the sun is fairly high up and some what to the right of the viewing from the deck. The owners have provided two sun umbrellas that come in handy both during the day when and if the sun is may become a bit disagreeable and for evening viewing as the sun settles a bit lower in the horizon.
The home itself is open and spacious with a multitude of light streaming into the living area as one side wall is almost all windows and the side facing the deck is all glass doors and windows. The kitchen is generously supplied with almost anything needed for food preparation. There are lots of drawers within drawers, so one has to do a preliminary investigation to find it all. We prepared dinner each day there and found it well equipped. We did not turn on any of the media, though there is a nice tv and media center to be used. The fireplace was not available to use as it was the summer season, though our visit was some what wet and chilly and it would have been nice to have a fire one or two times (though there may have been a mandatory burning restrictions observed on the island as the dry season had arrived). The master bedroom has a fantastic view looking over the deck out to the islands and water. The evening sky is large. The bed is slightly elevated on the headboard side so the view can be more appreciated. We wish there had been an option to close some curtains as the days were very long, but the mornings were even earlier. By 4am it was light enough to see across to the other islands. It made for a short night. However, the alternative was to sleep in the guest bedroom, which provided that "darkness," but had no view.
The grocery and both liquor stores were quite good.
