Peterson Mill is a historic Saugatuck landmark and offers a truly unique experience. Couples looking for a cottage with an exceptional amount of charm will find the mill exceeding their expectations. Two blocks from downtown Saugatuck shops and restaurants the Mill is close to town but maintains tranquility with its water features and view of the Kalamazoo River.
Fans of the water will love exploring the surrounding grounds of Peterson Mill. Looking out over the millpond from the raised deck makes for a relaxing time. There is also a boardwalk over the spillway where you can get a better vantage point standing directly over the water. There are plenty of opportunities to watch the ducks paddle around the shady creek that empties into the Kalamazoo River. Follow the creek down to a wooden bridge that takes you over to a private grassy island with great views of the river where you can watch the boats pass by.
INSIDE THE MILL
The inside of the mill is completely remodeled with a nod to the old style of the mill. The main level features the only bedroom with sliding glass doors out to the patio. There you’ll find a queen bed and television. There is also a full bathroom on the ground level.
The narrow stairway opens up to a kitchen and small dining table. Large windows line the walls that bring in natural light and great views of the pond. There is also a living room with a pull out queen size sleeper sofa. A private toilet is also on the upper level off the living room.
Feel free to relax indoors, or take a quick, 5 minute walk to Downtown Saugatuck where you'll find great restaurants, unique shops and something for everyone! Hop in the car and make the short, 5 minute drive to either Douglas Beach or Oval beach where you'll really get to experience the best of West Michigan!

The Peterson Mill is a cozy, charming cottage on lovely grounds with a pond and waterfall. Tranquil, yet blocks to all that Saugatuck has to offer. I would highly reconnend it for a solo getaway or a couple. And pet friendly!
This is a nice cozy renovated mill with great views on two sides of the pond and mill. I was a bit surprised at it's proximity to the house next door but that wasn't an issue during our stay and in fact we met the owners and they were very nice. The upstairs is made up of a cozy living room and kitchen with toilet in a small closet and small sink in the living area. Stairs down to the sleeping area and bathroom are steep as other reviews have mentioned though not a major issue to navigate. I do have a two year old and appreciated the gate at the top of the stairs. It seemed odd to enter through the bedroom to get into the house, though again that wasn't a major issue. The deck is nice to lounge in and it was a quick stroll to the Southern restaurant for breakfast and minutes drive to downtown Saugatuck.
The Peterson Mill is wonderful little place sitting on a small brook that leads to the Kalamazzo River. The moving mill-wheel, ducks and wildlife make for a a terrific place for kids to play. The amenities are quite nice, other than a 1970's hide-away bed. In reality this property is ideal for two, not four as advertised.
It's definitely a unique property but we honestly don't care for it. The grounds are covered in goose poop so you can't even go into the grass, which was a dissapointment for my son who was hoping to play in the yard. We can't even let our dog go into the grass. There's a deck but no sun umbrella and there's no screened porch, so sitting outside is limited. The stairs between the 2 levels are so steep that our dog can't even go up or down them, and we are very cautious. And, with no dishwasher and a sink in the livingroom (because the bathroom is too small for it to fit), this is just an awkward place. There's also a step down from the livingroom to the kitchen that I forgot about and took a tumble. Maybe this house is right for some, but not for us.
