About Jane G. Moser

My husband, Bert, is a practicing lawyer and I am a former children's bookstore owner and general bookstore manager and author events business owner. Native Texans, we live in Houston, but have been drawn to the mountains each summer.

Jane G. Moser purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Jane G. Moser chose Lost River

We found Lost River when looking for a family vacation spot with easy proximity to Washington, DC and our grandchildren. We rented houses for 3 years running and realized that from the mountains to the parks to the people, it was our kind of place. For years we had vacationed in the Rockies, but came to love these older, greener, friendlier mountains. Since we cannot always be here, we want to share our special place with others who will appreciate it as we do.

What makes this cabin unique

We looked at newer, bigger houses…houses newly painted, with water wells and modern kitchens. But, when we saw the view from here, we knew it should be ours!

We realized that we could dig a well, redo a kitchen, add a pine floor and paint the walls, even add a bedroom and bath, but, nowhere else could we have such a view!

Beautiful, secluded location

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for a girls weekend in October, and it was just perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck over looking the valley, watching the mist dissipate. There was more than enough space for the three of us inside, although with the lovely weather we spent most of our time outdoors. The cabin is equipped with everything you will need and Jane was extremely responsive prior to and during our stay. We are already thinking of coming back next year!

Absolutely beautiful!

Secluded hideaway with the views you see in the pictures. The pictures don't do the views Justice. They are not kidding when they say they have everything for cooking with some extras in the cabinets and fridge (spices etc). Very clean well water. Loved the hot tub and the wood burning stove! Bring all the food you will require, the stores/supermarkets aren't close. The assent is steep, recommend AWD or 4x4. The Wind chime on the deck added to the relaxation while laying out on the deck, loved them! WILL RENT AGAIN!!!

Brain Dead with a View!!!

  • 5 of 5

The intent of this trip was to do nothing and that is what we succeeded to do. Countless hours were spent on the deck (huge), staring out over the river valley and into the adjacent hills. The view was wide enough that you could watch the weather coming in so there was no surprise when the rain came. Depending on how many in your group you will want to bring extra chairs. There is also a wonderful screened in porch that has the same view, less bugs (some times they were out bad but most of the time not).

Now Google Maps on my iPhone got us there even after the phone said NO SERVICE. But the printed directions you get work fine. It is a dirt road (good condition) up a hill. I only have a 2WD car and made it no problems. In the off seasons though I'd recommend 4WD. No cell service (Verizon) at all. The place does have good WiFi so if you absolutely need to communicate with the outside world, get an APP that lets you text or call via the internet and you'll be set. The closest we got reception was about 1/2 hour either north or south.

The accommodations were good. There are only 2 things I'd report that we were not satisfied with. The hot tub is "off line" for July and August. Now the listing says that but we really felt it was cool enough to use at night and wish we could have. And the fire ring/pit area could have used a good grass cut/trim job prior. But there was plenty of wood for use to use (recommend carrying some to the pit and covering when you arrive so it is dry when you are ready).

Everything else worked great. Slept well (love the pillows!), kitchen worked well. Plenty of space to hang out either in the living room, dining area or the large deck (the deck is the selling point for us!). We are planning a return trip hopefully in the fall or even winter (need to try out the hot tub and fireplace).

Next time I'm bringing the hang glider!!! Oh, go over to the Lost River park and do the hike to the top of the mountain. It takes about 1-1/2 hours to reach the top but the view is worth it!

God Bless!!!

The views do not disappoint! Great place and experience!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this house for a weekend with 6 other friends and everything worked out perfectly! The house was clean, well kept, and comfortable. We loved being able to enjoy the gorgeous views on the two decks outside! Great experience and I'm now inspired to get away to the mountains more often!
