About Kris Linton
We have been involved in historic preservation in New Mexico for over 35 years. This property had sat vacant for several years and the adobes were crumbling. The family was no longer interested in keeping the houses due to the large number of repairs. We had restored old houses before but not quite to this magnitude. We worked with a number of artisans specializing in adobes and plaster. The results have been very well received by local residents and guests alike. We made the choice to preserve the house in a manner that would allow others to experience living in an old yet modernized 19th century adobe.
Kris Linton purchased this House in 2014
Why Kris Linton chose Plaza Vieja
The houses that are located on more than a half acre outside of Old Town were virtually caught in time. We felt we would like to save the houses rather than see them demolished and new structures built in an historic neighborhood.
What makes this House unique
The house has walls that are almost a foot thick. Some of the floorboards were from the Santa Fe railroad. It is decorated with antiques and vintage artwork and has a few items that were left on the property.

Loved the fireplace during two cold spring days in ABQ
We adored our stay in this old adobe house. Details of the property's history, and of the extensive renovations tackled by the owners, were available in a binder-- so interesting to learn what was originally found, what was restored, and what was modernized. We had only two vacation days left, and had plans to see several museums and have dinner in Old Town. However, as the weather was cold and damp, and as the adobe's sitting rooms (3 of them!) were so wonderfully inviting, we stayed in, lit a fire, read books, cooked our own meals (super kitchen!), and took a few brisk walks in the park across the street and in the attractive surrounding neighborhood. Perfect!! In future, if we come to Albuquerque again, we would LOVE to book this house (and maybe even get out and do something touristy). Wonderful hosts, great house, highly recommended.
Cheerful and Cozy Delight!
Where do I begin? Both Kris Linton and her lovingly restored historic adobe cottages are a delight. Having struck a brief cold spell in ABQ, nothing could have been more perfect than to curl up with my cat in front of the kiva fireplace. Upon arrival, the brilliant yellow daffodils facing the casitas were in full bloom, stunningly framing the picket fences and blue doors. Eash casita has its own beautiful and remarkable history. And Kris, who is as comfortable as a longtime neighbor, gave me a tour of those which were not occupied during my stay! She even lent me her own coat (!) when I wanted to take the tram to the top of the mountains in the unexpectedly cool weather. Looking out from the front door of each cottage, one sees the beautiful park across the street: which is more of a quiet lane, important for those traveling with animals. Each casita has its own beautiful back patio. which opens out into a larger shared space in back of the property with shade trees, a picnic table, hammock...each corner and nook a new surprise of creative artistry! I could not be more happy with this stay.
Kris and Terry are wonderful hosts and the house was beautiful! It was perfect for our little family . The house has everything you need and is soo inviting and comfy. We loved staying at Abuelitas Casa and hope to be back again very soon! Thank you soo much Kris and Terry!!
Enchanted at Abuelita's Casita
This renovated historical adobe home was so cozy and spacious, a perfect location for a weekend getaway. Kris has done such a wonderful job in making these adobe casitas feel like home. Everything was provided, even a few extras like the welcome note and delicious empanadas and doggie treat for our fur baby. We look forward to staying here again and highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable place to call home for a weekend in Albuquerque.
