About Kris Linton

We have been involved in historic preservation in New Mexico for over 35 years. This property had sat vacant for several years and the adobes were crumbling. The family was no longer interested in keeping the houses due to the large number of repairs. We had restored old houses before but not quite to this magnitude. We worked with a number of artisans specializing in adobes and plaster. The results have been very well received by local residents and guests alike. We made the choice to preserve the house in a manner that would allow others to experience living in an old yet modernized 19th century adobe.

Kris Linton purchased this house in 2014

Why Kris Linton chose Plaza Vieja

The houses that are located on more than a half acre outside of Old Town were virtually caught in time. We felt we would like to save the houses rather than see them demolished and new structures built in an historic neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

The house has walls that are almost a foot thick. Some of the floorboards were from the Santa Fe railroad. It is decorated with antiques and vintage artwork and has a few items that were left on the property.

Great girls trip! Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the end of the balloon fiesta. Our stay here was so wonderful. The house is so cute and inviting. Kris was so easy to work with and she had fresh empanadas for our arrival...yummy! Kitchen had everything we needed, great water pressure. I loved how the house was decorated. Walking distance to Old Town. Hope to make it back to Albuquerque and I woundn't consider staying anywhere else! Thanks again!

The entire property is beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay! Casa de Abuelita is a wonderfully restored adobe. You can see and feel all the love Kris and Terry put into the property. They had delicious empanadas and snacks waiting for us in the kitchen which was a very nice surprise. The adobe is walking distance from museums, old town plaza, and restaurants. There is a large park right across the street our kids loved spending time at. I highly recommend staying at Casa de Abuelita! Kris and Terry are great hosts!

This is the second time we have stayed at Casa de Abuelita and we will be returning soon! Kris has a great eye for restoring these old homes; keeping the character while updating for comfort. From the lovely antiques and funky decorations to the well stocked kitchen including complimentary empanadas, this place made us feel welcomed and at home while we were there. We enjoy breakfasts on the patio, walking to the museums and exploring Old Town, as well as listening to the concerts in the park. It is the perfect spot to call home while we are in Albuquerque!

Amazing in every way

  • 5 of 5

My stay at this house was amazing. I'm not sure where to start. First of all the house is just beautiful....(the pictures on the web did not properly prepare me) outiside as well as the way it has been decorated inside, combining history and modernity so well, with everything in great condition and extremely clean. But before that I will start by saying that the help that Kris provided was great and made getting around and enjoying Albuquerque easier. She was great in making herself available for support before and during my stay.

Apart from it's beauty and comfort the house is very spacious and has everything you need from linens and kitchenware. Great possibilities for outside dining. Also great for people like me who stayed for over a week was a very simple and easy to use washer dryer system. To add to this the location is perfect. Opposite a great park, and a stones throw away from a couple of museums, Old Town Centre is literally less than five minutes walk away and is full of interesting shops and restaurants. Other main attractions are also easily accessible from this location. If I am ever in Albuquerque again I will stay here without a doubt and I highly recommend a stay here..

OUTSTANDING CASITA!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We are avid VRBO renters, it's the only way we will travel if there are available ones in the area. Kris and Terry have done an outstanding job on this casita. Plenty of room to park safely, beautiful grounds surrounding the casita, and the best part.....the casita itself! Kris left breakfast empanadas, yum! Not a detail is overlooked, even some necessities in the fridge that aren't usually provided in a typical VRBO. Well stocked kitchen, bath (including necessities you may have forgotten) and linen closet. The casita is clean and well maintained, a pleasure to stay in. Close to the Natural History Museum, Old Town, beautiful park across the street and easy access to the airport. This place is a real gem! We hope whenever we are in Albuquerque the casita is available! Thanks Kris for being so accommodating!
