House is beautiful....BUT

  • 3 of 5

Upon arrival we noticed beautiful wood floors with coating of dust. The furniture was all dusty. Then the kitchen...needed completely wiped down top to bottom. I understand log homes may get dustier, but this was from a long period of accumilation. The walls had spider webs and dust top to bottom. The upstairs bathroom smelled of urine the entire week. Then there was the intertubing. I really wanted to spend the week intertubing. We got ready, located the tubes, then had to fill everyone of them up with air. Walked down 171 steep steps only to find the water was moving so swiftly there is no possible way to get in it. You would have no idea where you would end up or how to even get stopped to get out of the water. Too dangerous. Then we had to climb back up the 171 steep steps and thought I would die by the time I got to the top. So all in all I didn't get to relax as much as I would have liked. Then no real TV and only one....boring! Lastly, the worst lighting I had ever seen in any home, bathrooms so dimly lit could barely tell how makeup looked (probably to not highlight the dust) But we tried to play cards every night at the crowded kitchen table and could barely see. We bought T-bone steaks to grill one night for everyone, and the gas ran out on the grill. By the time they found replacement tank, the steaks were ruined. I think the home is beautiful, but needs some attention.

Owner's Response: Sorry to hear of your bad experience. The river does flow and the flow does vary. I recommend putting in upstream and floating back to the house. There is great spot within the Riverbend property to put in at the Old Swimming Hole which is located just inside the main gate less than a mile from the house for a 30-45 minute easy ride. For a more challenging ride you can put in at Canopy Ridge Farm just down 74a about a mile from the main gate. Under normal conditions you can float in the deep pool just left of the large rock landing at the bottom of the steps. The cleaning service has been instructed to do more frequent dusting. I did offer to have them out to do more cleaning when you reported the dusty condition. The listing does specify that there is a 55" Sony flatscreen with Bose surround sound and Apple TV with Netflix but no cable. As for the lighting each bathroom has an overhead light as well as lights over the mirrors. It is unfortunate that the gas ran out while you were cooking. I do always keep a spare tank in the garage. Again I am very sorry for your bad experience and will continue to work on improving the experience for everyone.

It's very nice!

  • 4 of 5

The home was very nice! It had all you can possibly need from a home. The space throughout the house accommodated our family.

A few things that can improve is to stock up on board games. It rained a few times we were there and would've loved to have the games for a well time spent indoor. Everything was clean to the eye but noticed a lot of dust that needs to be wiped down (fireplace, stairs, large view windows in the great room) or hosed off (porch). The yard and surrounding areas would probably need a little TLC. The doors were very difficult to lock. And lastly....Of course, the hike up/down the stairs to the river was quite a HIKE of probably over 50 steps ALOT! But the river and views were beautiful and worth it. This place is definitely not good for elders... Thanks to Mr. Hayes for having us in your beautiful home.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you found the house accommodating and I thank you for your suggestions. I have added board games (clue, boggle, dominoes, uno, playing cards) and I am working with my team to improve the landscaping and do a better job dusting...it looks much better already. I hope you'll be back for a future stay. Thanks again.

Awesome

  • 5 of 5

Awesome cabin in very peaceful gated community. House had everything and plenty of room. We were able to bring our dogs and loved sitting on the deck, running in the backyard and yes, taking the "stairway to heaven" to the river. Jeff was real easy to work with. There was plenty of wood for the fireplace and fire pit which was nice. I will definitely look this place up again the next time we are looking for a getaway.

Lovely spot! Gorgeous home with luxury amenities and owner is a pleasure to work with!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin for a last minute spring break get away. Kids loved playing down by the river! Also, the ping pong table in the garage plus the games and movies in the cabin kept us occupied during the rainy day. We enjoyed campfires at night and fabulous mountain views from both deck levels. The cabin was clean, well-maintained, and the owner was a pleasure to work with.
