Loved it!

  • 4 of 5

This property was so quaint and adorable. Very clean and comfortable. Not a luxury rental, so if you are looking for that... go elsewhere. Was so quiet, peaceful. We had a wonderful weekend, sitting on the back deck looking out at the mountain. Night time fires in the fire pit. We brought wood which was good, there was some but glad we brought our own. Appliances worked great and great water pressure.Kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need (except a shotglass LOL) We did the hike to the waterfall... it was beautiful... BUT... LOL.. not for the faint of heart. We made it! ..... barely... (made us realize we ARE in our 50' If you drive it, (which we did the next day) make sure you have either AWD or 4WD. We had to turn on the 4WD a few times on the way back. My Dodge Charger would have never made it. I would and will definitely come back to this rental. Crystal was wonderful with reciprocating responses to our questions. My only regret is that we only stayed 2 nights. The only thing I would recommend is having a first aid kit available... Yes, me the klutz that I am cut my leg... but that is the only thing I would change! My little dog loved it too!!

Clean and kept nice. Very rustic home with cabin like interior. View was across hrhw street. Wasn't really a view from the home. Picture was very misleading

Owner's Response: Hi Kellie, I'm glad you found the cabin well-appointed. I'm not certain what you mean when you say our photos are misleading. They are the actual views from our back porch. Verizon and US Cellular have excellent service and we have never had any issues. You always want to check your cellular carrier's maps before you travel to know for certain. I hope you enjoyed checking in four hours early at the cabin and enjoyed that time. Please keep in mind that when you travel to the mountains, many areas are similar to this and moving forward you should keep that in mind. Shane and Crystal Howard

Wonderful stay in a lovely cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for the weekend of MerleFest, but we honestly would have loved to have stayed at the cabin and just enjoyed the surroundings and the time together and we would have been just as happy! It was super cozy and homey, it was so easy to just sit back and relax. The beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. The kitchen was fully equipped so we were able to brew coffee and cook breakfast and just enjoy the mornings together. We enjoyed s'mores at the fire pit with the sound of the creek flowing nearby. It was really a beautiful location with nice views from both the back and front of the home. It is also truly off the beaten path, which we loved. There is a Food Lion grocery store, a Dollar General store, a handful of casual/fast food restaurants, and a couple of gas stations about 10 miles away, so be sure to stock up because there is no "running to the store real quick". I also appreciated the instructions for arriving and leaving the cabin. It was nice to know exactly where we would find what we needed and what we needed to do before departing. I would definitely love to rent this cabin again in the future, it was a great experience! (we had no trouble with a cell signal, even my family members who are from another state and don't have one of the national providers for their cells had a good signal and were able to use their phones)

The "Cozy Cabin in the Woods" was extremely clean with all the comforts and necessities of home.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the "Cozy Cabin in the Woods" was a "10 out of 10". We couldn't have asked for anything nicer. The cabin was as described...cozy. It was very clean with everything we ever needed from washer/dryer, to electric range, plates, silverware, glassware, coffee maker...even a Weber Grill outdoors.

The view from the back deck was serene. Five-thirty in the morning with a cup of "joe" in hand, a wooden rocking chair and the sounds of nature in the air was just what the doctor ordered. If you are looking to lay back and just take it easy, this is the place! Get up at 3am and you will see more stars above than you ever thought imaginable. A spectacular sight.

We drove an hour and a half south to Grandfather Mountain State Park for one of our days visit...I would suggest the trip to anyone looking to put the office behind. By the way, when they say a trail is "strenuous"...believe it. We also took a day to visit Jefferson State Park, only 20-30 minutes down the road. Again, I would encourage the short jaunt. The rangers are extremely friendly and appear to really enjoy speaking with their visitors.

Personally, I thought the grocery store in West Jefferson, Ingles, was a little on the pricier side without one of their "rewards cards". I would suggest going a little north on 221 and pick up groceries and other necessities at the Walmart.

The town of West Jefferson was quaint with little shops of antiques, clothing, eateries and a brewery scattered up and down the older section of town. Give yourself a couple hours to stroll the streets and enjoy the atmosphere. We ate at the Hillbilly Grill for lunch...Great food at a reasonable price. If you are looking for some great North Carolina BBQ, try Smokey Mountain BBQ. The help were great and the food even better. Ashe County Cheese is a "must" stop, with what seemed like a thousand different varieties. (Not really, but there are a lot of choices.) And speaking of choices, don't miss out on the Carolina Country Wines & Craft Beers. The tasting was excellent as was the conversation with the owner, Terri.

Overall, our stay was great. The cabin is in a great location, very convenient and extremely comfortable. We will definitely be back!

Great little spot!

  • 4 of 5

My family of 4 enjoyed our stay! My only complaint was the king bed was very firm and made me feel extremely stiff. My daughter and granddaughter slept in the other room with the queen bed and said it felt lumpy.

All in all, we loved the coziness of the cabin, and had everything we needed for our weekend stay! The views are beautiful and the location is tranquil. Just so others know...there is no Wi-Fi or landline (and we had no connectivity as T-mobile users), but the owner does provide contact info and the name of a full time neighbor in case of emergency.

Secluded & Well-appointed

  • 3 of 5

I rented this cabin for three days before Christmas. I was looking for a secluded place to rest & reflect upon the past year. This cabin certainly met my goal. It was extremely clean & well-appointed. The owners responded quickly to my reservation request & questions that I posed.

There were three things that concerned me, two of which are no reflection upon the owners. These are the reasons for the 3-star rating. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars. There was no internet service or landline, which was fine, but I could not get cellular service (AT&T). Additionally, there was no one else (that I could tell) occupying any of the dwellings on Stallings Dr. While this seclusion did not bother me, as that was what I was looking for, I later realized that it was a safety factor. If I had an accident or became ill to the point that I could not drive, I had no way of contacting anyone. Relatives in the area knew my location & certainly would have looked for me if I had not arrived on Christmas day, but....

Lastly, the peacefulness I was seeking was somewhat disturbed by the display of dead animal skins, obviously the work of a skilled taxidermist. The displays were of a deer head, fish, bobcat, & badger (I think it was a badger). I have no problem with killing animals & fish for food; however, I do not understand why one would kill a bobcat or badger. It seems to me that paintings or framed photographs of living animals would be more respectful of God's creatures. Having said that, I would probably rent this cabin again, but would do so in the summer or fall.

Owner's Response: Ms. Pruitt, I'm so glad you found the cabin well-appointed, clean, and met your needs for rest and relaxation. We try our best to be transparent in all our cabin offers and internet is one that we let renters know is not available. One concern you had was that there were no neighbors near you if you needed assistance. Maybe you didn't see this, but our arrival/departure letter stated there are neighbors (we gave their names/address) that live two doors down from our cabin if you needed them. This information is also posted on the refrigerator. We realize some people do not appreciate taxidermy, but our pictures listed on our rental site clearly show these. We wouldn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable in our cabin. The last thing that concerned you was your cellular service. We have Verizon with excellent service in our cabin. I'm also aware that US Cellular has excellent service there. I didn't realize AT&T did not have good service, I will post this on our rental site so future renters are aware of this, thank you for letting us know. I encourage you to check your carrier's coverage map before selecting accommodations anytime you travel so you will be prepared for this. Thank you for staying with us. Shane and Crystal
