Secluded & Well-appointed

  • 3 of 5

I rented this cabin for three days before Christmas. I was looking for a secluded place to rest & reflect upon the past year. This cabin certainly met my goal. It was extremely clean & well-appointed. The owners responded quickly to my reservation request & questions that I posed.

There were three things that concerned me, two of which are no reflection upon the owners. These are the reasons for the 3-star rating. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars. There was no internet service or landline, which was fine, but I could not get cellular service (AT&T). Additionally, there was no one else (that I could tell) occupying any of the dwellings on Stallings Dr. While this seclusion did not bother me, as that was what I was looking for, I later realized that it was a safety factor. If I had an accident or became ill to the point that I could not drive, I had no way of contacting anyone. Relatives in the area knew my location & certainly would have looked for me if I had not arrived on Christmas day, but....

Lastly, the peacefulness I was seeking was somewhat disturbed by the display of dead animal skins, obviously the work of a skilled taxidermist. The displays were of a deer head, fish, bobcat, & badger (I think it was a badger). I have no problem with killing animals & fish for food; however, I do not understand why one would kill a bobcat or badger. It seems to me that paintings or framed photographs of living animals would be more respectful of God's creatures. Having said that, I would probably rent this cabin again, but would do so in the summer or fall.

Owner's Response: Ms. Pruitt, I'm so glad you found the cabin well-appointed, clean, and met yours needs for rest and relaxation. We try our best to be transparent in all our cabin offers and internet is one that we let renters know is not available. One concern you had was that there were no neighbors near you if you needed assistance. Maybe you didn't see this, but our arrival/departure letter stated there are neighbors (we gave their names/address) that live two doors down from our cabin if you needed them. This information is also posted on the refrigerator. We realize some people do not appreciate taxidermy, but our pictures listed on our rental site clearly show these. We wouldn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable in our cabin. The last thing that concerned you was your cellular service. We have Verizon with excellent service in our cabin. I'm also aware that US Cellular has excellent service there. I didn't realize AT&T did not have good service, I will post this on our rental site so future renters are aware of this, thank you for letting us know. I encourage you to check your carrier's coverage map before selecting accommodations anytime you travel so you will be prepared for this. Thank you for staying with us. Shane and Crystal

Perfect Getaway.

  • 5 of 5

This cozy cabin is just that, cozy! The photos don't do it justice, it's very inviting and beautifully decorated. The kitchen had everything I needed to cook our Thanksgiving meal. Owner was great to work with and responsive to my requests to add a night to our stay. Four days went by too quickly and we were sad to leave. Hope to be able to stay here again in the near future.

Lasting First Impressions!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first VRBO experience based upon a recommendations from a friend. We choose this particular property due to the internet description and the proximity to our area of interests. Being pet friendly was a key decider ... Thanks! We were very pleased with the comfort and cleanliness of the property which exceeded all our expectations. We would highly recommend this property and will surely be back for another future stay hopefully one day soon. Matt & Sherry, Estero, Florida

Fall Trip

  • 5 of 5

The owners of this cabin were very accommodating when we needed to change the number of guests after booking. The cabin was the perfect size. The beds slept very well, even the pull out couch. The front view is awesome. There are large boulders at the entrance to the cabin that make the perfect spot to sit and admire the view. If you want to see the waterfall, most of the private roads in this community are not labeled so you might want to print out that map before you leave. It's at the end of Waterfall Lane. GPS won't help because we didn't get much cell reception in this area. The cabin is very easy to find. The owners have made a nice guest book for us with recommendations, and have neighbors ready to help if you need anything. This cabin is perfectly situated near the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it is so much closer to Eastern NC than traveling into Boone. It makes a perfect destination for a quick get away. This is very close the West Jefferson. We also planned day trips to Boone and Mt. Airy. We traveled with a handicapped adult that can walk with a cane, and we found this cabin great for him. We were able to park right beside the steps and our portable toilet and shower chair fit very well in this large bathroom. This cabin had the shortest list of exit instructions of any home we've stayed at, which was very nice. If a bulb burns out there are replacements in the laundry room. We left a cell phone charger at the cabin and the nice housekeepers and owners offered to mail it to us. The owners are very easy to get in touch with. The yard was plenty big for our dog which I am so glad you allowed us to bring. We enjoy staying at different cabins on every trip but we will save this house in our favorites list and will plan a repeat stay.

We enjoyed our trip to this wonderful Cabin so much. The peace, and quiet, and the beautiful views could not be beat...the Cabin is perfect for a get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, your close enough to town and activities it only takes minutes to get to, yet at the cabin you feel secluded in a beautiful place..we plan to go back every chance we can. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
