This location is great ! In the lushness near downtown Hilo, yet far enough away to not be in traffic or car noise. Excellent restaurants are very nearby, as well as numerous beaches to choose from, including Richardson's surf beach- which you can watch from the lanai. In 5 minutes, you can be in downtown Hilo for more restaurants, museums, shopping, shows, and the wonderful Farmers Market where you will find a huge variety of exotic fruits and flowers, home made food, and crafts while being serenaded by music outdoors. Suisan Fresh Fish Market is 2 miles away, where you choose from multiple catches of the day and add deli combinations from their counter of pokes ( seafood salad ) and seafood cocktails for superb meals at home.
5 miles north puts you on the Hawaii Belt road and many miles of spectacular coastline viewing, as well as trails to walk and gardens to visit. You will pass Mauna Kea and the Parker Ranch once you turn inland, and then can head south to Kona for a day on the other side of the island.
Go south 20 miles to visit Volcano National Park with its trails and lava tubes to explore, excellent museum, live volcano, and eat at the incredible Volcano House Hotel where Mark Twain used to visit, then go to the town of Volcano with its Volcano Winery ( taste the honey macadamia wine...) .
Even further south are the Black Sand Beach, and the Green Sand Beach- always lots of huge turtles here, and Captain Cook- a beautiful little town south of Kona.
Diving, snorkeling, kayaking, outrigger canoeing, stand-up-paddleboarding, surfing and lava viewing tours are all around. Watch whales up close and personal with a guided tour ( or from the lanai ). Take a night snorkeling tour in Kona to watch Mantas feeding. Visit macadamia nut or coffee farms, and savor the samples.
I have lived in spectacularly beautiful places all my life, and now seek them out as places to have my vacation rentals, where I also visit for several months/ year. I visited Hawaii a number of times, then lived in the small town of Volcano for 6 months and always wanted to come back to the east side of the Big Island, so now my dream is coming true, and I get to share that with you ! I hike, swim, dive, kayak, windsurf, snorkel, savor good sushi, and love to photograph, and it's all right here !!
I have been in the guest and tourist industry my whole life, so making people happy with my rentals is a natural . I have owned gorgeous vacation rentals since 2005 !
Julie Blenn purchased this condo in 2015
THE VIEW !!!! And the peace and quiet, punctuated by the crashing waves . I love the proximity of all the great swimming, snorkeling, and surfing places all around, plus Hilo and lots of fabulous restaurants are very close. I looked at 14 other condos before choosing this one, which I immediately fell in love with.
Best view of any of the condos in town, including the ones in this development. The lanai gets the morning sun, then gets shaded after the sun gets high- perfect for enjoying breakfast, and hanging out on later . Central to recreation, restaurants, museums, shopping, yet distant enough to be in the country. Also, my guests tell me it is the best maintained one they have seen !
I have been going to Hawaii for years, and stayed at many places while there. Hilo has become my favorite area due to its proximity to so many fun places to visit nearby, as well as the more comfortable weather ( Kona can get too hot) and less traffic. This condo is the best equipped, very clean and well maintained, great location, and definitely one of the best views of any I have stayed in.
The farmers markets nearby and really good restaurants close kept me well fed, and I cooked a lot in the beautiful kitchen, then dined at home with ocean views all around.
I will be returning yearly.
I am sorry that no stars show : I tried and the site did not apply them.
I really do not want to write a 5-star review as we would like to come back here again, but I have to give credit where credit is due!
We have been in Hilo for about 9 months and this is the 5th place we have stayed since my husband is working temporarily in Hilo and this is by far the BEST. I'm hoping that should he need to extend his stay for another 3 months, this unit will become available.
The view is breathtaking, the condo is spotless, and the owner has been very very accommodating! She responded to our concerns timely either by email, text, or phone call. This listing was spot on. Everything in proper working order. Property was clean and it is very well maintained.
Hilo is a great place. The locals here are very down-to-earth, low-key people. They are accommodating and friendly as ever, always willing to help. We have met some condo owners in this building and everyone has been super friendly.
You will not be disappointed with this unit...I promise!
The listing and photos were spot on accurate. It has an amazing ocean view, we saw sea turtles daily from our lanai and even pods of spinner dolphins a few times. Owner provides a nice telescope for better viewing as well. Kitchen was extraordinary compared to most rentals: Knives were chef quality and sharp; fantastic porcelain cookware; 5 burner gas stove; full fridge; toaster oven & microwave. Owner was very helpful and immediately responsive to any questions we had (and we were there for 7 weeks). Would absolutely recommend to friends and family (in fact, have done so and friends are staying later this year as a result). Convenient to downtown Hilo (about 10 minute drive) and located between the two nicest beaches on the Windward Coast of the Big Island, Carlsmith and Richardson beaches.
This was the perfect place for me, and I felt like it was worth the $$. I stayed here while I was in Hilo for 6 months. First and most importantly, the view is breathtaking. The sunrise is beautiful. I loved waking up in the morning to a stunning sunrise and the sound of the birds chirping. At night, the sound of frogs helped me drift asleep. Since I was here for awhile, the things I liked the most was the full-kitchen, washer/dryer in the unit, and the assigned parking space. The beaches are within walking distance, and downtown is just a short drive from the condo. The room is very clean and nicely decorated.. The chair and the hammock on the lanai was my favorite especially in the early evening. Julie, the owner, is absolutely wonderful, and I was always able to contact her easily via email. She gave me lots of info about the room. She is also full of advice and recommendations on what to do, and how to enjoy the Big Island. I'd definitely stay here again, and recommend this place to my friends and family.
We just moved to Hawaii, and this condo was our home for the first 4 weeks. And I am not at all looking forward to leaving. We have been spoiled by how nice the condo is and how beautiful the view is and how close the ocean is. It is really making it difficult to find a long term rental as every place we see, we compare to this one, and the others just come up short.
I would definitely stay here again, even though we will be living in Hawaii permanently. I'm telling all my friends and family they need to stay here when they come to visit.
The kitchen is perfect, there's a washer and dryer and a dishwasher. The complex is pretty quiet with covered parking and I love falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.
I found this condo to be the perfect home base for my trip to the Big Island. The view totally took my breath away and the sound of the ocean lulled me to sleep at night. The furnishings are very comfortable and I spent many hours relaxing on the Lanai and enjoying the amazing view. The floor plan of this condo is well though out and easy to live in with ample storage areas. I enjoy cooking and found the kitchen to be very well appointed! I also appreciated the attention to details that Julie (the owner) has done to make her guests feel at home. I met several neighbors and was warmly welcomed. This condo is in a quiet and relaxed area of Hilo with lots of nearby parks for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, boogie boarding, surfing, relaxing and people watching. Plus, it's easy to get out of Hilo for day trips. I spent time exploring Puna, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the Kohala Coast. Kona is nice for a day or so but I was glad to leave this touristy area with heavy traffic and retreat back to Hilo where I felt very much at home. After dinner at the condo one evening, I was fortunate to see a pod of dolphins just off shore. Julie has a telescope in the living room that brought them into close view. After watching them for about 20 minutes, I saw a whale spout in the distance. So nice! I did so many fun activities and had a wonderful stay here. I'll definitely be returning and highly recommend this property!
What a fantastic place!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
We have been to Kauai but never the Big Island. There is so much more to do and see on the Big Island – wow !!! And not as touristy ( except for Kona) . From volcano watching, museums, local history, great food and live music, hiking in lava tubes, amazing Botanical Gardens, snorkeling that makes you feel like you are in the world's most exotic aquarium surrounded by eye popping colors of fishes with psychedelic patterns. There was even a big sea turtle named Radar (local fav) that played with us, chasing after my fins as I tried to put them on. There are places in the ocean where you can swim with warm water bubbling up from the center of the earth… incredible!!
The fresh fruits and flowers from the farmers markets, and along the roadsides where you can pick them up at your leisure, were from another world. It helps to have a local for this one ; flavors from custard to brown sugar, with names like cherimoya, mamay sapote and star fruit .Yummm! Learning how to pronounce the many names of all the wonderful fruits and veggies was the biggest challenge, but the friendly locals are happy to give samples and help explain!! There is also an awesome fish market in Hilo, just a couple miles from the condo, that sells you slices from the many catches of the day, an inch of Ahi, or 2 inches of Ono. Try their Poke fish salad made in countless ways from hot to sweet.
Romantic getaway for two? PERFECT!!! 5th floor Home Away from Home even had an elevator! Less than a 75 meters from waters edge, the sounds of the ocean will lull you to sleep, as the nice breezes float thru the unit. We slept like babes in the super comfortable bed that had a full view of the sunrise, to a shower that ran as hot and strong and long as you'd like, with the bonus of a removable showerhead on a track for adjusting the height. Everything was there that you'd need for cooking or baking, and then you can dine on the deck with the ocean crashing below and colorful curious geckos licking the honey water we put out…very entertaining! Very nice, clean complex!
We are already planning the trip for next year! We can hardly wait!!! We want to swim with the dolphins and giant Manta Rays next time!!
Hilo Farmers Market and the Fish Market are not to be missed ! Volcano National Park, where you can sometimes see flowing lava, is 20 minutes south. Lots of hiking and history, lava tubs, and a great restaurant there.Green Sands and Black Sands beaches , Kona 2 hours across the island, north part of the island is lush with huge waterfalls and steep canyons . Parker Ranch and Mauna Kea are nearby. Mauna Kea has the world's clearest Observatory !
