About Brian Dunbar

We live in Madbury NH near UNH and Portsmouth. When we first purchased this Fryeburg property in 2010, our weekend trips with 4 young children were numerous. Increasingly their activity schedules have interfered with trips to our beloved 'Hattie Pike'. Hence our desire to rent our home regularly.

Brian Dunbar purchased this house in 2010

Why Brian Dunbar chose Western Maine

This property offers a tranquil and quiet retreat from life's stressors. No road noise can be heard from the water's edge and no paved roads can be seen from any vantage point when boating.....yet a short 5 min (2 mile) drive to Fryburg provides most services. The large size of the lake makes for great boating and watersports. The lack of boat traffic, even on holiday weekends, is striking. The views of the surrounding mountains, including snow-capped Mount Washington from November-April, strikes a chord with most visitors. The 2/10 of a mile unpaved camp acces road (Hattie pike road) reminds one they are entering a wilderness setting. The gentle slope of the wide-open front yard is ideal…it is flat enough to allow for games of croquet and frisbee in warmer months while transforming to a sledding hill in the winter months. The frozen lake is populated with many ice-fishing huts from Jan-March and serves to connect the many snowmobile trails on either side of the lake.

Beautiful home with everything you could possibly ask for 😊

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house, beautiful lake .... all the amenities you could ask for and then some! We had an absolute blast!

The house is kept very clean and ready to go when you arrive. Plenty of sleeping space for all your guests & of course the water activities on the lake are a huge plus 😊?

Perfect Lakefront Home for Families

  • 5 of 5

We had three couples and our children stay at the home comfortably. From the moment we arrived we were shocked and excited at all this house had to offer including many accessories (high chair, crib, changing pad and more) and plenty of toys for the kids, fully equipped kitchen, hottub, boats, swim dock, beautiful sandy beach, and more! The home is also perfectly situated. It's 20 minutes to downtown North Conway, 25 minutes to Storyland (which we thoroughly enjoyed), with all the necessities available 4 minutes away in town. We highly recommend this property. Brian was also a great host providing very helpful information and quickly answering any questions we had. We're already planning our trip back next year!

Vacation in Fryrburg

  • 4 of 5

The property was great and had everything you could possibly need but the weather was rain the first 2 days and the mosquitos were terrible. Don't know if the mosquitos were worse because of the rain or at this time of year but they were everywhere. If not for the mosquitos, the hot tub was great and the house was perfect.

Great property and wonderful owners

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed for 3 nights during February school vacation. We had two families and spent most of our time during the day at Cranmore mountain (North Conway, NH) so the kids could take ski lessons. When we were all back at the house, there was plenty of room for both families. In fact, it worked out well that one family used the 3 bedrooms upstairs and the other used the two bedrooms downstairs (1 of those bedrooms has 3 single beds so was perfect for the kids). We never felt cramped at the house. There was plenty of room for all of us and the view across the lake was beautiful. The kids spent some time in the yard sledding down the hill towards the lake. The kitchen table is relatively small (4 person) but we never needed it because the kitchen island is so big and has so many stools. The beds were comfortable and the house was clean. The water was soft and had a slight smell, but that is normal for houses in this area. The wood burning fireplace and hottub were both a HUGE plus for a ski weekend. We had a few questions on the hottub and the owners were incredibly responsive in answering our questions and making sure everything was working. They were also flexible with our arrival and departure times which was much appreciated. We will definitely be back next year and would recommend this house to anybody that is looking to spend some time in the area.

Located in Fryeburg ME, between Bridgeton ME and Conway NH, on a beautiful waterfront lot with private beach, this property is one of a kind. The gradual 'zero' entry into the water and delay before a deeper drop off makes swimming/wading safer for small children. Lovell Pond is 1100 acres with average depth around 30 feet. It is roughly 3 miles long and 1 mile wide.....the name 'Lovell Lake' may be more fitting. Despite its larger size and presence of a public boat launch, the lake has minimal boat traffic. This allows for safer waterskiing/boating conditions and a more tranquil lakefront. The property provides direct access to snowmobile/ATV trails and is only 15 min to Conway outlets, 15 min to Shawnee Peak, 20 min to Cranmore, 30 min to Attitash and Storyland, 60 min to Sunday River and Bretton Woods. Fryeburg has a local grocery store, pharmacy, specialty beer/wine store (the 'Good Beer Store' ), and several restaurants all within 5 min drive. Oxford House Inn (Fryeburg) is regarded as one of the top 3 restaurants in the greater Conway region and its downstairs pub 'Johnathan's' has the same menu in a more relaxed setting. Paddling the Saco River using the local canoe outfitters is a must between May and October. Lovell Pond connects directly to the Saco River at its southern end, which allows for paddling directly back to the private beach after a day on the Saco. Lovewell Pond is home to bass and pickerel for fishing enthusiasts. Bridgeton ME and North Conway NH have hospitals with 24 hour Emergency Room service and are about 20 minutes away. There is a State of Maine sponsored 'rails-to-trails' project which will ultimately create a paved biking/running path from the state line in Fryeburg to Portland, ME alongside unused railroad tracks. The path currently begins at the Fryeburg -Conway state line and runs south 7 miles parallel to Lovell Pond. Like the snowmobile trails, it can be directly accessed across from Hattie Pike Road (the 'camp access road') on the other side of route 5/113. It is a short walk (2/10 of a mile) from the property to this newly paved bike path.
