About Brian Dunbar

We live in Madbury NH near UNH and Portsmouth. When we first purchased this Fryeburg property in 2010, our weekend trips with 4 young children were numerous. Increasingly their activity schedules have interfered with trips to our beloved 'Hattie Pike'. Hence our desire to rent our home regularly.

Brian Dunbar purchased this house in 2010

Why Brian Dunbar chose Western Maine

This property offers a tranquil and quiet retreat from life's stressors. No road noise can be heard from the water's edge and no paved roads can be seen from any vantage point when boating.....yet a short 5 min (2 mile) drive to Fryburg provides most services. The large size of the lake makes for great boating and watersports. The lack of boat traffic, even on holiday weekends, is striking. The views of the surrounding mountains, including snow-capped Mount Washington from November-April, strikes a chord with most visitors. The 2/10 of a mile unpaved camp acces road (Hattie pike road) reminds one they are entering a wilderness setting. The gentle slope of the wide-open front yard is ideal…it is flat enough to allow for games of croquet and frisbee in warmer months while transforming to a sledding hill in the winter months. The frozen lake is populated with many ice-fishing huts from Jan-March and serves to connect the many snowmobile trails on either side of the lake.

Spectacular lakefront home and property

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this spectacular lakefront home with another family and everybody loved it and can't wait to go back next year. 4 adults and 5 children had ample room in this specious home. The private beach was the best part of the experience. We spent everyday down at the beach using the paddle board, kayaks, and floating dock. The fire pit on the beach was a great spot to roast marshmallows and sit back and enjoy the scenic sunsets. The lake is very quiet and not overpopulated like some lakes. Lastly, the hot tub is an added bonus to use after spending the day at the beach. Thank you Brian for allowing us to stay at your home for our family vacation

Great space for multifamily vacation

  • 5 of 5

Description of our time:

Summer of 2016 was a very dry summer, we went in the beganning of July. The beach and yard were great, it wasn't to buggy, a few horse flies but nothing unbearable. The layout and space in the house was great for two families. There was enough room for 4 adults and 4 children to fit comfortably with extra space. The kitchen was a good size, though there isn't seating for a sit down meal over four people (but this didn't bother us). It did rain for 2 nights which resulted in visible condensation on the tile floor in the downstairs bunkroom, but with fans and a couple of towels it dried up without a problem. The WiFi connection worked and allowed everyone to access technology throughout the whole house and beach, which was nice since there was no cable nor is there a TV upstairs. The house was clean and well stocked. It was rustic and camp like, but that is what we were looking for. The hot tub was a great addition, as was the screened in porch.

Plenty of space

Close to north conway

Beautiful lake

Water equipment/water shoes (for under size 5 kids)

Clean and as expected

Floating dock/raft to jump from

Owner was easy to work with

Lake can be mucky (bring tubes to float out on)

Water level changes drastically (seems like there is the potential for no beach during a wet year)

Basement got damp

Holes in some screens (easily fixed with package tape)

Overall we had a great time and hope to rent again next year!!!

Beautiful property, owner was great to deal with and location is excellent

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay, property is great, beach is beautiful and well located to get to Saco River, North Conway. For the size of the Lake it was actually very quiet, mostly pontoon boats cruising around, would definitely recommend staying

An amazing long weekend with my family!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful lake home. The home had everything you can possibly need to enjoy your vacation, all we packed were our clothes. No need to bring anything! Rooms were super comfortable, lower level worked out beautiful for the children to hang out in, the lake was breath taking and kitchen was super spacious for us to all eat. The jacuzzi was a bonus as during our stay the weather was not warm enough for the children to go swim in the lake. The older ones did however enjoy the canoe and kayak that were provided by owner. They took some amazing photos of the lake when they went out. Also amazing sunsets! I highly recommend this home! Owner was very easy to reach and communicate with.

Labor Day Weekend

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't do Hattie Pike justice! The house and property are beautiful. The house is very spacious, with spectacular views of the water and had everything you could possibly need on vacation. The beach was amazing! We had 4 kids and they were never bored between kayaking , canoeing , swimming and camp fires on the beach. The property is located about 10-15 minutes from North Conway NH and about 25-minutes from Lincoln NH . Saco River tubing is about 5 minutes from the house . Brian the owner was GREAT ! He went above and beyond to make our stay great . We had one of our best vacations ever at Hattie Pike and are looking forward to go going back next year for a week ! Thanks again to Brian and his family for sharing their home with us

Great Vacation Spot!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for an end of summer vacation. We had two families, 4 kids under age 5 and 4 adults. The house had a great layout and we had more than enough room to relax and enjoy our time there. The beach was amazing. Super private and big for the kids to play on.

Brian was super responsive and helpful through the rental process and during our stay! Couldn't have asked for more! The house was exactly like the photos. We were so happy with our stay.

Another amazing part of this rental is that the tap water tasted amazing! Maybe a common thing with Maine water but we loved it! :)

Located in Fryeburg ME, between Bridgeton ME and Conway NH, on a beautiful waterfront lot with private beach, this property is one of a kind. The gradual 'zero' entry into the water and delay before a deeper drop off makes swimming/wading safer for small children. Lovell Pond is 1100 acres with average depth around 30 feet. It is roughly 3 miles long and 1 mile wide.....the name 'Lovell Lake' may be more fitting. Despite its larger size and presence of a public boat launch, the lake has minimal boat traffic. This allows for safer waterskiing/boating conditions and a more tranquil lakefront. The property provides direct access to snowmobile/ATV trails and is only 15 min to Conway outlets, 15 min to Shawnee Peak, 20 min to Cranmore, 30 min to Attitash and Storyland, 60 min to Sunday River and Bretton Woods. Fryeburg has a local grocery store, pharmacy, specialty beer/wine store (the 'Good Beer Store' ), and several restaurants all within 5 min drive. Oxford House Inn (Fryeburg) is regarded as one of the top 3 restaurants in the greater Conway region and its downstairs pub 'Johnathan's' has the same menu in a more relaxed setting. Paddling the Saco River using the local canoe outfitters is a must between May and October. Lovell Pond connects directly to the Saco River at its southern end, which allows for paddling directly back to the private beach after a day on the Saco. Lovewell Pond is home to bass and pickerel for fishing enthusiasts. Bridgeton ME and North Conway NH have hospitals with 24 hour Emergency Room service and are about 20 minutes away. There is a State of Maine sponsored 'rails-to-trails' project which will ultimately create a paved biking/running path from the state line in Fryeburg to Portland, ME alongside unused railroad tracks. The path currently begins at the Fryeburg -Conway state line and runs south 7 miles parallel to Lovell Pond. Like the snowmobile trails, it can be directly accessed across from Hattie Pike Road (the 'camp access road') on the other side of route 5/113. It is a short walk (2/10 of a mile) from the property to this newly paved bike path.
