Richard is an obstetrician and I am a minister and former banker. We plan to eventually retire to this home. We both enjoy gardening and outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, kayaking, swimming. We love to travel and entertain. We enjoy theater and music, which abound in Vermont in the summer. We have three grown children and two grand-puppies. We have been skiing at Okemo for 40 years (my mom grew up in Ludlow).
The Owner purchased this house in 1996
We chose the property for the views. It is very private on a beautiful dirt road lined by maples. Being north of Okemo we avoid the traffic and are closer to Rutland, where we can run in for a movie, bowling, ice skating, restaurants, best farmers market in Vermont, excellent grocery shopping. We are also only 15 minutes from the Weston Playhouse, 30 minutes to Manchester, Woodstock and Brandon.
Total privacy, beautiful gardens, walking trails in our woods can be used for cross country or snowmobiling.
The home was exactly as described! The upper three bedrooms were very spacious. Those in our group who slept in the lower two bedrooms reported those bedrooms were cold even when they adjusted the thermostat and the furnace was "noisy", but they admitted to be very light sleepers. The kitchen was well equipped. The great room with the large fireplace was a perfect room for just relaxing after our days of skiing. The dining room had a table large enough with enough chairs for our group of eleven adults without feeling crowded. We did lose power one morning, but it was quickly restored. If we had had a lot of snow or icy conditions, we would have definitely needed vehicles with 4WD or AWD, but we had them and only needed to use it one night and one morning. Overall everyone in or ski group was very pleased.
My extended family spent a week at East Wallingford and were very pleased with this home. It was clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and the screened porch. The owner sent a great list of things to do. The use of the kayaks and roof racks were greatly appreciated. We plenty of room for 9 adults and 3 children. I would highly recommend staying at this property.
My boyfriend and I stayed at this home during Valentine's Day weekend and would highly recommend it to others. The house itself is huge, clean, and well-stocked. We got in relatively late on Friday night and settled in to a bedroom that was neat, spacious, well-decorated, and featured a very comfortable bed. In the morning we woke up to the most spectacular views of the beautiful property and the mountains behind us - it was hard to pull ourselves away from the enormous window in the dining room long enough to run some errands and do some shopping in town. Really - the view is insane. I am not a skier - so we skipped the slopes and instead enjoyed a day driving along beautiful VT roads, shopping at local antique stores, and getting lunch in downtown Ludlow. When we got home we made a fireplace in the den, relaxed and read on the couch, had some cocktails, and then got ready for a delicious dinner back in town (note that there are ample bathrooms in the house so even if we were with a bigger group wouldn't have had any trouble getting ready at the same time). It was legitimately one of the most relaxing weekends that we have had in a long time and we're already looking at the calendar to book another trip to the house with a bigger group of people. We're anxious to share this gem of a house (and the view!) with our friends and family.
My family came up here last week along with two other families (6 adults and 6 kids) and we got way more than what we expected. The home was extremely well appointed, with more than enough towels, all the kitchen necessities, tons of games for the kids and adults and enough wood to last all winter. That doesn't even include the huge garage which was great for the rain/snow. While it was a very mild weekend, we were jealous it wasn't warmer to use all the kayaks and life vests in the garage, and the owners were even nice enough to have a stack of beach towels that we hit the pool over at Okemo. The property has beautiful views, along with a huge two level deck, a screened in porch, a gas grill and backyard big enough for a full football game. The flow of the home was ideal for families with bedrooms in the basement for all the kiddos to hang out along with a huge tv for movies and and then a great kitchen/dining/living room flow for the families to hang out as well by the massive fireplace. To go along with that, the owner was very responsive to any/all questions. Our stay was truly memorable. This home is wonderful option for multiple families and great for both summer and winter activities.
This home is spacious, located on a spacious property and has a great layout for a family retreat. Multiple bedrooms and bathrooms are distributed upstairs and on a lower level. On the main level the den with fireplace/dining room and kitchen are adjacent to each other enabling a large family to have a central place to gather for meals and discussions. Highly recommend this property.
Just checked out after an incredible stay. The house was perfect, huge, clean, impressively stocked all on a secluded breathtaking piece of property. We couldn't have asked for anything more. We plan to come back!
Snowmobiling, walking or cross country skiing on property, also just off Appalachian Trail. Nearby attractions include: Machester Outlet Shopping, Rutland Farmers Market, Rutland Adventure Sports (mountain biking, hiking, etc), the Weston Playhouse, Spartan Ice-skating Arena, Spring Lake and Buttermilk Falls, Okemo/Bromley Adventure parks (zip-lines, go-karts, alpine slide, etc). Tons of excitment within 30 minutes of our serene hilltop!
