About Narelle and David Druitt
We are both Australians living on a small farm (ranch) in the central west of NSW west of Sydney. Narelle is in education management and David has worked mainly in engineering and the food industry around the world. We enjoy vintage cars and trailers (caravans) and also have had a long involvement with aviation, Rotary and world travel. We lived in Detroit Lakes for several years due to David's work and this is when we discovered and fell in love with Pickerel Lake.
Narelle and David Druitt purchased this House in 2014
Why Narelle and David Druitt chose Detroit Lakes
We fell in love with Pickerel Lake when we first visited Detroit Lakes in 2008. We wanted to 'belong' and were lucky enough to purchase this gorgeous lake home in 2014.
What makes this House unique
Houses around Pickerel are hidden in trees so all residences feel very secluded and private. Views of the lake are superb and the wildlife adds to the natural environment. Swimming in the deep, clear water is an absolute joy and the view of the small island from our balcony is wonderful! We feel relaxed and happy at Pickerel, and we think you will too. It's the perfect place for a family gathering or to get together with some close friends.

Beautiful home and setting!
Beautiful home and perfect location - very peaceful and quiet lake. We hope to book again!
We had a wonderful stay. We felt very welcome to use the house as if it were our own. They had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. Thank you for opening up your beautiful home to us.
Perfect family vacation spot!
We could not have been more pleased with this VRBO rental for our extended family vacation with five adults and two teens. We have rented a number of homes, and this has been our favorite. Very clean, well-stocked and plenty of spaces for everyone to spread out and have their own down time. It truly felt like we were at our own cabin for the week - very family friendly and comfortable.
A Restful Retreat
Our family of four older children and spouses came here for a family retreat. All of us were in need of rest from busy life schedules and renewal and that we found. David and Narelle have a lovely lakeside home with everything a family needs for rest and recreation. We loved the well stocked kitchen, large dining room, and game room.. The beds are all very comfortable and that is important. We had two young ones 2 1/2 and 5 with us so the play area was a hit with them.. Even though we had a lot of wind and rain there was plenty of time for Some-mores by the fire pit, fishing on the dock and grilling dinner on the deck. On rainy days we made use of the video library in the lower TV room and extensive game choices. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. We hope we can return soon.
Excellent home and location. It felt so private and isolated but still only 15 minutes from town.
We spent a week at this house with our adult children, their spouses and 6 month old grand daughter (8 adults). We loved everything about the house, except the lack of central air conditioning (there were two wall units). Fortunately the weather was relatively cool while we were there. We didn't use the upstairs bedroom with western sun exposure during our stay as it was very hard to cool that space in the afternoon and evening. Having a crib, pack & play and a high chair in the house was especially nice with our grand daughter there. Although, the regular sized bed in the room with the crib was a bit cramped for two adults.
The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of dishes, silverware, pots and pans. They even had Rubbermaid storage and lidded bowls to store leftovers along with large serving platters. The kitchen was much better stocked than previous VRBO's we had stayed in. The second refrigerator in the garage was perfect for keeping extra beverages cool. There were plenty of mature trees to provide shade through the afternoon for those who wanted to avoid sunburn. We were surprised at how quiet it was on the lake (probably because our stay was so close to the beginning of the school year). There were only a handful of boats in use and we enjoyed the peacefulness. My daughters-in-law appreciated the short drive to Detroit Lakes with quite an impressive shopping district for such a small town. Plenty of nice restaurant options as well.
The hot tub, fire pit and play ground were nice features, although we didn't use them as much as I thought we might, it was still nice to have the option. The lack of a beach area for swimming may impact our decision to return to Pickeral Lake. The adults were able to access the water on float toys or from the private dock, but the rocky shore would prevent small children from playing in the lake.
The house itself is beautiful with plenty of space for relaxing. The check in/out process was simple and Jenny was attentive to our needs. The lake is gorgeous with crystal clear water. The fishing was poor with only a few Bass and lots of Blue Gills and Perch to steal your crawlers. We enjoyed several long walks on the rural roads and the car traffic is very minimal around the lake.
I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for solitude and beautiful surroundings. The house is well maintained and very welcoming to visitors. Sharon
