Overview

About the property

Point Loma 3000 sq' 4 bedroom 4.5 bath

This 1945 classic lofty hillside residence with 4 Master Bedrooms & 4.5 baths was entirely renovated and redesigned in 2014 for Architectural Digest AD 100 by Architect John Ike for his own personal San Diego home.

Luckily there is a telescope in the residence so that you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic views that stretch from Cabrillo Point and the Pacific Ocean, to the 10,000 foot high Pacific Coast Range east of downtown San Diego.

The never ending parade of ships and sailboats in San Diego Bay below would be enough to keep you occupied during your entire stay!

It's also one of those homes that you really have to be inside of in order to appreciate the excellent design and intriguing detailed craftsmanship that has been created for your comfort and viewing pleasure.

Each of the Master Bedrooms (two on each level) have spectacular views and are decorated with vintage mid- century furniture and custom made beds, each with its own bath, and all but one affording access to the outdoors. We have two King sized beds, 2 twins, 1 queen and two single pull out couches.

The custom kitchen paneled entirely in Hemlock with cork floors and ceilings, features a vintage Chambers Range and Oven, Subzero refrigerator, Convection Oven Microwave, and opens to an outdoor dining terrace with a built in charcoal Weber plus a separate gas grill.

An upstairs lofty shingled great room with 13' ceilings and a wall of sliding glass panels features a living area, fireplace, dining area and a chic stand up bar and vintage McIntosh Stereo. Vintage mid-century furniture, art and textiles lend an air of casual elegance to this room you just don't want to leave.

A lower level additional sitting room with floor to ceiling glass and ultra HD 4K TV provides and alternative place to hang out.

So pack your bags and get ready to enjoy- two expansive decks, two additional patio areas, two living areas, 2 fireplaces, private jacuzzi, private terraced area amongst the orange and lemon and olive trees, eat in kitchen, dining area, office space with WIFi and printer, washer dryer, dishwasher, telescope, hammock, wet bar and 6 HD TV's.

Driveway and street parking, quiet residential neighborhood.

Just minutes away from famous San Diego Beaches, Yacht Club, Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Gas Lamp Downtown, Convention Center, SeaWorld, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Seaport Village, Little Italy, Old Town and many more waterside shops and restaurants.

After a fun and sun filled San Diego day make sure you make time for a relaxing hot tub jacuzzi. Then just stretch out with your family on the outdoor, comfortable lounge chair furniture and hammock while you gaze upon the gorgeous sunsets.

We know that this will be a Vacation Home you will always remember, and we look forward to hosting your group. Call now for a reservation and be sure to ask for special offers.

Thank you.

Why Susan McGonigle chose Point Loma

This 1945 classic was entirely renovated and redesigned in 2014 for Architectural Digest AD 100 architect John Ike for his personal home

What makes this house unique

The yacht inspired interiors feature floor to ceiling sliding glass walls and expansive tiered decks facing the harbor and the stepped hillside garden with 75 year old movie trees and citrus, avocado, and fix waiting to be harvested. Intimate brick dining and entertaining terraces with a fire bowl to the west afford a true California indoor outdoor life style.

Exceeded expectations in every way.

  • 5 of 5

Truly a dream house - utterly comfortable and accommodating, while also being quite spectacular, inside and out. We found ourselves challenged to leave the house for San Diego adventures, because just staying"home" felt like all one could wish for. The hot tub was a wonderful plus, and the landscaping, simply to die for. Neighborhood, views, convenience......check, check check! Thank you.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure for us to host your group. This owner is so creative that he is now in the process of completing a fully furnished high quality tent in the back yard among the olive trees! We will be getting it all online very soon and will allow more people to enjoy this house! Regards, Susan and Bruce

Better than the pictures!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of this property are good, but the real thing is even better :). Walking through the front door and seeing the view out the back for the first time is really something.

The home is very well equipped with everything you might need. It is a perfect home for 4 couples, as every bedroom has its own private bath. Plenty of room to spread out with living spaces on both levels. Two large decks, an amazing yard, and the hot tub are all great.

Great location, plenty of parking.

Amazing Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely amazing stay. The view, the amenities, the attention to detail, everything was great. It felt like home (my dream home). There was plenty of areas to gather together, as well as areas to disappear and be on your own. I love how each room had a bathroom as well. I would stay again and again! Highly recommended!

Lovely house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful house which is also extremely comfortable. Perfect for our family gathering as everyone had their own bedroom with attached bathroom, space to gather and spread out. We fully enjoyed the deck and the amazing views. Our stay was a bit short, unfortunately, so we didn't have a chance to use the front patio grilling area but the kitchen was well appointed with plenty of pots, pans, dishes, and appliances. There are a number of eating options and grocery stores within a few minutes drive (and even walking distance) and getting into the center of the city (as well as to Coronado) was extremely easy and quick.

Susan was very easy and quick to communicate with and made the booking quite easy. Bruce, who met us and showed us around the house when we arrived was very nice and helpful. Thanks to both of them.

I highly recommend this place and we're already hoping to find an opportunity to come back!

We had a great stay

  • 5 of 5

The property was beautiful from the architecture to the landscaping to the view. A small group of coworkers and I were in town for a conference, and it was perfect. There was plenty of privacy for each of us with essentially 4 different master suites. The location was within a 15 minute drive to the convention center downtown, as well as the airport, and zoo. And the deck is a seemless extension of the living space, which is perfect for gatherings.
