Toni Marshall and Jim Bennett moved from Florida to Fredericksburg in 2013 to be near Jim's family. Jim's brother, John Bennett, is a bronze sculptor and was Texas State Artist of the year in 2010. He and his wife own Agave Cottage and the Chapel B & B's on San Antonio Street. Jim's sister, Annette, is a water-color artist who also shows at Artisan's Gallery and lives in Fredericksburg. They bought the home on Morse Street because of its proximity to downtown and because it had ample out buildings to accommodate a studio for Toni, who is an award winning fiber/textile artist showing works at Artisans - A Texas Gallery on Main Street in Fredericksburg. They remodeled the main house, and one of the garages into a studio and then began the process of turning an unused workshop into the Casita and the Gypsy Bower. Toni lived in New Mexico for 12 years and fell in love with the culture, the colors, and the style of the southwest. So, as the process of building B & B's evolved, the design and style of the casita and bower were born! Furnishings were hand-picked from Toni & Jim's favorite haunts in Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Georgia. They scoured on-line auctions, Santa Fe, Etsy and Ebay and many of the accessories and furnishings were hand-painted and repurposed by Toni, herself. Artworks are from Toni and other local artisans and friends of Toni & Jim's.
Toni Marshall & Jim Bennett purchased this bungalow in 2013
There is something magical about living in the Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg is the 'Santa Fe' of Texas and is full of galleries and working artists studios and fine craftsmen. The wineries have brought so much to the area, and it is now second in wine production to Napa Valley minus the 'stuffy pretense' of California Wineries. Texas Vineyard owners are friendly, kind, and accommodating as are the shop owners and service providers. The weather is superb and the people of Fredericksburg are wonderful. It's a small Texas town with a big heart!
The great yard, the outdoor space in the back with the covered porch, the swings and the outdoor firepit & cook area. The ability to have a working studio and a great house that had good bones. We remodeled the house from the studs up and were able to design a home that was open, inviting, and just right for our lifestyle. We entertain, we love meeting people and having them stay with us. We love sharing our beloved 'Hill Country' mixed with a little southwest Mexican/Gypsy style!
From one artist to another your casita is wonderful! I told Thomas every night I felt like was coming home. We'll be back. Thanks for thinking of all the "details", we hope to meet you the next time we come!

Jim is very friendly and had fruit, cookies, water and juice ready when I arrived. I highly recommend Wild Child Casita as it is tucked in a nice neighborhood away from the craziness of the downtown crowds. The design and colors of the Casita is very warm and inviting.
There is a nice little sitting area outside the door with a bubbling water fountain.
I will be going back.
We had a wonderful time! Sorry we had to leave early. We would love to return when we can stay longer and enjoy your amazing porch!! Thank you for sharing your home.
We loved the covered patio. Very unique!!
We spent a weekend at the Casita and enjoyed every bit of it! The decorating is beautiful and every detail has been thought of, overall a very unique/cool experience. The beds are large and super comfortable, there's also a nice patio if you want to relax outside, and the owners left welcome cookies! We would definitely come back and stay again.
Also the location is great as it's close to downtown so everything is within a couple minutes drive from the Casita.
Quiet, relaxing, and full of thoughtful extras. Comfortable bed! Will be back!
My college roommate & I chose the Wildchild Casita for our weekend getaway to Fredericksburg and it was perfect for what we wanted. The owners spent a lot of time and effort decorating this gem - very colorful decor with creative details that made it very "homey" & fun. I've stayed at several VRBO properties and have never been to one with so many welcoming & thoughtful amenities. The delicious cookies, pastries, fresh fruit, juices, bottled water, oatmeal, & cereal that were provided were wonderful. The king sized bed & abundance of pillows were super comfortable. Although we didn't have a chance to use it, the outside living/cooking area is a real bonus with this property and the indoor gas fireplace is a nice touch. The location is very convenient & quiet - nestled in a neighborhood just a few blocks from Main Street. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Fredericksburg - especially for ladies on a getaway trip.
