Introducing our romantic St. John cottage, the Teahouse Treehouse. This charming and petite romantic villa on St. John is one of the best kept secrets for couples. This handsomely built, two-level St. John studio cottage is perfect for those wishing to enjoy the natural peace and solitude a Caribbean hillside. The Teahouse Treehouse cottage was handcrafted in old-world post and beam construction and was built at tree level enabling you to enjoy its astonishing Caribbean sea views. One of the best small getaways, it was cleverly situated in the corner of the estate artfully tucked into the dense trees for maximum privacy. You’ll love its simple, elegance surrounded by nature’s splendor… and it has an amazing hot tub for 2 too!
Romantic Caribbean-Japanese design
Many years ago, I lived in Japan and fell in love with the refined, yet simple rural structures made entirely of wood found throughout the mountains and countryside. It was here that I first learned how little space you really need to be really comfortable. So, we adapted this classic Japanese architectural concept Caribbean style and built an elegant wooden post and beam structure—with no nails or prefabricated construction materials of any kind. Just wait until you hear the music of the gentle night rain on the romantic St. John villa’s gracefully sloped cedar shake wooden roof while you cuddle cozily together inside. Then wake up to another magical sunrise filtering though the tress with breakfast on the front veranda and a view that will literally knock your knickers off. This romantic St. John villas rustic masterpiece is not like staying in a house, but more like living in an over sized piece of furniture. Totally handcrafted by a local artisan it is arguably one of the most unique one bedroom private St. John villas.
The Teahouse Treehouse boasts spectacular ocean views.
Framed by the trees—because you are actually up in the trees. Hummingbirds and flowers flourish everywhere at eye level. Everything here was designed to maximize the enjoyment of nature. Over sized mahogany sliding screen doors and translucent Shoji screens let light pass though by day and keep the rain out at night. The shutters also allow you to reconfigure the cottage views and ventilation on a whim. Like many country homes in Japan, the Teahouse Treehouse lets you open up nearly the entire house to your pristine Caribbean sea view or untouched native forest next door. The studio living area features native hardwood floors, a magnificent queen size teak bed—designed to be equally comfortable for daytime lounging, an antique West Indian plantation chair, cabinet for clothes and a small writing desk. Everything you could need … and less.
Romantic Cottage welcomes lovers who love nature
The Teahouse's gently curving natural stone stairway welcomes you up to its tranquil serenity. And, you'll love how the night rain drops sound on its natural cedar shake roof. Nestled deep lush hillside, it’s tucked totally out of view from anyone except Mother Nature and was built at tree-level for good reason. This romantic cottage is one of the best kept secret destinations and features unspeakably beautiful, unobstructed views of the entire Virgin Island chain including a front row seat to the pristine Hurricane Hole Virgin Island Coral Reef National Monument. It’s really like staying in front of Mount Rushmore as far as National Parks are concerned. The Teahouse Treehouse cottage features all modern amenities you might expect cleverly adapted into its very natural indoor/outdoor surroundings. For example: the outdoor under-roof teak galley kitchen faces a small bricked back yard patio lined by lovely sloping stone walls with cascading plants and flora. This back yard area offers a welcome rest from the breezes and is a perfect romantic dining area in the afternoon or under the stars at night. The living area inside of this romantic cottage on St. John seamlessly blends the inside with the outside—that’s because 75% of house can be opened up to the beauty of nature at your whim by merely sliding a screen aside. Cool.
Secluded Caribbean Cottage with a yummy hot tub for 2
Walk down the short flight of stairs past an outdoor shower and you’ll reach our garden level patio. This fully bricked area features a graceful arching tropical flower garden, barbecue grill, and a private luxury hot tub for two. Gaze at the stars and at each other all night or day on your Honeymoon Caribbean style—or just feel like you are on a honeymoon all over again. A graceful natural Traverine stone full bath features luxury European fixtures. The Teahouse Treehouse is a most special little Caribbean villa hideaway that wants to share its beauty and peaceful vibes with all of you. A sublime Caribbean villa getaway just for you or with someone you love. This may be the perfect place to start penning “that novel” you have always been meaning to write.

I built this little place to get away from it all - simple, yet elegant and romantic with everything you need ... and less. I lived in Japan for a while and always enjoyed this 'less is more' sense of design and clean architectural lines that blend the inside with the outside.
Brian: General Manager purchased this villa in 2008
Quite honestly, this area of St.John is one of the most sought after because of its peaceful tranquility ... and astonishing Caribbean down-island views.
- There are very few neighbors and the night sounds are so peaceful.
- There aren't many perfect little cottages for couples--but, this is one of them.
- Hidden in the trees for privacy with astonishing panoramic ocean views.
- Secluded and private--it just 'feels' right
- Close to all beaches, convenience stores and restaurants
The Teahouse Treehouse is everything the pictures show and more. There is nothing I would have changed and everything only exceeded expectations.
It was great getting to know our neighbors during the week as well: There was Suzy, who had to be the queen of the hermit crabs since she was the size of a softball and we found her milling about outside both upstairs and down; there was Tom and Jerry, two very curious birds who said hello every morning,; the air squadron as we called them, the half dozen or so hummingbirds that buzzed past us every day; the all Coral Bay Choir, aka the tree frogs that sung us to sleep and woke with us every morning and lastly the multiple species of lizards we would see on our way to the hot tub. That all said, if nature is not your thing, you may want to look elsewhere.
Bob who manages the property could not have been more helpful. He came to our rescue the first day when we experienced a flat tire and was available for advice, recommendations and guidance when ever we reached out to him. Whether you are familiar or new to the island Bob is great to have as a resource.
What I learned staying in the Treehouse. I have never had so little space, (though more than adequate), I have never had so little stuff (again, more than adequate) and staying in the treehouse with the love of my life I never felt like I had more.
We had such a lovely time at the Treehouse.
We rented our jeep on St Thomas with Discount Rentals. The journey to the Treehouse was eventful & exciting driving on the "wrong" side of the road.
When we finally arrived, we were a little surprised to learn there was no AC! But Bob told us what to do to get some nice breezes at night. Super accustomed to cold air, we didn't sleep very well, but who needs sleep in paradise? We bought groceries & cooked breakfast each morning. (Be sure not to leave any food - i.e. a gorgeous pineapple - on the counter in your outdoor kitchen! The birds will find it before you awake in the morning!)
The views were outstanding & all of the details of the Treehouse made it magical. It's very immersed in nature which made for even more adventure. & its equipped with everything you need. Just bring lots of bug spray.
*our favorites: snorkeling at Water Lemon, sunset sandwiches at Maho, driving out to the East end, beaches at Trunk, food at Asolare, Extra Virgin, & Miss Lucy's. Also, the Bad Kitty Boat tour of Virgin Gorda & Jose Van Dyke was well worth the money.
The Teahouse Treehouse was great. Very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful view. Unique construction. It has everything you need including Bob the caretaker/manager. Bob checks in every couple days by text to make your stay is exactly what you wanted it to be. The internet service never failed. Try it you will like it.
This place is stunning - even better than the pictures. We can still feel the night breezes, hear the noises of the forest, and see the amazing water view that greeted us when we looked out from our bed each morning. The deck is a wonderful place to have a breakfast with a gorgeous view, and the kitchen is very well equipped, with all of the appliances and utensils you might need. The gas grill made for some delicious, simple dinners as well.
The hot tub is wonderful and perfect for romantic soaks for two under the countless stars. The hammock is also a great place to relax. We settled into a slower rhythm of life during our week in the treehouse, one where we woke with the sun, took in the beauty around us, explored wonderful St. John, and relaxed with drinks, the hot tub and sunset before sleeping wonderfully.
Finally, Brian and his team were wonderful hosts and very responsive to all of our questions. Altogether, this is a perfect romantic destination; it surpasses its description.
The Teahouse Treehouse was exactly what my wife and I were looking for in a quiet, romantic island getaway. We spent one week in this paradise, and we're already wishing we were back there! One of our daily highlights was enjoying our morning coffee out on the porch, with one of the best views on the island (looking out on Hurricane Hole and the east end, with Tortola in the distance). Between the stunning views and the sounds of birds, frogs, and other wildlife, the house gives you the feeling of being one with nature, while still enjoying some creature comforts. After each day of snorkeling/kayaking/beach-going, etc., we unwound in the hot tub on the lower level. The house itself is beautifully designed and outfitted, and the property manager was extremely helpful in preparing for our visit. The rough 1/2 mile drive up Calabash Boom Rd. can be intimidating at first (be sure to rent a 4WD vehicle!), but we soon got used to it.
This was our second time on St. John and our first staying on the Coral Bay side (much more peaceful than Cruz Bay). If (when) we come back, we'll definitely stay here again. Salt Pond Bay (great beach w/snorkeling) is nearby, and the Coral Bay restaurants and markets are pretty close, too. We particularly enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling in the mangroves of Hurricane Hole (rent from Reef2Peak, based in Hansen Bay) - an otherworldly experience.
I could go on and on, but you get the idea. We absolutely love St. John, and the Teahouse Treehouse is the ideal place for a couple looking for a quiet getaway. We can't say enough positive things about our experience!
As we were sitting on our couch in the cold and freezing Stockholm in Sweden, and planning our honeymoon we stumbled across this magnificent property. Even though the price was above our requirements we still decided to book it and it was all worth it!
-The view from the room, balcony and Jacuzzi is crazy! Waking up to that view makes you wanna cry :P
-Nice and Clean house / spa
-Hummingbirds and cool lizards all around you
-You get to drive a 4WD :P!
-You sleep to the sound of tree frogs and other nocturnal insects (If you like the nature). I must say that my wife HATES insects but she loved this place!
-I didn't experience any cons but i can imagine that the sound of the insects could disturb your sleep if you re a light sleeper (especially if it rained during the day), but just put in some earplugs and you ll be fine.
We would definitly recommend it!
